I was hoping to get some help. I currently have a 2007 Jetta that I will be turning in the lease and looking at the 2011 GTI 2dr w/ Sunroof.. I am talking numbers this Friday with my guy and hoping to come in knowing what the GTIs are going for. The one I test drove was MSRP $26,210 I believe. I just bought a Certified 2007 GTI. The dealer kept stressing that the VW warranty wouldn't cover any of the failures listed in the warranty if it was decided they were caused by normal wear and tear rather than by defect. Does this mean that VW is going to disallow any warranty claim as being wear and tear, or was this a scare tactic to get me to buy an extended ... Read More
My GTI was pretty much problem free in my 2 years of ownership. I would recommend one. ;) My 2007 had 1 minor recall. Did we own the same car? The 3.8L Genesis gets 18 MPG in the city, the worst I recall for my GTI was 22 MPG. I know VW addressed many of the niggling concerns for the 2010 model year and I would love to own one once ... Having owned a 2 dr GTI from 2006 to 2009, I decided to look at some other options for my next lease and very happy I did. Repair costs are much higher on a VW. Much. Very different cars. Call your insurance and ask about the rate hike you'll see going to a GTI too.
It's not quite true. the worst reliable car among VW line ups is 2007 Passat VR6 AWD which is from GERMANY. Touareg V8 is known as bad reliable car too, which is from GERMANY. GTI is not reliable car but it seems to happen to some people, not to all people who own GTI. So, if you are buying it, I strongly recommend extended warranty.
What VW/Audi will try to tell you is that the 2.0T will achieve less mileage on regualr gas which makes sense to me. However, it isn't true. I run my GTI on regular with spirited highway/city driving and achieve 24-25 mpg which is the same if I use even the best high-test, such as shell V-power. Not sure if this was already posted or not, but looks like Autombile magazine has named the 2007 VW GTI its "car of the year" MSNBC link
I'm torn between these two sharp-looking vehicles...I am considering a 2007 A3 S-Line with the 3.2 DSG since I typically prefer a normally-aspirated engine and the new Volkswagen GTI also with the DSG transmission. What do the experts feel are the long-term prospects for the turbocharged powerplant? Will it last given the speeds at which turbo components spin? Is it perhaps worth the extra investment to obtain the A3 with Quattro ... Read More
In the 2006 Sport Compact Comparison Test, The Civic Si posted a 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds. In the Civic Si vs. the VW GTI, the Civic posted a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds. Now that's quite a difference. Regardless of any of these comparison tests, I'm planning to buy a 2007 Honda Civic Si 4-door with Navigation. Although it may not be the fastest or quickest, speed isn't everything. The ... I have a 2006 GTI with the (Ipod) MP3 connector. It's a 1/8-inch (headphone) cable which begins in the glove box. It's long enough to reach the steering wheel and thin enough that you can easily close the glove box with the cable protruding. Set the source to CD/AUX to use. Once you get the Ipod player output level just right, it sounds as good as the VW CD player......
Hello Car_man (i will soon make that gti jump....honest) Here is what i was offered by the VW dealership in Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. This was for a 2007 GTI Auto 2Dr United Grey with Package 2. We didnt discuss MSRP but was told invoice price including destination was $25236(which she didnt agree to sell to but felt that i would be able to). Edmunds says MSRP on this is 26965 ... Read More
Car_man, thanks for all the help you provide on this forum. Here is my situation - I'm looking to lease a 2007 GTI 2.0T, w/Package 0 - no options. I don't drive much, so I'm only looking at a 24 month, 10K a year lease. MSRP on the vehicle is $22,730. I'm sure I can get them down to $21K or better. What is the money factor and residual for this ... Read More
Hi DC. Volkswagen is not currently providing any lease support on the 2006 GTI. If I was in the market for one I personally would either lease a 2006 model or wait until Volkswagen inevitably introduces lease support on the 2007 model. Having said this, $800 over dealer invoice is a reasonable price for this car. This doesn't look like a true $800 over dealer invoice though because the dealer is ... Read More
Agreed on all points. It'll take YEARS of proven reliability before I'll buy a VW. It'll be measured one day at a time. OTOH, I've been reading about (apparently) quite a few problems with the new 2007 Toyota Camry. It's always hard to judge whether it's a few people making a lot of noise, or actually a large problem, but it's still strange to have that much complaining.
Sir, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy a newly released '07 model VW GTI. In Scottsdale, Arizona they have recieved a couple in their dealerships, and I got dealer offer for a '07 that is expected with their next shipment. (within a week.) exactly the specs I want. This is the first offer he gave me and said he couldn't go lower. Should I still try ... Read More
I do not know if VW offers the GTI with different suspension configurations. The Audi A3 2.0 T can be had regular or sport suspension, but the A3 3.2 AWD comes only in sport configuration. Sport config gives you very flat cornering and a very taut ride. Also, the Audis, for 2007, can be had with 19" wheels and ultra-low profile tires. With these street-creeders, bad roads won't be your friends. ... Read More
Hi- I'm new to this forum, and have a question regarding the care and maintenance of turbos. I will be purchasing a 2006 or 2007 VW GTI, and I'd like to know what I should do as good preventative maintenance to ensure that the turbo is well taken care of. I have heard that I should let the engine continue to run for 1 minute after stopping the car, or that ... Read More
I believe we have been talking about the new 2.0T FSI engine on the mkV GTI's... For a four cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque are performance numbers. There aren't that many cars running four bangers that can hustle to 60 in 6.7 seconds (ok, so the srt4, evo, and sti are freaks). Sure there are lots of v6 and v8 engines with more hp ... Read More
July 29th is the day to look forward to. I, myself, am holding out for the 5-door. Hopefully, VW will make it a 2007 model and have launch control. :)
Exchange rates have historically been very poor indicators of sales prices in the US. You may want to look at the GLI built to your liking and (optimistically) subtract $1000 -$1500 or so. The 2-door GTI should arrive in Spring, with the 4-door following in the summer. It takes VW typically quite a while (2 or more years) to make all engine, color, and interior variation (that are final) available. I ... Read More
Len Hunt has personally promised that the 4-door MarkV GTI will become available in the US. That may take a few months, though. The 2.0TFSI engine may also become available in the regular 4-door Golf, in analogy with the Jetta - depending on sales. I know for sure there are quite a number of people who will look elsewhere if the 4-door does not make it soon, so they (VW and ... Read More
