2020 Subaru Forester
This 2020 Forester is our 23rd car but the first Subaru. After 6 years and 80000 miles:
Mileage 31.2 mpg (smooth-driving mix of country roads and suburbs). Sharp tech displays feel like you're flying a spaceship--fun to geek-out on. The ride is composed, refined, quiet, and comfortable. There is adequate engine power for daily driving. The 500+ mile range means fewer trips to the … gas station. Harman-Kardon has become glitchy and the sound quality is only average when working. Great greenhouse visibility and a tight turning circle. This vehicle now feels like a much-loved, favorite pair of jeans. Reasonably reliable overall, except for a thermal control valve which left us walking.
An annoying buzz/rattle eminates from above the left-rear pax window. OEM Falken tires replaced with Michelin Defender II, which have been wonderful.
Eye-Sight technology is ZERO HELP as it requires hands on wheel and close monitoring--more effort than just driving yourself. Plus it doesn't work in the fog or heavy rain, exactly the time where it could theoretically be useful. Lane centering has not proven as useful. Would have never paid for this option if I had it to do over and should have purchased the cheaper Sport model, instead.
Auto-shut off is a pain. It has saved a grand total of a gallon-and-a-half of fuel over the last three years ($8 worth of fuel). How much does a new starter cost?
AWOL: 360 camera, foot activated hatch, and ventilated seats are conspicuously absent from the options list--I would have happily paid extra for these.
