I answered this already in "problems and solutions." Access is behind the glove compartment, at least in 2002-06 Camry sedans. See your owner's manual.

It's behind the glove compartment in the 2002-06 Camry sedan. I assume it'll be in the same place in the 2000 Solara. See you owner's manual for how to get to it. It is an easy procedure.

I must admit I haven't read earlier threads re: the Solara BUT looking at this one gives me flashbacks of the reason i traded my beautiful red 1999 Solara so soon (2003 I purchased a camry). I had to replace all 4 tires on my Solara at 30,000 miles because of the unusual wear on the tread. I had my tires rotated a couple of times before that and each time ... Read More

  • Is this a problem with ALL V6 Toyotas?

Written by: coastdriver on Feb 24, 2005 12:31:18 AM

Do other Toyota models (with the V6 engine) have the same transmission/hesitation problem as the SE Camry? Highlander? Sienna? Solara? Tacoma truck? WHY WAS THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM NEVER MENTIONED BY ALL THE AUTO MAGAZINE WRITERS? HOW COULD THEY NOT FEEL IT?! I am already thinking about trading my '05 Camry. Or maybe I will wait, and see if Toyota can get this defect fixed in the '07 model. And I think ... Read More

  • Engine Sludge

    Written by: scoti1 on May 11, 2004 9:11:29 AM

Unfortunately, the engines are still sludging, just haven't read about it a lot on Edmunds. It is the 1997 - 2002 models covered under the sludge policy, but I have read reports of a couple 2003's recently. Can't recall which Toyota model, tho, as this covers the Camry, Avalon, Solara, Sienna, Highlander, Celica and the Lexus RX300/ES300

Toyota has a program in Canada (Access Toyota) like Saturn does - they tell you what to pay and you accept it, or you don't get it. What do you mean all related to year 2000 model? Some recall is for 1997, some for 1998, 199,2000, 2001 and 2002. Also only 3 recalls I can identified associated with Solara and some are with Camry/Avalon. I can't confirm does all the problem associate with Camry only or cross all the models. We need to be carefully verify these issues. Or it will be like link one most troublesome model ... Read More

About 3 percent of Toyotas engines in Camry, Solara, Lexus RS300, Sienna and a few other models had a problem with sludge when following the maintenance outlined in the manual, so stick to the 3,000 mile oil change, although, Toyota motor Corp should have notified you of their Special Policy Adjustment, 8 years from date of purchase, unlimited milage if the owner can show "reasonable" maintenance. The SPA covered the model ... Read More

The Camry sedan alone is #1 in sales over both the Accord sedan and coupe. Camry was 2002's top selling car, but I don't recall the difference in sales between it and the Accord. I think the Solara's sales would just add to the Camry's lead over the Accord.

The 2002 Camry LE is a 4 banger, no?W/O the frills of the older design Solara, like stra-foam in every crevice. Cigarette lighter and ashtry, please! Who uses the ashtry anyway. I am constantly dodging flying lit cigarettes, especially at rush hour!?! Ash tray is probably one of those parts Toyota cut back on, to make the car with half of the number of parts as their previous, better rated models. ... Read More

Today, I called my local Toyota dealer's customer relations manager and got a copy of a letter sent from Toyota to its dealers in Apr. 02, stating they have enhanced the terms of their SPA. Per the letter: "Effective immediately, Toyota announces a Customer Support Program which will cover the cost of repairs on 5S-FE amd 1MZ-FE engines necessary due to oil gelling for 8 years, unlimited miles. The word is that the 2003 Solara will be the same as the 2002. Toyota supposedly has a five-year product lifecycle. It has been said that the 2004 Solara will be all new and will be released mid-year 2003. Unless things have changed since I heard this info, you will have to wait at least a year-and-a-half for a redesigned Solara. I just bought one, and it has improvements that are ... Read More

If the new Solara has the same interior as the 2002 Camry, than I'd definately wait! I took a look at the new Camry the other day. Wow! The leather seats seem to provide much more support and are firmer, plus you don't slide off them! The radio looks much more sleek, not bulky like my current Solara. I just replied,"What is covered under the Bumper to Bumper Warrenty? Everything that breaks in this car is never under warrenty!" The new, 2002 Camry will receive a larger 4 cyl engine this fall (2.4L). I'm assuming it is the same base engine as that in the Highlander. Having driven the current 4 cyl Solara, the extra 20 hp would be a very welcomed addition since the curremt Solara 4 cyl is underpowered. Remember that the Solara is heavier than the Camry. I read something from Toyota awhile ago (I forget where) that stated the 2002 Solara was slated for some mild styling changes (probably to coincide with the intro of the new Camry). Any wild guesses about what this might entail? Also - does anyone regret getting the manual transmission - especially with V6?
