  • Re: Lucerne vs LaCrosse [twinb]

    Written by: john178 on Sep 2, 2010 4:46:01 AM

I test drove both the Lucerne and LaCrosse before purchasing a new 2011 LaCrosse earlier this week. The Lucerne rides like the Cadillac DTS I recently had- very comfortable ride. I have heard the Lucerne is going to be phased out soon for another model. I have not heard the LaCrosse is going to be replaced. I liked both cars very much- but the LaCrosse handles like a sports car ( ... Read More

I can't see Buick dropping the Lucerne. It might be time for a redesign. The one they did for the 2010 Lacrosse is jaw dropping! It just depends on what you're looking for with your new car. The Lucerne is going to give you the typical smooth Buick ride. The Lacrosse will get you more MPG and a sportier ride and drive. How much space do you need for passengers? Those ... Read More

Ryster, thank you for the encouraging words. The dealer is a very reputable dealer and I had no doubts they would fix the car, if possible. It did put a little scare in me since the car was so new. The oil pan gasket was replaced on 1-22-2010 and I have not seen any more oil, yet anyway. I hope that was just a fluke that is now fixed for many, ... Read More

The lease on my 2007 Lucerne CSX will be up in July 2010 and it is a shame that GMAC is no longer leasing vehicles at this time. In the past GMAC would give customers an option to turn in their leased car early and get another vehicle. When I worked for Oldsmobile we had hundreds of satisfied customers who continually re-leased one Olds after another. The car is currently posted ... Read More

Car sales of large cars are all down this year versus last year - The Impala is way down, but is really a midsize based on interior dimensions, but is the top seller of the cars listed (152K for this year so far versus 210K last year at this time). The Ford Taurus at 36K this year is now outselling Avalon 31K (Taurus sales are down (36K for Taurus vs. 42K ... Read More

neither G8 or Genesys are included here for discussion by our hosts. Alexstore - think there are some limits on the no. of cars that can be shown to be part of the group. The G8 was specifically included, and later removed - I guess becuase it wasn't available yet. That is no longer the case - there would seem to be no reason that the G8 shouldn't be fair game ... My two cents: Lucerne: Nice car, but, older design and antique engines (Agreed, I might buy if I were 65 or older :) } Impala: same as above and rental fleet king (Agreed, but that V8 might be fun in the SS) Charger/300: great V8 thats where it ends (Have one, like the MDS HEMI, the handling is great with the independently suspended RWD, comfortable inside and the LXFORUMS.com is a ... The 3800 is the last Buick-designed engine ever made. When it is phased out, there will never be a Buick that drives and rides like a Buick again. All Buicks now will get either the GM High Feature engine or the Cadillac Northstar engine. Although more powerful and many people are happy with it, to me, putting in one of the two engines in a Buick will not drive and ride ... Read More

Well the RWD Lucerne, will likely not make it to market until 2010, as a 2011 model. The Buick Velite Sedan could be here in 09' as a 2010 model built on the Zeta, archetecture. I would assume a Convertible will be out at the same time or the year after. ;) So yeah the 3.6 would be a better choice. The Lucerne should have this line-up. CX- 3800 V6 197-205 ... Read More

agree- excluding those SC 'Gran Nationals' of 20 years ago, Buick has been nothing but an 'old folks' car - an extremely hard image to change. Even the Avalon is still fighting this - 2 years later. Think, however, that as the Impala goes so will the Buick 'copies', maybe a 2010 Lucerne that is RWD and with one of those V8s - just hope that gas isn't $5+/gallon by then ... Read More

It's working fine Kirstie. I plug in the search window 2007, then 2008, then 2009, then 2010, then 2011. Each one of those years I type under the "Search Forums" space I can find anything with those years in the title. ;) Well back to the 2011' RWD Buick Lucerne ;) Rocky

Is the Saturn Aura Epsilon 2? Then that makes sense, and the Lucerne will go RWD in 2009 or 2010?

The zeta platform seems to be back. The Camaro will be on this platform, as well as a GTO. However, more to the point, so will some RWD sedans. In particular, the W-platform is to be replaced (Impala, Grand Prix, LaCrosse). So, Buick may have a RWD LaCrosse (said to be the Invicta), which may be larger than the FWD LaCrosse. These new cars are to be 2009 models. I can ... Read More

I doubt the Lucerne or DTS or LaCrosse will ever see 2009 much less 2010 in their current architectures. Both cars were majors but heavily kept the old architectures. While they may not be profitable over their lifetimes due to lower than expected volumes (to be seen) they were meant to be short term models. Epsilon 2 will be the W car replacement as far as a high volume midsize vehicle ... Read More

I don't know what direction GM will take, but their current product line for cars is not working. They need to bring out something new and exciting. The latest Motor Trend suggests that the W-platform will be replaced by a RWD platform that will make the Camaro affordable. That suggests that the Impala, LaCrosse and perhaps the Grand Prix will become RWD sedans. This does not mean the Lucerne and DTS ... Read More

The RWD platform will be new. By 2010 the Lucerne/DTS platform may be replaced by the RWD platform. The VVT northstar is a RWD northstar. To what extent the VVT requires major changes to the engine is not clear to me, my guess is that it is not a simple matter of bolting something on.

Written by: rockylee on Jan 3, 2006 8:15:01 PM

The Lucerne will get a 6 speed automatic either 2007 or 2008 from what I'm hearing. GM has plans to produce over 3 million 6 speed autos by 2010 ;) As far as VVT, I'm not sure why it didn't make it to the Lucerne. Perhaps this will be done in the next few years. The plan is for the Lucerne to go to RWD with a possible All Wheel Drive ... Read More
