Solid Performer
I had an FJ cruiser with an expired lease term so I traded it in for the 4Runner. It feels solid; the ride quality is definitely truck-like, which is exactly what I wanted. It feels solid all around. Great exterior styling. Inside styling, I was not too keen on but it is growing on me as I drive it more. Off road, this truck is amazing; it begs to be driven off the beaten path. I owned a 3rd. gen. 4Runner and then bailed out when the design became a little too elegant and suburban on the 4th generation. This one captures the truck heritage and the ruggedness of the 2nd and 3rd generation 4Runners. I am glad they stuck with the body-on- frame formula. Very happy so far.
Good driving
After driving 8 months and 12k miles I still feel this is a very comfortable and reliable truck. Good for off roading as well as daily commute. Averaging 19.5 M.P.G in mixed driving which is excellent for a 6 thousand pound vehicle having a 4.0 L V6(278 ft-lb torque). The silver color really shines. Seats high up and has a commanding view of the surrounding. Coming from a German sedan i feel like this is a must have for people who have bad roads in your town. My BMW had stiff ride, but now I never complain about those roads.

Son? Where's the Tranny Dipstick
Oh dad there's no dipstick, that's old school stuff. I got 160k miles on it and I don't even need to change the tranny oil. " What?! that is krazy son I need to make sure you got enough tranny oil I'm pulling all this gear for the past 1k miles and and I have another 2k miles to go. And why don't you change the tranny oil?" Unbelievable, I taught my son how to do his own maintenance and he doesn't even do a tranny drain and fill. This is the first time I drove this vehicle. It runs beautifully, towing 3000lbs of equipment to New York from Washington state to assist my son, to deliver his truck and some equipment for a job he was completing and he had to fly ahead due to time restraints on his other projects. I had a month to enjoy the beautiful scenery and a chance to drive this 4runner that he often raves about. He rambled how nice it drove when he first bought it, how tough it was compared to my Chevy, how a body on frame was durable enough to conquer the mountains of Colorado, the heat in Texas, and the sands and dunes of Baja California. I don't know none of those things, but I do know this tiny engine V6 was adequate to tow the trailer, gets 17mpg and tiny fuel tank of 24 gallons or less since im always fueling this beast, but it does run silky smooth for 3k plus miles. I took some detours like Vegas, Detroit, Houston, and Orlando to visit friends and family. In Florida, one of my best friends allowed me to change the tranny fluid in his garage and we both laughed how complicated it was since we had to use measuring cups and pumps and funnels and buy metric tools since we just don't own anything requiring metric tools...tranny oil was pitch black. We just shook our heads. Special Toyota tranny oil we had to purchase as well. Drain and Fill required a little less than 4.5 quarts. Everything else on the truck needed nothing since my son must have completed them, so proud of him. I completed my journey finally with a smile on my face. I understand why Toyota 4runner owners spoke proudly of their rigs. They run like champs and this Limited edition was very very comfortable with all those gadgets that I learned how to use with the owners manual. I didn't know it was an AWD version, no wonder it navigates so smoothly on pack snow in New York. I'm behind the times I admit.

2nd 4-runner in three years
This is the 2nd 4-runner I have purchased & while there is a lot to like about the new one. Reliability is the number one reason to buy this vehicle. The brakes are much more grabby. The 270 hp engine is not as powerful as my 07. The ride is harsher than my 07 because of the Dunlap tires on the new one, I believe. The 07 had Michelin that lasted 90,000 miles & thats what I will switch to when these wear out. The 07 had auto assist tailgate; the new one is manual & a bigger heavier door.
A truly American SUV
My 6th 4runner since 1989 and my last. Toyota got its wish, they are now an American car company. Cheapest, poorest example of a 4Runner i have bought. compared to my previous 5 there is no comparison. Go by something else don't waste 40 grand like me
