2001 Mitsubishi Galant automatic... Vacuum pump connects to a part on throttle body...this part is bronze color and round like diapharm with 4 screws ...its just besides throttle position sensor... can someone have diagram showing this connection? or just tell me the name of this part where this vacuum pump connects to?
My 2001 Galant did that for at least 5 years. I never did anything about it and nothing ever happened. Mechanic said to ignore it if it goes out and doesn't stay on constantly while driving. So I did. I got rid of the car 6 months ago for other reasons. Love my new Honda. Would never buy another Mitsubishi.
My guess is that the fluid had not been changed for a while, or a different AT fluid than what Mitsubishi specified was used. Similar thing happened to me at around 110K on my Galant (a 2001 with 160K and still going strong :-) ). At around 60 mph I heard a "whoosh" from under the hood and the car slowed down; the "check engine" light came on. I took it ... Read More
This problem happened to me as well on my black 2001 galant... my wife was skeptical until I told her I'd prove it... on a random drive to the mall, we cruzed around the parking lot and i swore to her we'd find another black galant with the same problem... she laughed at me but sure enough after 3 minuets we spotted a 2002 black galant with major clear coat cracking ... That's a sad situation with you're Galant. But Galants are very reliable indeed. Things go wrong and some mechanics make the situation worst. Some dealers customer service makes you wish to never go back there. That is the case with a lady friend of mine and her 2001 Nissan Sentra. The car was great till something triggered the Check Engine light. She took it to a Nissan dealer and they kept ... Read More
Mitsubishi car's are reliable. Just like any other manufacturer it had his "not so good" models. But they have improve the quality noticeably. Galant's previous 1997 were known of body integrity issues. 1998+ Galant's didn't encounter such issues, except for black colored 98-03 Galants. I have a 98 Mirage DE with 123k, 03 Lancer ES, 78k, 2 friends of mine have '00 Galant ES, 107k and '04 Galant DE, my stepfather ... Read More
Please take a look at my post #2150. Although I don't believe it would be useful, since it's for a 2001 Galant. I think the model changed in 1999. But at least you'll see the tool-free for Mitsubishi, maybe they can help for a reasonable price. I hope that u have the code though, otherwise I've heard it's not cheap to go to the dealer for this issue. Good Luck!
I have 2000 Galant and lifters are making noise form 6 month. I have tried all oil change options but no use. These lifters are auto adjustable, so need to replace them. Let me know what you found out.
Hi everybody, I just bought a repo 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES V6 (clean title and history) with 93,500K. Besides the normal wear and tear for a car driven so extensively, I have the SRS lights on and I need the anti theft code for the radio and CD. I was wondering if both problems occured when the battery surged. Did anybody else have the same problem? I would appreciate any answer ... Read More
Also, a good synthetic oil will quiet those lifters down a bit as well. :)
Your engine has hydraulic lifters that automatically adjust. Try using a thicker weight of oil and make sure you are changing the oil every 3k. This should help lessen or stop the noise. You might also want to consider adding some Lucas oil stabilizer. This product has worked wonders on tired noisy engines. A noisy lifter is not going to trash your engine though so I would think twice before spending ... Read More
I recently took my 2001 galant into the shop due to a ticking noise that has been going on for a while now. Assuming maybe I just needed some different oil or something.. they told me that the lifters may need to be adjusted.. that is IF they are adjustable lifters. So the question is "does anyone know if the lifters in the 4 cylinder 2001 mitsubishi galant are adjustable?" If ... Read More
"Kelly Blue Book has a trade-in value of $9,390 if it were here in Oregon." Here is Southern California most dealers will start negotiations $2,000.00 back of book. Hi, I too was looking at a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES that's loaded with the works. Its done 80K miles. It runs pretty good and I got it checked at meineke's and the mechanic said he couldnt spot any problems with it. But still my friends (and the mechanic) insist that I should not buy it as they say that Mitsubishis dont run past 100K miles. If i buy this one, ... Read More
Well, if you scroll back two or five pages , you should see a post where someone's 99 was at almost 200K. My 99 LS V6 is at 101K right now and has easily been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Not perfect, but everything still works and repairs have been minimal. I still get 23-24MPG in city/mixed driving and 26+ on straight highway. I live in Chicagoland so the ... Read More

I have a 2001 Galant and just got out of warranty. I'm considering buying an extended warranty, but would like to know your opinion if it's worthy! The car has been problem free except the normal 'wear and tear' and a few bugs that have been fixed by the dealership!
i just test drove a 2001 mitsubishi galant with 43K miles and it drove very smooth, this is the first time that i have ever driven one and i was just wondering for those of you who have owned one how they held up, and what you think of the cars.
I think all this talk about Mitsubishi sales being low enough for them to go belly-up are a bit exaggerated. Yes, they aren't selling as well as they did back in 2001. But they are still selling plenty of cars to stay in business. For example, the highly regarded VW Passat has only sold 9893 units in the first 3 months of 2004 whereas 14,528 Galants have been sold. Mazda sold ... Read More
Resale values if purchased at same time and driven same amount. Invoice price is using 2003 models, as 2002 data is no longer posted on Edmunds. If The 2003 invoice on the Galant doesn't look appreciably different than it did last year, perhaps $200 higher. I looked at LX model Proteges last year as well, and those invoices are also only up by about $100 or $200 for 2003. Both cars ... Read More
My Galant has had many problems over the two years I owned it. The brakes were the only one that was directly related to safety or performance (the low MPG was caused by brake friction). The car also had many rattles, had problems with the driver's door skin separating from the impact beam (repaired twice under waranty and very loud when broken) and the dashboard moved visibly when pushed. Four dealers ... Read More
Well after constant brake problems, rattles and now a busted axle halfshaft (pothole), I have gotten rid of my 2002 Galant ES. At 38,700 miles the car, no longer under warranty, felt looser than my wife's 2001 Saturn L200 which has 50,000, or the Nissan Sentra I traded to buy the Galant two-years-ago, which at the time at 84,000. As predicted, resale value was horrid, and I was only able to ... Read More
I have seen pictures of the new 2004 Galant and in IMHO I think the outgoing 2003 model is better looking. The interior appears to be a bit funkier as well - not as evenly executed as the Camry/Accord. I will reserve judgement until I see it up close. For those of you complaining about Galant fuel economy - are you talking 4 cyl or 6 cyl? The rental I had ... Read More
I just got the latest Automobile Magazine...and I have got to say that I like the Galant. Rather it has a truck engine OR not! I really like the styling of the model in this particular magazine. Does this price seem typical for a 2001 Galant used? Those of you that have experience with the 2001 Galant, have you had any major problems? If so, what kind? 2001 MITSUBISHI GALANT, auto, pwr., 55K, green w/gray int., tint, $5900,
Mitsubishi is at its best when releasing a new model after it has had a few years to study the competition. The redesigned 97 Mirage had all of the good stuff the much improved 93-97 Corolla contained, at a much lover price. Much like the somewhat decontented 97-2001 Camry, it seemed to me that the current Galant was not as much of an improvement from the mid-90s Galant. I look forward ... Read More
This is more of a prey for reassurance than anything. I’m a college student who has been driving around an ’89 Jeep Cherokee for way too long, thus, with support from my uncle I decided to purchase a new(ish) car. We were looking to spend about 15-16k (vehicle cost, not total) and I wanted something not terribly generic or untrustworthy, such as a Hyundai or a Saturn, thus I started looking ... Read More
i have a silver ES-V6 with 28,000 miles on it. I'm still disgusted with my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES (15,400 miles). Problem after problem after problem. I may sound like a broken record but I have learned my lesson to never buy anything with the Mitsubishi name again. It's just ridiculous to have ... Read More

I bought an 02 GTZ in October. Took advantage of the 0-0-0 because I plan to pay it off in 11 months, so it's free money. Its a very peppy car. I went from an 1996 Eclipse to a 2001 GTZ and I must say the Add peppy is appreciated. I enjoy this 4door car very much. The 4 wheel disc brakes makes no difference brake maintainability in the 99-2001 Galants - they are still highly problematic and weak.
