Extraordinary Automobile!

My 2009 E320 BlueTec is a superb automobile. Subtle yet classy styling (black exterior/interior/wood trimmed steering wheel) that always draws compliments. Extraordinary performance (400 ft-lbs of torque mean effortless acceleration - the power surge is like a locomotive). Unbelievable economy (I'm averaging 33 mpg over 25,000 miles of mixed city/highway driving in the Washington DC area). Comfortably seats four adults - meaning large adults! - and can accommodate five. Huge trunk. Smooth, quick, confidence- inspiring, so solid it literally feels like a single piece of steel. This car is an absolute bargain and I never thought I'd say that about a $50K purchase.

The Mercedes E 320 Blue Tec is a refined luxury sedan that is coupled with extraordinary fuel economy. The Blue Tec diesel engine provides excellent power and acceleration. The car is very comfortable with a luxury interior and the Mercedes i-Command system is easy to use and conveniently placed in the cockpit. The standard sound system is also great. This is the first diesel vehicle that I ever purchased and it won't be my last. It gets better fuel economy that the comparable Lexus hybrid. Test drive it, you'll buy it.

I bought the E320 through USAA buying service through a professionally run dealership-American Service Center- Alexandria, VA. I impressed by the cars looks, engineering, fuel economy, and the torque of the turbo-diesel--it gets up and goes. The quality of the car and its materials are evident. While the controls are well-place and intuitive, this is not the case in the Command/NAV interface. In particular, the voice commands do not measure up to the technology in less expensive Japanese and Korean cars. The USAA buying service combined with Mercedes incentives made the car more affordable- -a once in a life time purchase--maybe not. I love this car.

A very solid car but horrible nav system

Bought car because of incentives (with premium I package paid only $39k AND got 2.9% financing for 5.5 years, plus sales tax write-off)! The car feels extremely solid and stable and has a remarkable balance of comfort and sporty driving characteristics that few other cars can match. Interior and exterior design are very nice and materials and assembly are first rate. However, vinyl seats are totally out of place in car with MSRP of 57k. They are extremely uncomfortable (sweat inducing and sticky when less than 40 degrees F). Navigation system is a nightmare, too. Nothing is intuitive or easy and even after studying manual for hours the system is still fury inducing.

I am very finneky about maintaining my cars and this has beena very good experience. It does have some quirks like the window washer motor but overall excellent quality. Recently saw some challenges with tires and alignment. Dealership says to check every 10k miles. Does not have camber adjustment so the inner tires get worn faster

Close a door on any Mercedes and then close a door on any other car in its class and you will know a Mercedes is a work of art. We started with a 2002 C320 with a luxury package and discovered the joy of driving a well made automobile. When is was struck in the rear by a car running 55 miles per hour and my wife walked away we bought a new 2009 E350 4Matic with a luxury package and are still enjoying driving it today. Both cars were/are great road machines . We always kept on maintenance schedules and have not had any issues. We didn't have 100K on the C class when it was totaled and now have 135K on the E class. The E class runs and drives as well today as it did the day we bought it. The same was true for the C class.

168k miles and running like a champ!

Pros: We have owned our 2009 Mercedes-Benz E350 4matic wagon since March. Even though we had to replace the two rear air suspension bags and have had a couple of problems, the engine has never let us down once (knock on wood). Having this many miles on the odometer might scare some people but being a mercedes it is meant to last over 300k miles. It still has a smooth idle and starts up like any other car at 60k miles. I love how solid the car is, especially the timeless design that reminds me of a classic mercedes! Also the handling is surprisingly very good, which is almost to BMW standards (in sport mode). I could go on for hours about how much I love this car!!! Cons: The gas mileage is not the best around the city, I average about 17 gallons in the city. On the highway, I usally average about 22 miles per gallon which is pretty good. The interior design is very complicated at first and is hard to understand, once you get comfortable with it it is still very distracting. the audio system could be better but it is almost 10 years old. Love this station wagon so much and hope to keep for a long time!

2009 E350 RWD Review

I bought a new 2009 E350 due to the massive incentives, both dealer and financing subsidies in July 2009. If the subsidies did not decrease the price by over 33%, I would not have bought the vehicle. Also, the 2009 fixed a lot of the prior model year issues (e.g., COMMAND problems), and a lot of options (iPod, bluetooth, DVD) were now free. At this price point, the deal was a steal. Coming from an Infiniti G (more hp and faster), I like my change.

German engineering is over the top!

Having always owned BMW's (since the 60's) and learning how to maintain and fix them, I've enjoyed German quality and engineering. However, of late, they have become so sophisticated, I no longer have the ability to do any work on my cars, which I enjoy doing. My wife had always wanted a Mercedes wagon and we found a very low mileage single owner 2009 E350 4Matic wagon and bought it. We mostly use it for trips and enjoy its comfort on the highway. Although it isn't fuel efficient, it does perform well. From the first day, we have been unable to figure out how the Navigation system works (glad to have Waze on our smartphones). The sound system is equally challenging to operate. The trip info on the dashboard is hard to read and understand when driving (too much info). Our fan motor has a squeaky bearing ($450 to replace). At 65,000 miles we have learned the rear differential needs replacement ($3,500). Compared to my BMW's, I am disappointed with this car. The local dealer is sells "units", not cars. For someone who has been a lifelong car enthusiast, I'm not fond of the dealer or the brand.

Vinyl vs Leather

Addressing the vinyl vs leather for such expensive vehicles, please note that Mercedes has a long history of offering the best vinyl seating ever made, which is better than most cars leather. For some reason Americans equate leather with luxury. In Europe many of the Mercedes sold have cloth/velour seating. A final note on the vinyl, you'll be very happy to have the vinyl 30 years from now when your E class interior looks almost as new. History and tradition are alive at Mercedes.

Outstanding comfort, ride and performance. Bullet proof buid quaklity. If you have the means...go out today and buy an 09. The 56K price tag new has now depreciated to 35K. Pick a ,low mileage version and your at auto nirvana. Then, go buy a black mock turtleneck, add jeans and your favorite shoes and start cruising. Bad wheel quality on MB E350

QBY, 06/26/2010

We bought one certified pre-owned 2009 E350 at MB Encino, California on 3/27/2010. Only drive about one month and 860 miles, there is a front tire pressure problem that was caused by a crack inside of the wheel (rim). We drive this new car very carefully, never hit anything since there is no damage on the outside wheel, also how to we hit or damage inside of the wheel? That is a parts quality problem. MB's warranty should cover it but they don't. Please think about MB's wheel quality, before you plan to purchase a MB, since we found couple cases report about it already. Also, MB's customer service is not friendly, do not answer customer phone call, and do not care customer concern.

I just bought my new 2009 Mercedes- Benz E 350 on July 31st. I absolutely love my new car. My past Mercedes included a 1999 C 230 and a 2006 C 230 and my dream has always been to own an E Class. Back in 2003 when Mercedes changed the body style I thought it was the most beautiful car I’d ever seen. I still feel that way about it. The car just has great lines and the interior is absolutely gorgeous. The handling and horsepower is just amazing. The fit and finish is exactly what you would expect from Mercedes- Benz. The quality and workmanship is way beyond what you get in an American or Japanese car. The deal I got on the 2009 was incredible. Ask me and I’ll tell you about it.

We currently have a 2009 Mercedes Wagon with 15k miles on it. Also for context we have a Toyota mini-van and a Prius. This current wagon only seems special when you are on the highway. There it is in it's element. Extremely smooth, quiet yet with the classic German feel. Other than price it isn't much different from the Toyotas. Overall build quality actually seems to be less than the Toyotas I am sad to say. We have had a number of minor problems with the electrical and mechanical systems. The CD player still doesn't work. The right windshield wiper stopped working etc. In general it seems as the though the car is several years behind the competitors in features.

2009 was a good year when compared to earlier versions. I have only had it a week, so can't weigh in on this particular car yet. Haven't had time to get to my mechanic for the check up. The dealer refused to give me a fair price for my trade, and only a fair deal on the purchase. She wouldn't wiggle on purchase price. May 2017 - I had to sign away any right of redress if a problem is found. Most of the many papers signed were protection for the dealer. Their sign should read: Make the sale and forget the buyer. I would not use this used car dealer again. She claimed to know more about my trade in that she only saw once. than the car she was selling. May 2018- Had it for a year now. At first servicing, it was found to have a broker windshield washer part that holds the washing liquid ($300 fix), a cracked speaker and cracked rim. June 2020. Still running well. The dealer concealed so much. Gas tank cracked, washer fluid holder crack, one rim cracked, one speaker cracked. Can't wait for the next find. DO STAY CLEAR OF AUTONIQUE IN OCEANSIDE, CA

Terrible vehicle, worst I've ever had. Bought used. First, the oil cooler gasket was made with improper material to handle the heat generated by a turbo diesel. That was a $3,000 repair, with only 120k miles! Sunroof stopped working also, an $800 repair. Warning lights go off like crazy, sensors always go out. Just found out the inlet port shutoff motor needs replaced, there goes another $3,000. Also I have several 02 sensors out to the tune of $900. That doesn't include a variety of minor stuff that has added up to thousands of dollars. I would sell this piece of garbage but I would feel too guilty passing this off on some poor unsuspecting sucker. I was a fool...I wouldn't do this to my worst enemy. BTW I own a 1986 300SDL turbo diesel, BEST car I've ever owned. Still reliable after 400k + miles with great mileage and low maintenance. Mercedes, where oh where did you go wrong?!!?

Questionable Build Quality on BlueTec

This was my first Mercedes purchase; a Japanese car loyalist up til this purchase. Car drives amazing & gas mileage is great for this size car. I averaged 29 mpg combined. However, build quality is a DISASTER. Literally, on evening home from dealership the night of purchase, the left headlight went out and I received an LCD error warning about headlight failure. Took it back to dealership and 3 days in shop w/$3200 bill (under warranty). The C series loaner I got had same headlight failure during loaner period. At 5,900 the BlueTec's power steering failed while driving and I almost wrecked; steering wheel wouldn't turn. Car towed back to dealership by MB - 5 days in shop. NIGHTMARE!

Sold my 04 BMW 325 conv. and got this as my upgrade. I bought it from Rallye Motors in L.I. from Marianne. Great dealer and she was great. My other car is a 08 G35. This Benz is beautiful. It rides and drives like a dream. So smooth. Quiet. Comfortable. It's a pure pleasure to drive. Only owned it 3 months but it's thus far the best car I ever owned. They did a nice job with this car.

Considered many cars in this segment including Hyundai Genesis. However picked Benz just based on badge and low price. Yes, although MSRP is high you can buy E class much cheaper. My version was with 18” wheels so suspension feels quite stiff and handling is reasonable well. Small turn radius. First look inside gives feeling of luxury. Exterior is the best looking in the segment. However if you look more closely to the car you will find that Mercedes is slipping. Standard seats are just vinyl. Leather is expensive option. No right hand rest place. Awkward storages. A lot of modern electronics which has buggy software and cumbersome user interface. Sound quality is reasonable good.

The car is beautifully crafted with subtle elegance. The AWD worked superbly in snow and ice. The vehicle is quiet, responsive, and thoughtfully designed, inside and out. The voice command system is a marvel and requires little more than a quick read through the manual. Like other buyers, I would have expected leather at this price. That is the one area where MB falls short.

This car is marvelous! The styling with the sport package is great, it drives very well, and is comfortable. The 350 V6 has as much horsepower as my old Mercedes 430 V8. It's plenty fast and I get 20 MPG. It feels as stable and strong as a bank vault, but drives quick and nimble too. The climate control system and 7-channel audio system also are great. My only gripe is with the nav system. It's a pain to use and the screen is too small.

Since purchasing my E350 in June 2009, the engine has failed twice. The interior rattles causing annoyance. The car has been back into the garage for noises coming from rear and still has not been resolved by the garage. To be honest with you I am totally fed up with this car as it has caused me so much inconvenience in time and money. Furthermore this car is totally useless in snow conditions because it is rear wheel drive. I strongly recommend consumers not to buy this model. If the garage i bought this vehicle from does not do anything soon then i will be taking further action against mercedes. They certainly do not live up to their name.

One of the best E Class sedans in the history of the E 350. Timeless in style. A dream to drive. I am kicking myself for not buying it. It’s like no other and extremely hard to find one of these for sale. At 68,000 miles and one owner, $12,000 it was a rare find. Outside of the outdated electronics and fuel economy it’s truly amazing. My favorite part it’s one of the last years where the three pointed star was sitting on the end of the hood leading the way. Karl would be proud, and Berta too. My KISMET. Own the true original.

Never buy a mercedes unless you want to overpay for a completely unreliable vehicle. Buying one is like losing money, and keeping one is like throwing good money after bad! I bought a brand new 2009 E350. Six months of ownership, and 3 problems, 2 trips to the shop, 1 tow, 1 battery recharge...and worse of all, tons of aggravation and frustration dealing with Mercedes Benz.

I've owned S class and E and CL class Mercedes over the years, including a 2008 E Class Sport and this new 2009 E Class Sport. The pricing of the 2009 E Class is like having a "Bird in the hand and two in the bush." A great deal can be had right now, say $10,000 off sticker; how does that sound? Now you're getting a outstanding sedan at a price you can't beat. Yes, there's a new body style E Class coming out in July, but how can you pass up the 2009? Comparing my 2009 to my 2008, there have been significant improvements, including AMG package free with the no charge Sport option, 18 inch wheels, and shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Command system with NAV is much improved.

This really is a fantastic car. The cargo hold is massive for a mid-size vehicle and interior passenger space is impressive plus it is really quite easy to get a child seat attached in the rear seat with little issue and it fits very firmly. The car is a blast to drive when you push it (no wagon should be this fast or corner this well). The build quality is also fantastic with super-soft leather and fantastic fit and finish. Gas mileage is also remarkably decent for a 507-hp V8.

I bought it CPO in 2013 with 33,000 miles on it. It has AMG break and suspension. It did require some minor repair but overall it has been great. I have a very trusted garage that fixes only Mercedes cars and they really did magic to make my car runs even better. I put in a bottle of Chervon injection system cleaner every 6 months and now it is very quiet and smooth. It is a keeper.

Since this is the last year of the w211 body style, Mercedes is offering decent subsidizes incentives to move vehicles. The body is pretty much the same since 03 with a few modified faclifts. The No charge sport package adds some flair to the pretty stagnent body. The gipe I have with Mercedes is the lack of standard leather interior on car that starts at almost 52k. Vinyl belong in economy cars, Not in a Mercedes Benz!.

A car I have fallin in love with. When driving it seems the car is an extension of my body. Easy to drive and all controls make sense. The best car I've ever owned.

E350 4-matic is a great all rounder

I recently leased a silver E350 4- matic with the Premium pkg 1 and AMG sport appearance package and boy was it a great all rounder. It has great looks(courtesy AMG package), adequate performance(0 -60 in ~6 secs), and mileage(17-18MPG City), Advanced Tech features such as Voice activated Navigation, IPOD interface, Rain sensing wipers. Also the multi information display is right in front of you on the speedo which is a nice feature since you don't have to take your eyes off the road. I live in Colorado and wanted the 4-matic and i think that was a good decision. We had a couple of snow (spring)storms here and AWD worked just fine. The trick is to use the "C" setting for the transmission.

Improvement over the 2008 E350

I traded my 08 E350 Sport for a 2009 E350 sport mainly to upgrade to the new, faster electronics and music. I found no major driving differences, however the HD radio, the NAV system, the Voice Command and the increased response speed for all technology functions is amazing. There is almost nothing you can't do with the voice command system. It even has a training module to improve the voice command's understanding of your input language. Smooth ride and handling are accomplished with the sport suspension. Since I had no problems with my 08, the 09 is just icing on the cake.
