Used 2006 Toyota Corolla S 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
An unremarkably remarkable car
In November 2005, I did a lot of research to find a new car that gets me from point A to point B for the most bang-for-the-buck. I didn't need anything fancy, but I wanted something reliable that would last a long time if I took care of it. It boiled down to the Corolla or the Civic. The Civic, while being a little more stylish and having a nicer ride, ended up being far more expensive in almost every category, i.e. final price, insurance, cost to maintain. So I settled on the Corolla. I've owned the car for over 15 years now and it has not disappointed. I've only had to do the expected regular maintenance. The only major maintenance I did was repaint the hood and roof of the car a year ago as the paint was beginning to fade and chip off. But the car has been worth every penny. I'm hoping to keep it for at least 5 more years for a full 20 at which point I'll probably be ready for another new vehicle.

Good Value
My Corolla is 12.5 years old now and still giving me good service. It has been the best car I have owned, especially regarding cost and repairs. It is a solid little car. Great mileage, too.

Literal piece of crap
I purchased a 2006 Corolla new in late 2006. Within the first year I had to replace the starter. Then the following year I had to replace the alternator and battery. In my 5th year of ownership at around 70,000 miles the ECU (computer) failed and I had to bring it in for the recall on it. About 8 months later the car started shifting terribly and sometimes wouldn't make it to second gear. The transmission torque converter ended up being bad. I ended up selling the car and getting a Civic which was a much better car. The ONLY thing the Corolla had an advantage with was fuel economy. Everything else was torture.

I will never buy another Toyota
Bought this car new after 2004 Toyota Corolla S had manual transmission failure. This car then had manual transmission failure under warranty. Then the ECM was recalled, failed and was replaced. Then the transmission failed again and out $3500.Then the ECM failed after one year so no warranty and out $700. Will never buy another Toyota again.
2006 Toyota Corolla S
My wife and I took a leap and traded a 2004 Malibu LT for this Corolla S. What a smart move. Our mileage has been over 40 mpg since we bought it 2 months ago. We now have 4300 miles on the car and are very happy overall. This 5-speed Corolla is too much fun!
