The 2022 Taycan represents Porsche's foray into the electric vehicle space, and it does not disappoint. The Taycan is a technological masterpiece that manages to deliver incredible comfort and effortless driving one moment and then, with the twist of a knob, world-beating performance the next. How one car can do both so well is a little baffling.

But all that technology and capability comes at a high price. The Taycan is not cheap, and we found some of Porsche's touchscreen tech to be needlessly complicated — Luddites, steer clear.

What is the Porsche Taycan?

The Porsche Taycan is a luxury electric sedan and the brand's first electric vehicle. The 2021 Taycan is our top pick in the class, followed by the Tesla Model 3 and Model S, respectively. Our editors are impressed by the Taycan's ability to operate comfortably as a daily driver and deliver world-beating performance with the press of a button. When it comes to range, the EPA estimates the base-model Taycan can go about 200 miles while the larger-battery model can cover up to about 227 miles. And in our experience, we've been able to drive significantly farther than the EPA estimates.

Since the Taycan just hit the market two years ago, we won't see many major changes to the 2022 model. That doesn't mean there aren't upgrades in store, however. The biggest news is that Android Auto (finally) comes to the Taycan this year. It requires plugging in via the USB-C port (in contrast to Apple CarPlay, which supports a wireless connection), but owners of either smartphone type will now enjoy an integrated experience. The Taycan also now offers a Remote Park Assist option, which allows owners to park the SUV from outside the vehicle using their smartphone. Finally, the new Turbo Charging Planner is said to decrease charging times by allowing rapid charging sooner after the vehicle is first plugged in.

Edmunds says

If you have an Android-based smartphone, it's worth waiting for this year's model because the 2022 Porsche Taycan finally adds Android Auto compatibility. If you're an Apple user, there's really no reason to not buy a 2021 Taycan instead, especially if you can score a killer deal.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers taxpayers a Used Clean Vehicle Tax Credit equal to 30% of the sale price up to a maximum credit of $4,000 for the purchase of a used plug-in electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Beginning January 1, 2024, Clean Vehicle Tax Credits may be initiated and approved at the point of sale at participating dealerships registered with the IRS. Dealers will be responsible for submitting Clean Vehicle Tax Credit information to the IRS. Buyers are advised to obtain a copy of an IRS "time of sale" report, confirming it was submitted successfully by the dealer. Not every version of the vehicle models will necessarily qualify. Please check with the dealer/seller to determine the eligibility of your specific vehicle.

For the vehicle to qualify:
- Price cannot exceed $25,000.
- Need to verify the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
- Must be at least two model years older than the current calendar year in which the vehicle was purchased.
- Must be sold through a dealership, private sales not permitted.
- Not have already been transferred after August 16, 2022, to a qualified buyer.
For individuals to qualify:
- Must meet income eligibility, depending on modified adjusted gross income (AGI) and tax filing status.
- Must not be the first owner of the qualifying vehicle.
- Has not been allowed a credit under this section for any sale during the 3-year period ending on the date of the sale of such vehicle.
- Purchased for personal use, not a business, corporation or for resale.

Be wise!!! Make sure you speak with actual Taycan owners before you buy. This is the inaugural year and there’s been nothing but problems. My car has been in the service garage almost 1/2 of the time I’ve owned it. SOFTWARE issues is all I hear when I inquire as I continue to make my monthly payments without having my car. I’ve had my Taycan turbo for 12 months. Worse car ownership ever. Now needs main battery replacement. They can’t give me an ETA for delivery of the part. Continuous software issues, rattles, error messages. Porsche support awful. Continue to ship new cars knowing there are major faults. Check current owners many having similar issues
