I have several friends with older 1998-2003 audi's of various models (with moderate mileage - about 60k), they often complain or electrical gremlins and various other component failures with their cars. I'm looking for feedback from 2006/2007 A8 owners and their reliability experiences.
As usual, you castigate every dissenting viewpoint to yours... Hype, wannabe, envy, etc.. Here is a simple factoid for you: can you tell us which MB has had an in-dash CD changer for years and are sold here in the US ??? And as usual your posts are minus the facts. Yes I can tell you, the E-Class. The E has had an in-dash CD changer since 2003. Audis had them ... Read More
"I personally need a very reliable all-season car for the winters and all,and don't have alot of money to spend." I agree with rjlaero, the A8 is a great car, but I don't think even the greatest Audi enthusiast would consider a '97 A8 with 152k miles as a safe buy for reliability, especially if you need something that is cheap. It would be a fun weekend car, or something that ... Read More
Audi's A8 is a beautiful car and their advertising budget has evidently been increased. This has at least as much to do with sales as their mechanical reliability and the quality of their service. But I have a few horror stories of my own if you'll allow: Purchased a 2000 A8 in 2003 from a private party -- out of Audi's warranty period and no extended warranty. Six or seven months ... "The lone M signature appeared on my screen first and I managed a double take. Servants… come hither! Slaughter my best pig, prepare my table, pour my finest wine… my son has returned!" That is too much! Thanks! Good to be back. So nice to be missed. The M5 and E55: I meant that the M5 will beat the E55/CLS55 in the comparos and anything else upcoming like the ... Read More
Trying to defeat the so-called "Lexi group" is useless.... Same as trying to defeat the "BMW-crowd" or "MB-fanatics". Stating which: many of us Lexi fans know quite a bit about MBs and BMWs (prior owners, friends and family), but I find that *many* German car fans are more introverted with their brand loyalty and don't even bother to learn much about Toyota/Lexus bcos of the bias based on perceptions of Japanese ... "I've always been curious about something, why cant the Germans manage to put in-dash CD changers in their cars? That is something that Nissan and Honda were doing 10 years ago, and yet just recently Audi managed to actually put one in a few of its cars, and cars that just came out like the Taureg still have it shoved in the trunk. Whats up with that?" I'm going to surprise ... Read More
This board seems to be only about Lexus and Mercedes. Does anyone here own an A8L? If I had about $80k to put down on any car, it would be an A8L--until the A8 SWB arrives. The exterior is gorgeous. The interior is beautiful. The ride is a little sporty for it's size (which I like--not too soft or too sporty). I like the roominess, because I'm always driving people around. ... Read More
Just curious to know what the group here thinks about some of the new luxury debuts at Detroit. It appears that Audi is going to step to the major leagues with the new A8L 6.0 W12 by the end of the year, it will priced around 115K. Yikes! Double yikes because the Phaeton W12 (10hp less btw) is priced at 88K. On paper it makes the Audi version look like a ... Read More
The item below comes from Autoweek, yet I could not verify the news at the USA Audi site. Can anyone confirm? (2239 Nov. 27, 2003) Audi says shorter-wheelbase A8, performance variants likely on way to U.S. The 2004 Audi A8 L will probably have some company soon. (Photo © 2003 Ingo Barenschee) Don’t look for Audi to stand pat with its 2004 A8 L in the North American market. Though ... Read More

Ah, yes the good old 300e. I have 150 thousandish miles on mine. Such a wonderful car to drive. I can't imagine trading it in for an M though! What a difference in those two cars. I am sure you could get a good deal on a 2003 S. But, you might want to wait for the 2004. It gets the 7 speed tranny. But if that isn't important to you, ... Read More
I was wrong, when comparing 2003 models, the A8 has highest horsepower. Lexus has highest torque. MB and Jag trail. When 2004's are out for all models we can revisit. Both Jag and Audi are up in 04 from 03. I supposed MB and Lex will be too. For those of you for whom seeing is believing, links follow: From the following sites: Lexus, MB and Edmunds Click to follow to ... Read More
That is my wish so that I can buy the new A8L. I finally sat in and test drove the new A8L yesterday. Very nice is all I can say when I finished the test drive. It's not as quiet as the Lexus LS430 or as sporty as the BMW 745Li, but it did everything well. I drove it in the city, on the highway, and a little in the country. ... Read More

Well the price difference between the 2003 A8 and 2004 A8 can be explained very easily. Audi is no longer importing the short-wheelbase model, they're starting out for 2004 with the A8L and only going up from there. If they price the new A8L at 75K thats about 8K more than the current A8L. Sales of the A8L were much better than the short wheelbase model in the latter years of ... Read More
You've somehow let the others confuse you. Where did I use "ownership experience" in any of MY posts? Though since you bring up the concept, why don't you take a look at the SL500 board and see what the owners have to say. Are you saying that every SL has to go back to the dealer and that all MB dealers are arrogant? If that is the case all of Cadillac's ... Read More
Check out this article on the 2003 S-Class. It talks about true "Innovations" like Pre-Safe. The article asserts that the "...Even so, with the debut of the 2003 updates, the S-Class is quite likely to maintain its standing at the head of its class." http://thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=5279&n=157,183&sid=183 While your at it, try this one... http://thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=5213&n=157,183&sid=183 In regards to interior it says "...The displays are quite classy, though surprisingly simple in design, especially compared ... Just took a look at the pics on the DC website. Nice front lights and AMG body update. 2003 S-Class rear lights and it looks like the interior buttons are sleeker and smaller. Much bigger 16:9 format COMAND display. But the real news a 500HP V8 with Paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Even an update to the ABC system. Again MB makes the mid cycle updates the best time to ... Read More
I recently ordered a new A8L 2003 for delivery in October. In view of the fact that the A8 will experience a re-do in the summer of '03, I am wondering what the effect will be on the current body styling when the new style hits the market next summer. I visited another dealer this week and they were willing to knock $3000 off the list price which I felt was ... Read More
Steverisisty: We are in the same boat! I am also considering a '99 A8 in the $37K range (black car in Seattle by chance???). I have never owned an Audi, so I will not be much help to you. I am hoping an A8 veteran will assist both of us regarding this technological wonder of a car. I love the 300hp and quattro system! I have not driven the A8. I ... Read More
Wow! I can only imagine. By they way I got to "see" a couple of Diablo's this weekend. I never realized how loud the V12 in that car is, it sounds as if it's barely running, but man you throttle it!
