I drive a 2002 SE 5 speed Xterra. LOVE IT!!! I just turned 90,000. No issues until last year. I have started to hear rattling, squeals and "metal screeching" from the engine. Cold mornings make it a definate action. At first notice I mentioned to my mechanic who started diagnosising belts...replaced all, then pulleys...replaced all, distributor rod (not replaced due to cost), and then the SuperCharger was mentioned. There was a ... Read More

My Nissan Xterra stalls while driving. You can only restart it by jump starting it. So I had the battery tested and it was bad. Now with the new battery it starts and still stalls after driving approximately 10 minutes. It won't start again unless you let it sit for awhile. Then it the problem repeats itself.

Written by: scottl on Mar 23, 2005 12:00:14 PM

I think Nissan wanted to separate the Xterra a little more from the Pathfinder. Sounds like you fell on the Pathfinder side of the divide, except for no 6-speed at all on the Pathfinder. Personally, I think the Xterra rocks in almost every way except looks. I like the steering wheel controls, the carpetless back, and I'm only 5'9", so I have no headroom problems. Add to that the locker, the ... Read More

I've loved driving my 2002 Xterra SC for the last three years (and had another before that). Sure it eats a little gas, but all round performance and versatility is top grade. (lacking in power? Try the SC five speed... that'll change your mind) So I was pretty excited about upgrading this year to the 2005 and went for a couple of test rides. Now I'm really bummed. PROS: Nice power ... • Rust Issues??

Written by: kmiller on Apr 16, 2004 8:06:23 AM

I own a 2002 white Nissan Xterra. Have any of you experienced rust spots developing on the vehicle, particularly the back hatch? I currently have 50K miles on it, so I'm out of the standard warranty, however, I don't think a vehicle only 2 years old should be rusting. Please let me know if any one else has experienced this problem.

I own a 2002 Nissan Xterra. I currently have a case against Nissan with the Better Business Bureau. My truck has been falling apart since it had 7011 miles on it.I don't qualify for the "lemon laws" in my state because it has been many separate issues, not a reoccuring problem with one part. At 7011 miles, I had to be towed off the interstate-transfer case had to be rebuilt. Since ... Read More

Follow up to my post #2290, 21 Feb 2003. My 2002 Xterra still sits awaiting another engine. After numerous calls to Nissan in Calif. over the last month I got no place, it was almost as if the Cust. Rep. used a recording? Weekly calls and visits to the dealer were sympathetic and reassuring at best, but no real answers other than to be patient and Nissan would make good. Incidentally ... Read More

I have been attempting to sell my 2002 Nissan Xterra XE-V6 4x4 with just under 10k miles. Blue Book, Black Book, and NADA all show the private party values in the $19,500-$20,500 range. I have it listed at $18,500 and have seen plenty of interest, but no takers in three months. Just now I punched up Edmund's TMV and came to just over $16k! Is TMV accurate? Am I asking too ... I've got a 2002 Xterra 2-wheel drive with about 9,000 miles. It has developed a whine-like noise in the rear that has gotten louder. Dealer claims that all 2002 Xterra's develop this around 10,000 miles, that they have called Nissan and they do not have a fix for it. Refuses to change out differential under warranty.
