TDI fuel system self destructs!!!

No More TDI For Me, 11/28/2010
2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbodiesel 6M)

The '09 TDI was in many ways the best car I'd owned in 20+ years. Safe, comfortable, good handling in snow, and amazing MPG (44 hwy, 37 city over 20K miles). However, the TDI has a faulty high pressure fuel pump design and complete failures are showing up all over the US due to the poor quality of US diesel compared to Europe. Bottom line? at 21K my pump failed and shot metal particles through the entire fuel system. It was all replaced (tank to injectors) at a cost of about $10K. This was covered by warranty and the dealer was great-- but there is nothing to prevent it from happening again, out of warranty. And who needs are car that may self-destruct without warning at any time? Stay away.

good value

2009 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition PZEV 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6AM)

I have a 2009 Jetta SE (not Wolfsburg but the option isn't showing up). No clue what "Nicole" is talking about - to play music through your iPod you press the "CD" button again to switch between the CD changer and ipod. You DO NOT have to remove CDs. 2.5 engine is reliable, but not very fun or fuel efficient. Rides very smoothly. Has a nice amount of features. Feels very safe and solid. Interior quality is very good, on par with some higher-end marques. HVAC system is a weak. AC takes awhile to cool the car and is noisy at the higher settings. Trunk is huge and inside space is more than adequate for 4 adults. Leatherette seating is high quality and the seats are comfortable.

I love my Jetta!

I absolutely love my Jetta. It has so many upscale features and is a great value and fun to drive. For a fairly small car, it's incredibly well designed, making optimal space in the backseat and a large trunk. When my lease runs out I plan to get another one! Why would I buy any other car?

Definitely worth every penny

This car definitely has a very solid feel to it, especially when compared to other brands. We found the rear legroom to be plenty for people under 6'. The downside is the 2.5L feels boring, heavy and slow, plus it's mileage isn't that great in the city. Wish they would've kept the 2.0T, but they wanted better reliability, so 2.5L it is. Interior is typical VW quality, although it's a little drab especially if you have the black interior. The quality of the V-Tex is very good, but it makes the front seats are a little too firm. Trunk is huge huge huge. Lots of features not found in other cars of it's class, such as heated seats, heated mirrors, etc. Haven't had any reliability issues so far..

After 16 months, 22,000 miles. Paint is very soft, hood has numerous chips. Idiot dealer response-"do you drive a lot on the freeway?". Rear brakes overheat frequently, 50% worn with front brakes virtually unused. Idiot dealer response-"that's the way the car is designed". Just received notice from Volkswagen of possible premature wear in transmission, along with extension of the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles, but apparently only on the particular part that is wearing out prematurely. Steering requires more effort than I would like. Seats well shaped but hard. Cost of diesel consistently $.30 higher than gasoline. Good points: excellent fuel mileage (38 average, up to 54 On
