  • Problems with audi A8

I have a 2002 A8L - quit running. Mechanic replaced fuel pump ($1485); it ran for 2 weeks. Quit again. Sounds as if it's out of gas, but it's not. Anyone have a similar problem - better yet - know a solution. Been in the garage for 2 weeks - mechanic can't figure it out. Slader00

I couldn’t agree more. The Amaretto is by far the most rich looking color of interior that Audi has. I have been looking to upgrade from my 2002 S8 into something newer like an ‘06 A8 or possibly a VW Phaeton. Has anyone driven a VW Phaeton?

Can we focus on the subject matter and ditch the personal insults? You obviously tried to insult me with your "pie in the sky" accusation, then my number turned out to be very sound. Now from nowhere you are accusing me of relying on Google. I knew the 1800 number without consulting google; if I did rely on google, I would have given you the 2100 number for Mainland and HK ... I, too, look at AutoSpies sometimes to watch the posts. It's pretty hilarious. The people there are in constant fighting- it's like Lexus vs. Audi vs. BMW all the time! It's much more civilized here. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm assessing all the cars in the high-end class, from worst to best: Jaguar XJ: Old-world British charm just doesn't cut it any more. This car is beautiful ... Read More

I HAVE owned this 2000 A8 (no L) since 2002. SEcond owner after off lease. First thing I did was take it to the local Audi dealer and look over every square inch. When I arrived to pick it up, he was visibally dissappointed that they had found NOTHING. I'd have to do some reasearch to get theEXACT figure below what you and would have expected for a purcchase price. . ... Read More

I have been reading your forum for a long time and have enjoyed it. I got my "base" Audi A8 in Feb and now have 11000 miles on it with no problems. The only extras I have are the sports and premium package but the car is fabulous. I got the black with black interior. I previously had a 2002 A6 4.2 which was great, but the A8 is exceptional. Purchased a 2000 A8L in June 2002 with Audi certified warranty. Loved the car. Then came 75K and no reverse. Have heard the warnings through this forum.....believe them and extend your warranties (if the cost makes sense). My transmission repair will run about $3400.00 (after the $570.00 it took to determine that I'd need to spend the $3400.00), from what I've read, that's not a bad deal. Big picture....the car's great, ... Read More

Like it or not, sales volume is the final arbiter in the winner or loser category. How well a car does in its category determines alot about its fate. Slow selling cars are withdrawn or overhauled, good sellers are lauded by the motor co. and beloved by dealers. The A8 is a fine car, but it clearly can't match the salea of the BMW or Benz or Lexus. Consider the A8's ... Read More

I meant, 2002, the first year it was produced. Sorry. Merc Lexus sells over 300k units a year from less than 200 stores, nationwide. And they sold 40k LS in 1992 for over $45k, which with inflation, puts it's price near Audi's A8 today. Numbers of dealers is no excuse. If it's "All That", people will go get the car. People wait 3 months for a Mini Cooper. Or Prius. If ... Read More

Yes I can tell you, the E-Class. The E has had an in-dash CD changer since 2003. Audis had them ... Read More

Why do you think MB resale values have fallen so far. The market for three year old MB's is quite weak. So.stop worrying about the cost of reliablility but start worrying about the value of your ... Well one way to check is using Edmunds prices. These may vary by zip but heres a look at the resale of 2002's before you add in any options in my area, so it is simply base car to base car. BMW 745 LI values: http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/bmw/7series/100070588/options.html?tid=edmunds.u.prices.u- - - - - - tmv.vdpprice.13.BMW* I believe MSRP was about $76000 so that means a retained value of 52.9% on trade-in, 56.4% on private ... Well you know what I think of the A8 W12's new grille. I think it fits perfectly. Gives the car real presence. Mercedes and Bruno Sacco are done from everything I've read. He is apparently still "close" (whatever that means) to the company but he isn't running the design studios. Oh well, not even Mercedes, BMW or Audi can make a gorgeous car every time. It still doesn't make a difference if the LS430's "Euro" option doesn't cost anything because the S430 or S500 is still going to cost more anyway, so whats the difference? You're not comparing cars of equal specification. Thats like me saying the E500 Sport outhandles the regular LS430, that simply isn't a fair comparision. I really think you're making to broad of a statement when it comes to the press. They ... Read More

I believe the gentleman comparing the A8 with the Phaeton is making a huge oversight, the all aluminum space frame, making the A8 a lighter car, which improves handling, gas milage, driving feel and dynamics. There is a price difference and also a marque difference. Someone who is interested in a Audi never cross considers it with a VW. I know from personal shopping experience that when I was shopping for ... Read More

"In 2001, Audi sold just 163 A8's in Canada while Mercedes sold 1,218 S-Class models, Jaguar 498 XJ sedans, BMW 466 7-Series models, and Lexus 455 LS430's. Even the terminally-trailing Infiniti Q45 (which admittedly is new for 2002) sold 190 units." Greg Wilson. Now I know that Canada is very small in population compared to the U.S., but was this the case here as well? Anyone have the numbers?

You've somehow let the others confuse you. Where did I use "ownership experience" in any of MY posts? Though since you bring up the concept, why don't you take a look at the SL500 board and see what the owners have to say. Thanks. Well you know how I feel about Mercedes, BMW and my personal underdog Audi. As long as one of these three have the title "World's Best" I'm smitten. Mercedes had it for so long so in a way I was *kinda* glad to see BMW leapfrog Mercedes' 560SEL in 1988 with the 750iL, and it looks like it will happen again for 2002 with the 760iL.
