I have an automatic 1994 Civic EX with the 1.6 liter. I got 32 mpg average during combined highway and city driving last summer. With the AC on, it drops down to about 27 or 26 and these are the figures I typically get in the winter (you can't drive it without AC and heat in the winter or it fogs up). Note that this is the "sport" vtec engine for ... Read More
Did A search online found this: It seems that VW did such a great job of insulating the terminals on 1994-95 Golfs and Jettas (Bosch reman alternators AL0185X, AL0186X, AL0181X, AL0184X) that they inadvertently created some low/dead battery problems on these cars. In some cases, the eyelet connector of the wiring harness, which connects to the B+ stud of the alternator, had just enough extra insulation applied to it to keep ... Read More
Hi my 1994 Golf 3 has a problem that the battery goes flat after about 4 days if the car is not driven. Its had a new battery and alternator and after a bit of work with an ammeter I discovered that with the car parked and everything switched off 32 mA is being drawn somewhere. I checked all the circuits which are protected by fuses and apart from the radio ... Read More

I have owned both. I bought a new 1992 VW Golf GLS back in '92. I will never own one again. I had more problems with that damn car by 1994 than I care to mention. I have owned four Honda products in my 33 years of life ('85 Prelude, '87 Integra, '92 Prelude and a '97 Civic) and all have run like champs with only minor problems. VW seems to ... Read More
Hello, I am from Taiwan, and will go to study in States next month. I found carmarkets are very different between countries and I'd like to share you what's different here. Maybe it won't be help for you in buying a car in U.S, but you may find something interesting. A Golf 2.0 GLS here is about 30,000 US. dollars because of high import tax. But everyone who ownes a VW ... Read More
I sorta agree with you I guess....I guess I'm one of those lucky ones whom hasn't had many problems with his VW's. My 87 Scriocco was the best. Very reliable and very fun to drive. Went to basic training and had to let her go. What a cruel world. My next car when I retuned home was a 1994 silver Golf GL that was later modified slightly. I did have problems ... Read More
Hey Volksnut , congratulations on your recent purchase of the Golf. I know that you'll be able to enjoy it for a long time. Before my last purchase of my Y2K Golf TDI, I had a 1994 Golf GL that basically had the same 2.0 engine as yours. Knowing what I do now about aftermarket VW Tuning, I wish that I had kept the car. Before I got rid of it ... Read More
