It's not quite true. the worst reliable car among VW line ups is 2007 Passat VR6 AWD which is from GERMANY. Touareg V8 is known as bad reliable car too, which is from GERMANY. GTI is not reliable car but it seems to happen to some people, not to all people who own GTI. So, if you are buying it, I strongly recommend extended warranty.

I too am interested in Winter traction...driving.
Wondering what your thoughts are regarding winter driving with the GTI. I would have snow tires mounted for the winter like I do on my 2 current vehicles(2007 Honda Ody and 1998 Honda CRV). My last VW/Audi vehicle was a 2003 VW Passat GLS Wagon and it handled very well. Any insight is appreciated.

Everyone understands that you will get better performance with higher octane gas. It is difficult to say when Volkswagen will introduce lease support on this model, or if they will at all. Volkswagen Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 GTI 2.0T 4-Door with 10,000 miles per year are .00312 and 68%, respectively. I have around $20k-25k to spend on a project car to tune and I've so far looked into (all 2007): Civic Si Coupe VW GTI 2DR Mazda SPEED3 Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on either these three models or something else within my price range? I prefer to buy a new car rather then an old one because I'd like to start from scratch basically. Thanks.

2007 GTI - Fuel Requirements
I just purchased a 2007 4 Dr GTI. Does anyone know if its ok to use 87 AKI fuel (which I think is regular). The owners manual says use nothing less than 87 AKI but the recommendation is premium. The service dept and VW "recommend" premium but what are the consequences of using something other than premium?

Just an FYI for everyone - I bought a 2007 4 door GTI reflex silver, DSG, pkg 2, Hufs from Rusty Wallace VW in Dallas for invoice + $250 (to cover various dealer "fees" - advertising, floor plan, etc). Everything was done through the internet dept and very painless. Love the car so far. Best of luck!

Just got our GTI
We picked up a 2007 GTI w/DSG & package #1 in Candy White OTD price including california tax & tags ($2300) was $25800, I also got 3 years of all my scheduled service included. So far the car is great. For any one in southern california, we shopped between Bozzani in Covina and Pasadena Volkswagen and ended up choosing Pasadena because they upped the deal with the service package.

Faster, Do you know the preferred engine type in Europe? It's not the 2.0T or a traditional 2.0 even. It's diesel. 1 Hondas have higher insurance rates than VW. I own a GTI and the insurance rate is not higher than for a regular Accord. That's probably because you have a lot more safety features in the VW. 2 Gas mileage is WAY better than the 4 cylinder Accord which gives EPA ratings of 23(city) and 34(highway) but gets way under (18-19 city). 3 Turbo engines need synthetic oil for best performance ... RE; 2007 GTI MP3 player connection
I have a 2006 GTI with the (Ipod) MP3 connector. It's a 1/8-inch (headphone) cable which begins in the glove box. It's long enough to reach the steering wheel and thin enough that you can easily close the glove box with the cable protruding. Set the source to CD/AUX to use. Once you get the Ipod player output level just right, it sounds as good as the VW CD player......

Agreed on all points. It'll take YEARS of proven reliability before I'll buy a VW. It'll be measured one day at a time. OTOH, I've been reading about (apparently) quite a few problems with the new 2007 Toyota Camry. It's always hard to judge whether it's a few people making a lot of noise, or actually a large problem, but it's still strange to have that much complaining.

I do not know if VW offers the GTI with different suspension configurations. The Audi A3 2.0 T can be had regular or sport suspension, but the A3 3.2 AWD comes only in sport configuration. Sport config gives you very flat cornering and a very taut ride. Also, the Audis, for 2007, can be had with 19" wheels and ultra-low profile tires. I believe we have been talking about the new 2.0T FSI engine on the mkV GTI's... For a four cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque are performance numbers.
