I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette Premier. The trasnmission has started to shift hard and is also throwing a torque converter code as well as a "maximum line shift" code when a diagnostic is run. From what I have gathered on here it may be the pressure control solenoid. Is this the most likely culprit or will I have to address the torque converter also? Also the van will at times ... I installed a 2000 Venture engine in my 1998 Venture. I had to strip the new engine down to the block and heads and reuse most of the original parts such as exhaust manifold, intake manifold w/fuel injection system, all sensors and engine mounts. The vehicles below use the LA1 engine that are probably interchangeable with some exceptions. In the case of the transmission, the same transmission was used in the ... Read More
Be sure it is serviced full with coolant. There are two bleeders on the engine that need to be opened during servicing. Also you could have installed a defective thermostat.
Sorry man, I never did find out what the problem was and ended up selling it. Good luck
I have exactly the same problem. Did anybody ever determine the cause and get it working again?
Having the same problem - had head gasket & new Thermostat. how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.
I have a 2000 Silhouette that the heat went out on and it also started getting coolant in the oil. I figured it had a stuck thermostat and the head gasket was leaking. I went and bought a new Thermostat, Bars Leak Head Gasket repair, and some coolant. I removed the old thermostat and put the housing back on, then I completely flushed the engine, heater core, and radiator. I went ... Read More
I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette with 255000 miles on it. Recently, the Check Engine Light came on, then off. I have it check anyway. The Code Reader shows Trouble Code P072 - Torque Converter Circuit Stuck On. Can anybody tell me what it is? And what need to be done to fix it? Thanks. ">
I have a 2000 Silhouette with the optional REAR AC unit that seems to have quit working - blows hot air. I was told from an Oldsmobile dealer that there is a "block in the H Block". Just wondering if anyone can shed some additional light on this, and what kind of fix I can perform in an attempt to resolve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you did your research and found a nice ride! I like the Olds, it seems to handle better than the other of the triplets and has a lot of neat features. The bonus is that like you, I got a used one and you get a lot of vehicle for your money. Funny you mentioned Oldsmobile is your choice of car, I just bought a 2000 Intrigue from a ... Read More
I read virtually EVERY post in this forum as I was looking for a near-excellent condition Silhouette for my dog! I sold Oldsmobiles for 14 years and as a member of the Oldsmobile Club of America, it is the only make and model I would ever buy. After studying the posts and revisiting my experiences with selling Silhouettes, I decided on the GL version with the right side sliding door. I ... Read More

My 2000 Silhouette, has just 38925 miles today… I had been thinking that I had make a good decision of buying this vehicle, until two weeks ago, low coolant level lights was on. Checked it out, low in coolant, added ¼ gallon coolant; two days later the lights came on again, added another ¼ of coolant; two days later the lights was on third time. There was no outside leaking sign, ... Read More
We have started having problems with the A/C. We live in Florida and use it frequently. The fan doe not seem to blow consistently with the same force. Sometimes on the 5 setting, it will blow you out of your seat and other times it has to be set on 5 to feel any air at all. Not a consistent problem, very sporadic. Needless, to say, mechanics cannot find anything wrong ... Read More
My 2000 Olds silhouette has a engine knock when it first starts until it warms up. I have taken it in to the dealer and they said it was normal for this engine, due to the some of the engine parts was built by two different manufacturer. It sound like to me that this is a engine defect and should be cover under the bumper to bumper coverage. I am now ... Read More
I had the same problem with the general tires also. I starting having problems at 6700 mileson my 2000 Olds silhouette GLS. I did all I could do up to the BBB auto line and still had to replace them myself. I am still writting to Oldsmobile but never got an answer back. I wasn't able to find anyone to take responibility for the tires, both General and Olds kept sending ... Read More
Just purchased a 2001 GLS and love it. Traded in a 1997 Chevy Venture and was going to get another one, but after comparing the two, the GLS was much nicer than the Venture LT package. Kids are older now so got the second row buckets vs. bench I had before, but opted for third row bench vs. buckets in order to get the fold down seat and compartment found behind ... Read More
I have been looking at 2001 Silhouette GLS and Premier vans in black with chrome wheels and two-tone leather and they look really nice for a minivan. Previously I had a 1997 Grand Voyager that was my first van and it was a great first experiance. Then, back in October 2000 I traded that van in for a 2000 Chrysler 300M. It used to be nice but now it creaks, squeaks, ... Read More
I purchased a silhouette 2001 last December 2000. While dealing with the sales person, I asked about this protection plan that GM is offering. The sales person thought that I was crazy. Suddenly, GM is offering this plan to all 2000, 2001 and 2002 Oldsmobile. Does anybody know if my Silhouette is cover by this plan? I called the dealership to find out and could not answered my question. By the ... Read More
OK, you ask for feedback, here it is: #1. Since when is backing into poles not "unusual". I would suggest learning how to drive first... #2. If you do wreck your vehicle, I would hope that your insurance would pay for the repair as opposed to having that money come out of your pocket (I would hope). Given that, how much would it cost to insure each vehicle in the stat ... Read More
