    Your BMW engine is a high compression/high performance engine that is designed to use Premium fuel. Please don't confuse the requirement of using leaded versus unleaded gasoline with a directive for running Regular versus Premium grade. Best regards, Shipo

    Thanks Shipo. But it says UNLEADED not UNLEADED PREMIUM. So you are saying just use UNLEADED/REGULAR gas?

    I'd also check the neutral safety switch. Try starting it in neutral--if that works, the NS switch is bad or your shift linkage is way out of adjustment. the starter would be the last item in the diagnostic chain and the least likely (but possible). So, simple things first---go from the simple to the complex, not the other way 'round.

    Check the engine to chassis ground cables and load test the battery before you yank the starter.

    We have a BMW that will not start. Key turns and all lights on, but then no clicks, nothing. No sound at all. trying to remove starter to get tested but how do you get to the top bolt? We have a haynes book but not very helpful on what if anything else to remove and directions on howto. Any ideas for some help? Thank you

    Yes, but the Owner's Manual clearly says use Unleaded Premium fuel. ;)

    At 200,000 miles I have a chance to purchase a 1994 BMW 530i. Anything I should look for when test driving this car? I tend to read alot of transmission comments when it comes to 530i's. The car looks clean and well taken care of, but at 200,000 I would think something has to be waiting to happen or I may be wrong? I look forward to any replies.

This winter I put on Hakkepelitta snow tires which run 1100.00 up here.     I am at my wits end, Can anyone help? Has the battery been load tested? Terminals cleaned? Ground cables cleaned? Those are the most likely culprits.

    Recently (like the last month) I have been having problem with my 525i not wanting to start. I checked the battery and it is fine. Everything electrical works, but it won't start. However if I try to jump start it using the post in the engine it roars to life. I am at my wits end, Can anyone help?

    Disclaimer: I know both Steve Dinan and Jim Conforti and have tracked and competed in cars using their software(my Dinan chipped 1988 M6 won its Autocross class at Oktoberfest 1994) I have never had any reason to doubt the truthfulness of their claims regarding their chips or ECU reflashes.     Don't even think about trying to drop a 3 liter V8 into a 1992 525i. Why?     It would takean electrical genius to sort thru the multitiude of electrical problems your car has but I'd bet that the smell and some of the poor running is caused by a bad (plugged up) Catalytic converter. If your mechanic has not figured this out, get a new mechanic (and a new Cat).

    My check engine light came on when my bmw was leaking coolant. I put a new raidiator in it and the check engine light stayed on. The fuses keep blowing in the car and we just replaced the rear tail light assembly.
