Used 2005 Nissan Altima Consumer Reviews
Twenty-three K and broken
WOW! Was excellent car. At 8000 miles rear tires wore out. Service tech advised that along with each 6000 mile tire rotation 4 wheel alignment should be preformed. Dealership replaced the 2 worn out rear tires with new ones same brand Bridgestone Turanza's. This car should have premium Michelins on it. Now 01-07-07 engine knocks. Metal on metal grinding in engine. Oil change reveals metal chunks and metal filings in oil. Dealership advised Nissan of problem. Nissan has authorized NEW engine replacement only because remanufactured engine not available. This car was never abused. Any faith or trust that this car brand would be relatively good reliable car is shattered. NEVER AGAIN! NO NISSAN's
Engine Won't Last
Loved driving the 3.5SE...for four years and 67,000 miles. Then the timing chain began whining. Nissan covered the $2,400 repair since it was a known issue (see Technical Service Bulletin). 8 months and 12,000 miles later, I noticed my oil level was low. Seeing no leaks, I tracked the oil level over the next couple of months. At 89,000 miles, dealer determined that engine was burning 1 1/2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles! Offered to replace engine for $6,600 my cost. Nissan refuses assistance since they already took care of timing chain (to me, kind of irrelevant now). This on a car with all scheduled maintenance receipts. Better have an extended warranty or dump car before it's junk.

What a fine car
Tested the Accord V6, Camry XLE, and Altima. Although the Camry got the nod in the fit, finish and overall comfort, it was no contest in the performance test. (Accord was close, and it does have XFM.) Having driven the Altima for about three weeks now only confirms the choice. It is a blast to drive. Solid on the interstate, in the city, and winding roads (CO 93 from Boulder to Golden). My wife absolutely loves it; she can't believe the performance and handling. It has instant power all throughout the range. The seats are really comfortable and I just can't believe the amount of interior space. The front passenger area is especially cavernous. What a fine car!
50k I still like it.
Bought the car new. It had a strange squeak in front end, dealership eventually found and fixed it. I have had absolutely no mechanical issues w/ the car. I love the power of the 2.5L for the size of the car. I love that it has a big-car-feel when driving but has some economy aspects such as gas mileage. The ride is a little mushy w/ 4 adults, good w/ 2. Interior plastic could be of better quality but, for my experience w/ this car, the engine, size, comfort, fuel economy and price make it more affordable than the accord (which I test drove and found it rode as stiff and bumpy and my sportbike; gut jarring). I am going to sell it because its just that time, but I will miss it very much
4 years and still happy
I bought my 3.5 SE new in 2005. I only have 28000 miles but I have had very few problems. The car has only been in the shop for routine maintenance. However, in march of 2009 I had to replace my battery. I have heard of others with this problem. Overall I am happy. The 3.5 engine has a lot of power. This is fun at stop lights and has gotten me out of a few jams on the freeway. The complaints about the road noise (esp in the back), turning radius, and cheap interior are valid. They are not prohibitive however. I live in DC now so the turning radius is more pronounced. I have taking this car on 400 mile trips (I can get 33 mpg on the highway) and have been completely satisfied.
