Did you ever get this figured out? I have the exact same problem in my 91' Safari?
Heat from vents blows luke warm or cool air. When van idles or I come to a stop, air blows cool. When I accelerate, air becomes luke warm but not hot. When there is stress on the engine going uphill, air sometimes stops blowing from vents, but when I remove my foot from the accelerator, the air comes back, but still luke warm or cool air. Replaced radiator, new radiator cap, ... Read More
We have a 1999 Astro Van and it stalls out/then won't start in wet weather. The distributor cap coilwire plug wires fuel pump and relay have all been replaced still stalling out, any ideas?
. Early 95 model and older of Astro/Safari vans had single fiberglass leaf system. Mid 1995 and newer years (like my 2001 van), their factory build was 3 leaf steel spring system. For early 1995 and older leaf spring conversion kits, surf: http://www.stengelbros.com/SteelReplacementSprings.htm For 1999 AWD, one can install +1 leaf (mid length leaf) in the rear. This firms up the rear's suspension but it also lifts the van's rear 1.5". ... Read More
Have a 1999 GMC Safari and it was leaking anti-freeze. Mechanic said it was the intake manifold gasket. He said it would be 800.00, While replacing the gasket he says when he removed the intake manifold something must have fallen into the engine and was causing it to knock. He then had to take it apart again and take the Head off to remove the debris and of course charge more. ... Read More
Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, dirty sensor mounting surfaces cause the signal to drop out at low ... Read More
My sister in law has this 1999 GMC Safari Van with the 4.3L V6... She complains it runs very rough when cold but runs better when warm.. Engine light comes on every few weeks with Code P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak) I did a long overdue tuneup with plugs/wires/disty cap/rotor/fuel filter/PVC/Gas cap etc. I also found a broken vac line to the lower connection to the PVC ... Have the exact same problem with my 1999 Astro. Fan runs on high only and runs on high even with key out. What was the outcome of your same problem and how much did the blower motor resistor cost you? Thanks for your help
I went to backup my 1999 gmc safari van and when I turn the wheels hard right or left It feels like the tires are flat (not) or that I am driving across a series of bumps. It is not suspension related it appears to be in the front wheel drive. The van has 116,000 miles
Our 1999 GMC Safari that has 125,000 developed a ticking/knocking noise on the right side of the engine. I have had some people tell me that it sounds light a collapsed lifter. The runs fine except for this noise. I put in some mystery oil from and the noise is not as nocticable now but I can still hear it. Now when ever I changed the oil, if I do not ... Read More
We have a 99 safari. The blower motor resistor is bad (the blower doesn't turn off even with the key out of the ignition). The old resistor had a part number on it from the factory. The part number has changed. We got the new part from the dealer. But they have "upgraded" the part so it does not look like the same thing. The mechanics at the dealer insisted that ... Read More
You people are aright! My 2001 GMC Safari also had no heat from some outlets.Sometimes they would finally open up.You told me where to look for that tiny plastic vacuum line by the AC unit and where to look on the intake manifold. Sure enough the line was brittle and leaking by the engine.Nappa Auto sells 3' lengths of the plastic tubing(1/8")and the old fittings just pull out.I did cover the ... Read More
Just wanted to write and let everyone know that we have owned 4 Astros and 2 safari vans. We have had very good luck with them, and curently own a 99 Astro LS with 109,000 miles on it. I just recently bought back a 95 GMC Safari All wheel drive Glaval conversion van. It was stolen from us in late January of 2004, but we recovered it the same day. Whoever ... Read More
Never heard of such to that extreme. I've had minor electrical glitches like that, but I traced the problem down to a very loose battery connection. I switched to the big battery post adapters that "normal" vehicles use anyway and that solved my electrical problems. With the running lights -- it sounds like a loose connection within the lighting harness to both the lights. Good luck tmoney!
I have 3 problems with my 1999 GMC Safari. First problem is the daytime running lights works for a week or two then goes out for a month then comes back. Next problem is that 2 weeks ago the radio went out no power at all about 30 minutes after that the windows stopped working. The windows are all the way down on both sides and will not come up. I ... Hey folks, need help, we have a 1999 GMC Safari w/vortec v-6, it was not set up for towing, but I have my eye on a Bigfoot 17' trailer. The owner said it weight about 1875lbs and I should install a class 3 receiver.. Think My Safari can handle it? Thanks, The new guy....
I'm surprised that the man didn't know about the problem. All of them did the chatter when turning. The fix for it is changing the oil in the transfer case. Check with a GMC dealer and they can do it. GM payed for it during the first 36,000 miles. But I think they make you pay for now. I don't remember if the new oil has to be synthetic or not. ... I have a 1999 GMC Safari with only 3300 miles (not a typo). After coming home last evening from a 1-1/2 hour drive, after a stop sign, the transmission had an abrupt shift from 1-2 gear. It happened all the way home from off the freeway to driveway (approx 4 miles). Was all prepared to rush it over to GMC dealer this morning, but no symptoms and couldn't repeat problem to ...
