OIL CHANGE EVERY 400 MILES

Bought Brand New for my Daughter, her first trip was from San diego to Las Vegas, she called when she got to Bakers Field 4 hours away, saying her Oil light was on, Car was only a couple weeks old, and she had to stop in some little town to get a quart of oil which is worrysome for a parent when their teen is driving their first long drive, Also Happened on the way back, I called Subaru, and they told me this was normal oil consumption, She did a consumption test at the subaru dealership, and they also told her this is normal, So every 400 miles the light comes on and its a quart low. We bought it in 2014 Brand new and have been dealing with this ever since , 2022 Water Pump went out, we are good about keeping it serviced. my Mechanic told me to get rid of it, because in the 2014, the Head Gaskets don't last that long.

A long time Toytoa/Scion owner, I was likely spoiled by the trouble free ownership that brand provided. Once Toyota redesigned their lines, and headroom was compromised in the RAV4, I went with the boxier 2014 Forester, purchased used in 2016. I wanted to love the car, and keep it forever. The fuel economy, handling, headroom, visibility, are all excellent. However, within months, rear wheel bearings and rear suspension literally fell apart. (Subaru refunded cost, but come on. ) Then, once summer arrived, I realized how inadequate the ac was. Another repair. Then the transmission needed work, at 75k miles. Subaru's extended warranty covered cost. All this occurred within a few years. I traded it in as fast as I could. Went with honda, so we shall see.

I have a 2014 Subaru Forester and love it! But, I can echo some of the oil issues. But mine have been minor comparatively. A few times in the last three years the low oil light has come on just before I was about to take it in for routine maintenance anyway. I keep a qt in the back and have topped it off apx 3 times since I bought it. When I learned about the class action lawsuit against Subaru I was quite upset and wrote my car off. I took it to the dealership and they gave me a pamphlet about oil consumption that was kind of pathetic. I know how to check the oil in any car and I expect that any modern car doesn't need that type of attention. I also expect that Subaru (to which I have friends and family that have had several different models that lasted for way over 200k miles) won't ever have a silly issue like this. However, that was 2 years ago and at almost 45k my Forester has been a champ. I also got an extended powertrain warranty from Subaru on my Forester for 8 years /100,000 miles as a result of the lawsuit. So if you buy this car used that should transfer from what I am to understand. This also gave me some much needed confidence back in the model and the brand. All this aside, the MPG are amazing for an AWD car, the interior is roomy and well appointed, it has great acceleration and it has gotten us through some tough snow and adverse weather situations safe and sound. Overall I am quite happy with my Forester and plan to keep it for a very long time. Now that the oil issue is out in the open and many cars have been updated I would highly recommend the Forester. Because without this one issue (albeit, a bad one for a few owners) this is one amazing car.

This is my first Subaru and my first AWD vehicle. I have driven other AWD cars before from Ford on test drives but nothing beats Subaru's AWD system.There are youtube videos showing why this is and why their system is head and shoulders better than other's. -Gas Mileage: I will report back on this again after more miles are put on it. But right now driving around the city running errands I average 26.7 MPG. Well within the advertised range. -Powertrain: I am shocked at how fast this vehicle accelerates off the line. Because of the CVT transmission it is able to perform like V6 powered cars I have owned in the past. Plenty of power. Much more than our 2010 Chevy Equinox.
