Good job on applying pressure on Suzuki to get serious about this problem. They should have done a recall when it became apparent back in late 2005 that significant numbers of the new generation Grand Vitara had this problem. I'd be willing to bet that a few accidents resulted from this.
No, I'm in telecommunications. The cars I did own: 1973 Dodge Dart from 1980 to 1981 (very good for a first car) 1981 Pontiac Phoenix :worst car ever, sold it after 4 months, everything broke 1982 Ford Escort from 1982 to 1989: Not bad, good for a student, was reliable 1989 Suzuki Sidekick from 1989 to 1997: Fun 4x4, reliable 1989 Dodge Lancer (wife) from 1993 to 1996: Was ok for ... Spied: Suzuki Gets Aggressive It's a tall order By Paul Horrell "Suzuki plans to triple North American annual sales from 80,000 to 250,000 in five years. That's a tall order because it means biting into Hyundai's and Kia's growth. But the company plans to roll out a fleet of imaginative new vehicles to help it succeed, according to Hirotake Ono, board member in charge of U.S. and European marketing. First up ... Read More
I also have a harmonic drive line vibration on my new 2006 gv premium auto at 55 - 70+ mph. My gv is only 2 months old but was built sep. 2005. It has been in twice now with no results. The rear drive shaft has been replaced. It apparently has the upgrades on the front and rear differentials so the dealer is stumped for now. They are working with suzuki ... Read More
Suzuki’s Grand Vitara has been awarded a major consumer award in the United States, beating 20 other compact Sport Utility Vehicle models. The 2007 Grand Vitara was named top model in the prestigious North American Consumers Guide Automotive Best Buy award for Compact Sport Utility Vehicles. This second generation Grand Vitara, out-paced a class field of four-wheel-drive SUV models, including the BMW X3, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Wrangler, ... Read More
This is in response to pciro2180: The Grand Vitara only has 184 HP. With the family and luggage in the car, and with the trailer in tow, it puts quite a strain on the engine. You posted, "What were you thinking pulling a trailer for 40 miles at 6500 RPM, redlining the car up a steep grade????" The Grand Vitara has an automatic transmission. I CAN"T force it to up-shift into ... Read More
The bottom line here as I said is for me to depend on my vehicle to get from point A to B. I've been left stranded by stupid things going wrong in the past with the carmaker badge I've depended on in the past. 300 miles from home driving a 1994 f-150 the power steering gearbox seal blew out on a holiday weekend, 60 some thousand miles on the truck- and ... Excellent points all. Sorry I just missed your post before my last one. Ditto re carcost. The rattle is a heat shield. A genetic thing. Most Zukes seem to go thru a period of teething post delivery, then settle down to provide a long reliable service life. Every choice is a compromise. Automatics have gotten better and better, even yielding slightly better mileage figures. Why I could almost see myself in ... Read More
great review of the GV =================== As good as a BMW X3 but $20k cheaper? Part 1-The exterior 9/7/2005 I must tell you, when I got the invitation to Vancouver for the press launch of the 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara, my expectations about the new SUV weren't the highest. In fact to be truthful, I went there thinking I was about to drive the lamest vehicle in a long time. But ... Read More
To bonehead1 about friend's car squeak, Is your friend's car actually making a squealing noise intermittently? My 2000 Grand Vitara started doing that in March 2005. After 2 months it started getting worse. I finally figured out the noise was happening when something stopped spinning off the serpentine belt. Goodyear thought it was the serpentine, changed it and the noise got worse. It was the air compressor trying to freeze up. ... Read More
There's also this GV link too over in Future Models: rsholland, "2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara" #1, 16 May 2005 10:24 am Bob
I wonder if this qualifies for the longest title around here? Sorry Tribute fans, you'll have to tag along with the Escape owners for the time being; six is the software limit. For GV talk only, there's the Suzuki Grand Vitara discussion, complete with a recent hybrid rumor link: steve_, "Suzuki Grand Vitara" #435, 6 Sep 2005 11:38 pm Steve, Host
It's OK the lights are supposed to be on during the day. There's a "dusk" sensor that behaves a bit oddly. During the day, with the engine running but in neutral, like waiting at level crossings (there's a lot of those around here) the lights automatically go off, but turn back on when the car is in gear. Apparently there is a parcel shelf for the cargo area for when the ... Read More
you should probably wait for the Equinox to come out instead of buying the Tracker..surprising, the 2003 Tracker didn't receive the new interior that the Suzuki Grand Vitara and XL-7 got..hmm the Equinox will probably be a better overall value than the rapidly-aging Tracker, or you could wait the the Suzuki-version of the Equinox which comes out in 2005 as a 2006 model...it has a better warranty and, as rumor has ... I have been reading in my magazines (Autoweek, Car and Driver, etc) about the future plans for Suzuki and several have said a new SUV will be coming out in 06 or 07 that will replace the XL-7. I think several members of the board have mentioned it. Anyone hear anything new? I would hope they would get rid of the smaller Grand Vitara and leave the XL-7 as their part ... Read More
