Poor Over Road Ride
I just purchased a New 2012 4runner Limited. I purchased the Limited over the SR5 because it was supposedly smoother riding. The vehicle pulses through the steering wheel at all speeds. I spoke to Toyota and had it back to the dealership twice. They both told me that it was a truck and that is the way it rides and I should live with it. I owned 12 new trucks before this and none rode this bad, of course none were a Toyota. I personal feel that it is th 20" wheels and tires that they put on this vehicle. They are hard riding and poor handling. I am limited to 2 tire manufacturers with these wheels so i can not even buy touring tires.
So Far It's Great! 2011 SR5 4WD 6 cyl
Have had my 2011 4Runner since 10/29/10. Right out fo the gate, there is a slight engine stutter between 40 mph and 50 mph - haven't taken it in yet as it doesn't impact performance . So far I've taken it off-road; sand/mud/snow, as well as day-to-day pavement. This thing is GREAT ALL-AROUND. I got just over 200K miles out of my Chevy Trailblazer and expect to get at least that out of this 4Runner.

4runner FanAtic
This is my second 4Runner & it is everything my 06 was & more! Great work & recreational vehicle rolled into one reliable package. I can carry tools & a Little Giant ladder for work, or our three large Akitas for hiking. Fuel consumption is better too with an average of 20 - 21 mpg.

Most reliable vehicle....!!!!
There is no vehicle more reliable than a Toyota 4Runner. Also, it is as tough as they come! It’s only weaknesses are poor gas mileage and turn radius. Two things that have never been addressed. Overall, it’s reliability is unchallenged by any other vehicle on the market. Something that is amazing in a four wheel drive vehicle! Just an incredibly able vehicle!
BEST TRUCK/SUV YOU CAN BUY
I love this truck. It's got a big perimeter frame and will tow 5'000 lbs, bulletproof, proven 270HP 4.0L V-6, SOLID proven 5-Speed auto transmission. It's built with the old recipe that all trucks follow. I got the Limited, which has a smooth full-time 4WD system (I was weary of that, but it plows through everything) locking diffs, JBL sound system, and one of the best features, ubiquitous on ALL 4-runners, the retractable rear window! Super versatile. Hands down the best engineered, thoughtfully planned out & best manufactured and assembled vehicles I've ever owned. If you see one, want one, get it. They don't last long once they're listed. Plus, ALL 4-runners have been, and are still, fully manufactured and assembled in Japan. Japanese culture tends to hold craftsmanship and masterful work in high regard. Superb quality & construction. Super high re-sale values, also.

Solid choice
I really enjoy the 4Runner and it has met all my expectations. I wanted a truck with the SUV body and that is exactly what it is. I was also aware that the vehicle is a bit underpowered and am I fine with that. We also own a 2010 Highlander Limited. The Highlander is more like a car to me now than a crossover SUV. Anyone who complains about not having an assisted tail gate clearly should be buy another vehicle, or needs to go to the gym.
It is a cheap truck with a back seat.
Last car was a $55g 09 BMW 335i xdrive w/ sport - ref this vehicle for my pov. It was the ultimate, if you want a fast capable vehicle. Now let's talk about a real suv. I wanted a fun and radical departure from a 335 - I got it! The 4runner is not fast and is NOT a luxury car - slow down and enjoy life. The interior, ride, and quality is fine for a 45g truck based suv. If you want a fancier version - shell out the bones for a Lexus GX. The seats are fine for a truck, the body is not meant to reduce drag so it whines at times, and the brakes make a sound. It is a great vehicle in a quirky niche that is overall big fun to drive for a relatively small payment. Fun ride.
This isn't a lexus RX
After extensive research, we've ordered a 4X4 limited as our next family vehicle. To sum it up, there is nothing in the market that combines this level of engineering, reliability, reasonable refin't, indestructability and versatility as the 4runner.No, it does not drive like the MDX or the FX35. No, it does not pamper you like the RX or the RR. But if you live in snow and deer country, and need a vehicle that can do and survive anything...this is it. For 40 grand (huge dealer discounts on a gas hog that no one wants), you get keyless entry, navigation, bluetooth, backup camera, heated leather seats...all wrapped inside the strongest body-on-frame design in its class. Deer zero, 4Runner one.
4runners are not what they used to be
I have had the pleasure of owning 2 other 4runners before this one. One was a 2000 (leased but new) and the other I bought with 18,000 miles on it (2003) and had it until 118,000 miles when I decided to purchase a new 2011 model. While they did some nice improvements (love it being taller!) the quality isn't there anymore. I have had a rattling in the AC vent for 7 months (the dealership tried to fix it 5 times and still hasn't succeeded) and the paint chips so easily. And why would they keep the long antenna? I have been in touch with the dealership and Toyota customer service, and they just keep saying to take it to the dealership. Its a shame...
Very pleased so far
I own an '04 4Runner with 130,000 miles--this SUV has been as close to flawless as possible. It has never broken down on me--never.Time to hand down to daughter so I need a new SUV. Read all the reviews of the '10 and '11 4Runner and lots of negatives reviews had me looking to Jeep GC, BMW X5. Test drove all three, bought the 4Runner two months ago and haven't looked back. Good and bad differences compared to my '04: eliminating the lighted running boards and locking gas cap on the '11 was disappointing, loved my '04 6 engine and it's acceleration, don't love my 11 engine with it's acceleration. '11 is wider interior and way more comfortable leather seats vs. '04. Overall I'm happy with it
