Quality, Reliability, and Longevity

2023 Lexus NX 350h
Had a Lexus LX470 before. Then went to a German vehicle (Porsche) for a more exciting driving experience but got tired of all the expensive little/big issues which constantly popped up and poor backing to fix obvious recall issues. So, I went back to Lexus. Down sized to the NX because kids are gone. Went Hybrid because gas kept going up. Bought a 2023 NX 350h / Premium. Didn’t … like the HUD and Premium was perfect in all aspects. Apple car play works great and the touch screen takes time getting use to but works fine. Interior quality is very good. Solid ride and quiet unless you punch it accelerating then you hear the disappointment weak engine sound. But, this what you give up for better gas mileage. Does driving this NX 350h put a smile on my face ? No …. But, do I feel confident in knowing it will be reliable and great quality over the Germans ? Absolutely, YES ! My NX 350h was made in Japan (if this something you would consider, I did.).
6 Months Update: Quality and Reliability is so nice to have again in my vehicle. My NX350h has approximately 5k miles with not a single issue ! My Porsche at this time had rattling issues in the rear panel (cover under warranty but never truly fixed) which upset me for a vehicle costing at that time over $125k). The NX350h rides smooth and comfortable. No rattles or quality issues. From 0-50 mph, I have to admit it is peppy but after 55 mph, it is boring slow. This bump in speed is due mainly to the rear electric motor. I will definitely change the tires and wheels once the idiot run flats tire wear out. Lexus needs to learn from the Germans on how to properly offer wider tires as an option or standard. You can order 20” rims for the NX but the tires are too skinny ! For those who are into an eco friendly type look, then you will be happy. I prefer an option to have the Macan turbo wheel width look and sacrifice some mpg for better handling. This NX350h is living up to what I expected. Quality and Reliability is on par and far superior in vehicles costing twice more. I would throw in longevity too due to prior ownership of a LX470. Fuel Economy is excellent too and was one of my main reasons buying it. Have to admit I am looking forward to changing the tires and wheels to increase better cornering/handling. Still 4 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Update: It has now been little over a year since buying my NX350h. It has approximately 23,000 miles with one minor recall. It is for the rear traction motor cable. Possible corrosion issues so they will put a new cover seal. This will be done on my next oil change. But, outside of this there has been zero issues. Once again, Lexus quality and reliability surpasses every German piece of crap vehicle I’ve ever owned. The amount of money my Dinan BMW, Mercedes (2 E Classes) and Porsche 997C4S has costed me through out my ownership was ridiculous. Poor quality but fun to drive during the first 5 years would sum it up for these German made vehicles.
This being said of my previous experiences, the 350h is totally opposite in every way. Quality and reliability is 5 Stars. But, fun to drive is 3 Stars. The run flat tires wear as fast as my previous Michelin Pilot Sports on the 911 with far less fun ! Handling is fair compared to a Macan but acceleration isn’t bad. The NX350h has decent acceleration.
Another positive is the gas mileage or lack there of in City driving due to the electric motor. I do smile when I fill up and how long my gas indicator move ever so slowly. So, my NX350h is basically what I expected from Lexus . Just like my previous LX450, solid, reliable, top quality but boring to drive.
