A Different Take -- At The End Of 3 Year Lease
I got my Model 3 in August 2020 and I'm turning it in this weekend at the end of the lease. We all know that when you get a car you really like and you really want to get, your point of view is skewed quite a bit. 6 months and your view changes. 3 years and it's about as realistic as it can get. This car is nearly perfect or absolutely perfect in so many respects. It's the best sports car or sedan I've ever driven and I sold cars in the past, so I've driven a lot of different cars. The quality of the car is very nearly top notch. The maintenance required is so ridiculously minimal that I still don't quite consider it to be a car or automobile, really. Everything I learned when I was young that you had to do to maintain your car is completely out the window with this car, except for standard tire maintenance. The reliability is way higher than I expected when I got it, being a first-time EV owner. The sound of the audio and quiet of the cabin was exceptional. So, in 3 years, what problems did I have? Let's go from most to least problematic: Tesla replaced the steering wheel after about 1.5-2 years, after the "skin" started sliding off and tore on the upper left. They came right out to my house to do that. Apparently it was common, but it was very weird. At the same time, they fixed and/or replaced some wiring/cable harness in the trunk. I don't know if it's related, but at about 2.5 years, when we had massive rains the entire winter in California, I opened the trunk one morning to find a pool of water (3 inches wide) in the trunk liner. Lucky I had that, so no real cleanup required. The "frunk" lid always squeaked a bit and seemed a bit cheap when opening and closing it, but it always worked. By 3 years, I had about 5-10 paint chips all over the front of the vehicle, about 1-2mm wide. It seemed easy to chip. Also, had about a half dozen discolorations on the paint, but maybe I didn't "baby" it as I should have. They were the kind of thing you would only notice as you're looking closely while washing the vehicle. About 2-4 times a month, the main tablet interface needed a reboot because it would stop acting normal. Not a big deal since you can drive like normal even when that's rebooting, but it was annoying to have occasional app and sound glitches happen. The collision avoidance system is VERY jarring and very over-sensitive. 95% of the time, I'm nowhere near having a collision when it shocks everyone in the car. I'm sure it can be adjusted, but it did in fact stop me from having two actual collisions (I think, since it stopped them from happening), so I left it alone just to be safe. Compare this to a BMW 3 series and Volvo wagon I had owned in the past and the Tesla is head and shoulders above them in problems and quirks. Mercedes? Don't even go there. Compare to Toyota and VW vehicles, which we've owned many over the past 30 years? Tesla is better in some ways, worse in others. Bottom line, I'm quite sure the current 2023 version of this Tesla is noticeably better than this one I'm returning, the same way this one was better than the 2018's (as I've been told). The software has improved in many ways while I've had it.

Best car ever!
We loved this Tesla, so much, we immediately went out and got another...nothing like it! We discussed with several other friends who then went on to purchase their own Tesla!

Fantastic car to drive
Fantastic car to drive. Great handling and acceleration I got the acceleration boost and this is as fast as almost every other car out there. I also just got enhanced autopilot which makes highway driving very easy as the car does the driving. I wanted the performance model but didn't want the larger wheels Great safety features Great for commuting and road trips No range anxiety as the trip routing will plan for Superchargers along the route Fantastic sound system. Plenty of room. I helped my daughter move and packed a lot in the car-don't need a SUV really withe the seats down For where I live, the economics are compelling- no sales tax and a rebate too What's also amazing is the continued upgrades thru software upgrades make existing cars as good as new. Charging at home is easy if you have a nema outlet nearby My only complaints are No Apple car play or android auto No Xm or Sirius radio (but the streaming options are good) I would have preferred blind spot monitoring in the side mirrors but that's minor

My best car - ever.
After a year and a half of ownership (but not too much driving due to the pandemic) I have to say this is the best car I have ever owned. It is a joy to drive and I find it economical as well as environmentally friendly. I don't have solar panels and my coop electrical supply is only moderately priced with no discount for off-peak EV charging, but my auto budget is significantly lower now. I happily recommend Tesla to anyone interested (and offer a test drive).
