The fix for my 1999 infiniti i30 with the same problem was the knock sensor. I was told and read the about MAF sensor, but this was not the problem, and be aware of just repairing a lot of items that will more than likely not be the fix(dealerships and mechanics are known for this) This fix helped with problem of the car stalling out.

its a common problem with the i30. Its actually the MAF sensor(Mass Air Flow sensor), which is located right after the air filter. It looks like a 8 inch wide cylinder. It can cause your car to [1: make a pinging noise when your at about 2500 rpm. 2: feel sluggish 3: shutting down your car while idling (this is when the sensor is just dirty as hell and read the ... It started cutting out a few days ago (just while driving) Now its even doing it while it sits and idols. The check engine light is on and its got a heavy vibration and misen while in drive,1,2 but purrs like a kitten in park or neutral (can't even hear it running). I ... Read More

Get your spark plugs changed, was having the EXACT same issue and switched them out and fixed it. Easy fix too, not too pricey. good luck!

I'm thinking more related to too low an engine idle, perhaps due to a misfire (which should light the engine light) or a vacuum leak (which would probably not light the light). Your tachometer should show about 700 rpm at warm idle in neutral. There can be many reasons for low engine idle, including, as witnessx suggests, some electrical issue. I don't think this is transmission related. so yeah, check for ... Read More

Sounds like something electrical to me (could be alternator, or maybe a bad ground). Were there metal particles on the transmission dipstick when you checked the fluid?

So... my 99 I30 was purchased in 2008 as a gift from my grandmother for graduating college - This is the only car I've ever owned so I'm not too savvy - pardon my terminology ignorance in advance. I have (and my mother) have put nearly $3,000 into this money pit (cracked radiator, new tires, oil changes, maintainence check-ups, brake light failures, broken fog light, interior electronic issues - radio volume ... The fix involves installing a relay to bypass the electrical switch that operates the trunk remotely, and there's this: "Prior to beginning repair, ensure that the customer understands that after the repair, they will be unable to open the trunk with the door mounted trunk switch or remote key fob when the transmission selector is in 'Drive'." Incidentally, 614043 is NHTSA's number; Infiniti calls it ITB 00-048a. And it applies only ... Read More

I have a 1999 Infiniti i30. Service engine soon light came on and took it to my mechanic. He said that I needed oxygen sensor replaced and my kock sensor replaced. I was also told that my gas mileage will be much better after those changes. Now, it's been about 2 weeks and my gas mileage has been worse than before. In answer to post 1686 I am purchasing a 1999 I30-L with 60k. I deal with only one company when it comes to extended warranties. www.WarrantyExperts.com It is very important if at all possible to ask for an exclusionary policy. The difference is that an exclusionary policy lists a short list of what is not covered. This is much easier to read and understand and allows for no hidden gimmickry rather ... Read More

See if you can find 2000 I30 program cars coming off lease. I understand Infiniti of Lisle (Chicago) are paying $18,250 which means you could probably buy one for around $19-$20K depending how good you negotiate. Don't know where you are located, but would guess Infiniti dealers in your area may have similar deals. Big difference in 2000/2001 I30's as opposed to 1996-1999. I think you would be much better off ... Read More

I bought my first Infiniti, an 1999 I30t in July. It had only 15000 miles on it. My FAVORITE thing about this particular I30t is that it's a 5speed transmission - one of the very few (and last) produced for the I30. I paid $22,800. for it. It's the best car I've ever owned. I love it.

I have a 99 I30 now with 69k miles. I have always (except while testing higher octanes) used 87 octane gas (I'm cheap). Mileage generally runs 24-25 and on a recent trip to SC (from VA) averaging 69 mph I got 28.2 average. During my test of the higher octane, I noticed I had more power, which I used and slightly LOWER mileage. Also, never had any problems with car except ... Read More

Most cars lose ~30% of their value as soon as they are driven off of the lot. After that, however, their depreciation curves flatten considerably. If you were to drive your $30k 2001 I30 off of the lot and then turn around and attempt to re-sell it to the same dealer 5 minutes later, I am willing to bet a major artery that you would not get more than $22k for ... Having sold many 2000/2001 I30's since their introduction in 1999 I have yet to have a single customer complain about wind noise. Reliability wise not only is the I30 just as good but with a timing chain instead of a timing belt it may even be more reliable than the toyota V6. There is currently a $1,000 owner loyalty bonus for former current Infiniti owners/lessors who are buying an I30/QX4/Q45.
