We bought the car second hand with 55k miles in 2004. Have spent on the average $1500 yearly to change this or that to keep it upto snuf. Changed the alternator, radiator, the check engine light was a problem. After a self diagnosis had to change the distributor part for the engine and so on. Today it has 206k miles. My wife loves the way it drives and handles it is our go to car for grocery shopping.

Great car when it not in the shop

I really enjoy my A6 2.7T except that is has spent too much time in the shop. Problems arose at about 2.5 years and its last stay in the shop was 26 days waiting for a tourqe converter. I was given a loaner, a much lesser car. At end of lease I was well under the mileage limit so although I paid for the more expensive A6, part of the time I drove a stripped A4. The dealership and Audi have not been very responsive so no more Audis for me nor would I recommend the car or the dealer to others. They are not reliable.

Great car - if you don't mind the repair

Initially I was in love with this car from the first test drive, but 4 months and 7000 miles later I no longer own it. The car is a joy to drive and with the optional sport suspension and 18 inch rims has absolutely incredible handling. The car is extremely comfortable to drive. It had 61,000 miles on it when I bought it, and in my time with the car it needed cam seals, valve cover gaskets, temperature sensor, door lock, instrument cluster, HID ignitor, radio, power steering pump, front brake rotors. Near as I can figure about $5000 worth of work - thank God for the CPO warranty. I was able to get pretty much out of it what I paid for it because of all the repairs which were done.

Purchased the vehicle used, drove for 5 months...over $2,000 in maintenance bills! Attempted to trade in vehicle. Even the Audi dealer would only give me $4K for the trade-in. This car is a nightmare! My advice: Do not buy this vehicle, especially this engine model, unless you're loaded and can stomach the repair bills. Buyer beware!

234,000 miles and still running strong

I have an 2001 Audi A6, 2.7T 6 Speed. There are not many on the road today and it has been a long time since a review. It would be gone if it did not run so well. I bought it with 210,000 miles on it because it ran so well on these drive. I have its maintenance record and talked to the longest owner and his shop after buying it. Everything major is original. It has the original turbos, clutch, engine and transmission. They still operate like new. I have had to do normal maintenance such as struts, brakes, timing belt. The repairs - Alternator, fuel pump, passenger window regulator and split CV boots. Today they don't replace the boots they replace the entire axles assemblies but axle cost has become very reasonable.. I am amazed every time I drive it as it feels like a very low milage car. It has great acceleration and handling. The 6 speed is fun, in fact a lot more fun than the new A4 manual I drove. It does 0-6 in about 7 seconds, slow compared to an S4 at 5 seconds or less but still fast. That is the same time my 1981 Porsche did to 60 mph. I recently did a detail job on the paint and now it even looks new. The downside of this car is, if the turbos go, I have to pull the engine and then I will probably give it up and buy an S4. However, with the newer 3.0T Audis have to pull the engine to replace the timing chain so nothing new here. Audi does not seem to care about that major event for its customers. Fun car, this one was built well and well treated and if that is done they can go a lot of miles. Hoping to get close 300,000 miles. Driving a 2.7T with a manual transmission and hydraulic steering, not electric, transmits a lot of road and car feel to the driver.
