I bought my Avalon this year and it was 13 years old with 186,000 miles already on it... I just love it... I've had some major repairs but they were no more than 3000 bucks... Which is cheap for a car that is that old with such high mileage... I would recommend this car 100%... I just love my Avey... It's roomy... all my "big" friends can fit in it comfortably and that was a huge concern for me because I'm not small myself... this car is just perfect... but it is a toyota...

Avalon--Better by a Mile!

Bought used and by far the best car we have EVER owned with a driving history of 30+ years! I would recommend this year to anyone, and plan to buy another if need be. Toyota really messed up when they built this car-- it's too good! Superb power, agility, ride, roominess. No problems mechanically other than normal wear.

Comfortable, Reliable and Bland

We purchased our Avalon with 13,300 miles on it in August 1996 and sold it in September 2007 at 94,000 miles. My wife wanted a mid-to-large size sedan; this car replaced a 1986 Mercedes 300E. It was not purchased as a "glamor car." We bought the base XL model and added alloy wheels and pinstriping to spruce it up a bit. For 9 of the 11 years we owned it we lived in Southern CA; the last two years we've been in Tucson, AZ. Total cost of maintenance (including 14 tires) was $5,200, about $40/month. Usage was about 80% around town and 20% on the highway. The 192 hp engine proves good (but not blazing) acceleration. Overall a good - but not great - car.

This 1996 Toyota Avalon has been an excellent vehicle. Bought it new in '96 and have had no problems with the car except those inflicted by the Toyota dealer service dept. Leather seats/ergonomics are very comfortable, can drive for 10 hours without getting stiff. Car is very peppy and enjoyable to drive. Want to buy another one when this one wears out, but it only has 160,000 miles and seems to have plenty of life left. This car had the same battery and brakes for the first 120,000 miles. All other parts still original other than required maint. like timing belt. The paint and interior have held up like a much more expensive car.
