2022 Toyota Tacoma
Bought the 4 cyl base SR double cab after renting two V6's and one 4 cyl, because the 4 cyl a more refined driving experience. Contrary to expectation, the 4 cyl is quieter than the V6 and has no vibration when sitting at a stop light. The transmission is not undecisive like it is on the V6. So overall the 4 cyl is more pleasurable to drive. Hurried suburban drivers will not like the … 4 cyl, however, because it's acceleration is too slow. Hurried mountainous terrain drivers may also not like the 4 cyl because it loses speed on hills unless the driver uses a heavy throttle to cause the transmission to downshift to 4th gear. On level highways the 4 cyl really shines because you will find the truck's speed drifts up to 70-80 MPH despite just barely depressing the accelerator pedal.
Ride quality is busier and more truck like than a car, but not to a bothersome degree. Engine exhaust noise during hard acceleration is noticeably more subdued on the double cab model vs the access cab. Road noise is low with the standard Toyo tires. Wind noise moderate.
Seat comfort is good as the seats are well padded by modern truck standards and much better padded than late model Toyota cars.
