Still going strong/Update

I bought my ‘93 MX-6 from an elderly woman , complete with all service records ,who , yes, only drove it on weekends and short trips. She was the only owner, and the car had 75,000 miles on it.She originally was going to give it to her Grandson, but decided it was way to fast for his first car. Other than cv joints, this car, inside and out has been amazing. Very quick acceleration , corner handing is smooth and even invites acceleration around a corner, holding its line perfectly. Update: After driving this MX-6 for roughly two thousand miles in less than two years, I still maintain my 5 star rating in all categories, but with a caveat: this is a performance car, and in my opinion (with engine power, stock set up and premium fuel) is not “necessarily” a daily driver . I say this because the car, though a beautiful driver requires attention to mechanical detail to keep it up. Not just because it’s a ‘93, but because parts are scarce and repairs (unless you are skilled with this Mazda engine) can be costly. Continuous and meticulous maintenance will always be required to keep the MX-6 driving as intended. Is it worth the time and expense? Yes... just ask any of the subculture MX-6 fanatics (I use that term as a compliment) that passionately work on their own cars with such surgical precision as to get those infrequent but amazingly enjoyable and exhilarating weekend drives. Why so much dedication? Drive one... just once, and you’ll understand completely. Second update : It’s 2020 and I still am driving my 1993 Mazda MX-6 , albeit only about 250/ miles/month. This gem of a car continues to impress me with its performance. With only 78,600 original miles and all of the service records from when she was new, I’ve hadno mechanical issues. I’ve replaced the tires and had an oil change. The handling is perfect and holds its line into a curve. These cars are getting scarce, and picking up one in great shape can be more of a challenge than it’ made out to be.

I love this car. It looks great and is fast enough for me I've been getting about 18 MPG City and as high as 33 MPG on the highway. I keep the car as God intended it. Just added a Hood Bra, SUNROOF WIND DEFLECTOR NEW and Headlight Covers.

The second gen MX-6, with its unique looks and sporty handling, enjoys a small but loyal following nearly two decades after it was discontinued in 1997. I bought mine with 93,000 miles, put another 20,000 on the clock (which included a NY-CA round trip), and sold it for what I paid without incurring any major expenses. I liked it a lot and actually felt a twinge of seller's remorse when I let it go. Since it shares the same underpinnings as the Ford Probe, replacement parts are inexpensive and not hard to find. It's basically a reliable and fun ride with a few quirks. Offers great bang for your buck, but they're getting harder to find in good condition as time goes on.

Bought my 93 MX-6 with 80,000 miles 2 years ago. Car has given me no problems at all. Acceleration is quite good (0- 60 in about 7.3 sec) Braking and handling are very good. Comfort is alright but actually quite nice for it's class. Some minor electrical bugs have creeped up but are just annoying (washer light wont turn off) Fuel economy is actually far better than advertised (26-29 mpg-mostly highway) Luggage space is more than enough. Rear is a bit small, but hey-it's a sports coupe not an SUV!!!! A manual is a must in this car.

I purchased this car from a family member for $1, and it runs like I paid $20,000 for it. Running it at 65 mph average speed, I get 36 mpg. Running at 80 mph, I still get as much as 34 mpg. As far as mechanical problems go, I have yet to have any, and the engine is still as powerful as the first day on the road. The car also gets attention because there are not many left on the streets anymore. At the current selling value of $2,000, if you see one, grab it. The money you will save in fuel costs is outstanding.

Bought this car brand new in 1993..came fully loaded..including CD player in '93...was not common in cars then. Never had a single regret..love this car..lots of power, good control (low center of gravity)..great quality...Did not do any major work...just regular maintenance....Do not believe there is any car on the market that would provide the same qualities such as great handling (especially manual drive), fuel economy, reliability, looks, comfort, power...

Have always been a Dodge and Pontiac girl, until 1998, when I drove my first Mazda mx6, it was love at first gear! About a year ago my lil pretty was park outside my home, whem a van came along and totaled her out, I cried like a baby! She had never given me a problem in 10 years despite her 180,000 miles. She drove me and my daughter safely 2000 miles to my mothers funeral just a month before, all the way we drove 80-90mph! Last week for my 50th birthday I found another, same great speed, head turning style and ageless beauty, the legend lives on......ZOOM ZOOM!!

Got it close to 90,000 miles. Had a ton of things wrong. The radiator, the Steering system, the clutch went bad the wheel bearings went bad and made terrible noises. Anyway when I got all that fixed, the car gave me two solid years (except for a timing belt). Then came the problems again, Struts, Speedometer, Starter, Horn, Airbag, moonroof blablabla. I just kept on driving with those problems. The drive wasn't bad and I do like the 2.5. Great gas mileage and very smooth. Could pick up some speed too if I needed it. Would go to 130 in a heartbeat though 140 would take a while!. In short, a good looking car with a good engine but a mechanical nightmare!

Bought this beauty two yrs ago and only parted with her because I needed four doors. The only mechanical issue I really had with this car was an overheating problem, due to the extreme abuse she put up with and all the seals needed replaced. This car LOVES to go faster, never happier than when she's accelerating, even at 80mph!(I've had both the 4 cyl and the 6 cyl and they're both the same) The shifting couldn't be smoother. The exterior looks great too, despite being her age... And around the curves you couldn't find a grippier ride. Thank you, Mazda I will be looking for another mx6 in the future :)

I've owned 3 of these cars over the course of a decade, with the most recent one being a 93 LS with 130k on the clock. replaced CV's and boots on front axle immediately as they were bad, then drove it for 4 yrs without doing a SINGLE thing to it, no maintenance, no repairs. (except a cracked radiator tank, my fault. That took me all of 10 minutes to replace) the car ran like a screaming banshee, always and never left me stranded. sold it for $900 (paid $1,000) and the person who bought it drives it almost 400 miles a week for work. still runs strong and has given him no problems.

I just read the other reviews and felt like part of a great big MX6 fan club. I bought my red MX6-LS brand new in June of 1993 and have a hard time letting go of it (thinkin maybe it's time to sell it). It has been completely reliable and so much fun to drive. I still love how it looks and would definitely buy another one if they still made it. MAZDA BRING EM BACK!!!!

This car is a blast to drive, but it is very unpractical for day to day driving. If you're tall or long- legged, it's a hassle to get in and out of. Maintenance is expensive. I hate driving it on the highway because it's sooooo low to the ground.

I baought this car in 2000 around thanksgiving for $2500 (great deal). After driving an '88 4cylnd. civic, this car is heaven. Great speed and responsiveness. I bought mine with 158k and have had no major engine problems. I replaced the clutch 2 weeks after purchase but that was expected.Sunroof has had a fews problems and suspension is not so great, but it is a sports car. I only wish they still produced them.

I bought my V6 LS coupe brand new in 93. Love the look and the handling....clutch was too tall to drag at the lights. My biggest complaint is parts and maintenance are really expensive. I hate it whenever I have to take it to the shop but still like it too much to get rid of it.

Fun car to drive and the seats really hold you in place tight! This car has Good power decent handling, and it is stil one of the best looking, yet affordable cars I've ever seen!! One drawback is that this car is not for anyone over six feet tall because there is not enough leg room. Pretty reliable too, despite the brake issue I've had. I've had it for 5 years, and it's still going strong even with 121,000 miles on it.

I bought this car in Oct. 2002, and ever since then, I've beat every car just about on the road. This car is fast, reliable, and really good looking. Who could ask for more? I've put 10000 miles on it so far, and the only thing wrong with it is the O2 sensor (I drive it hard as hell too). This car gets me where I want to go, and I see no reason that this already 11 year old car with only 80,000 miles on it shouldn't get me around for a couple of more years. I must input though, I have the J-spec (Japanese motor) in mine, so its got 200 hp. I LOVE THIS CAR!

I purchased the MX6 coupe from my aunt back in December of 2007; she was the original owner. Everything on this car was designed well, except for the 138-hp Inline-4 engine. A sports car should be a little more powerful, but it still runs like a dream. I'm getting about 32mpg on mid-grade fuel. The design of the car looks nice, but all models should have included the spoiler. After 138,000 miles most of the car is still in great shape. The real axle was replaced two years ago as it completely snapped in the snow. Other than that, the car runs great and is still getting attention. It's a car that isn't seen frequently anymore.

i use to have a jeep, and whenever another cj went by the peace sign was swapped. same with the mx6 i found out. its cuz we all know what a secret. yeah the seats are awesome, sound system only needed a new tuner, and i can fit 12' boards due to the pass through. it has ageless design. had problems with e-brake, keys breaking off in doors, some dash lights out, antenna motor, ball/cv joints and sunroof track. replacement parts and labor are outrageous. have paid more in repairs than its worth, however, i will never NOT have this car. so i should just shut up. oh, and the probe? nice car, similar but not as comfortable. guess we're snobs.

I bought this new in May 1992 before the commercials even were on TV. Classic lines with good performance out of the 2.6L V-6 coupled with a 5sp tranny. Still has more than enough pep with 114K miles on it. Only had minor problems with during the 11 years I have had it- replace the plug wires, leaky trunk, drivers power window switch, and radio antenna motor. Gas mileage is typically 24-26 in town and 28-31 on the road.

Bought the car with ~50K miles on it. All I've ever had to do was typical maintenance (oil changes / brakes) and at 100K, I splurged and spent $400 to replace the fuel and water pump, spark plugs and wires, drive belt... the usual stuff people do when their car lasts that long and you want it to last longer. I've got 106K on it now I'd never get rid of it if that was an option!

I am the original owner of a Hunter Green 1993 MX6 LS. It has been a very pleasurable car to drive for 11+ yrs. It offers a good blend of fun driving, nice interior and great styling. The exterior looks neither trendy nor generic but sporty nice in an ageless sense. Mechanical reliability and cost of repair have been poor. Problems included power antenna that sticked in cold [at 2 year], trunk hinge that wouldn't hold the lid up [at 8 yr], A/C [at 7 year], oil leak [at 10 yr] and many others. Bad city fuel efficiency. Suite polluting (originally purchased in NJ, it barely passes the smog check in CA).

This car has not been a bad car to me. I did have to the replace the clutch once and axles twice, but the motor Is absolutely solid. Not a drip of anything, anywhere. The interior was not built well. My door panels are barely hanging on by a thread and the fabric on those panels are coming off the surface. The drivers seat does not like to be gotten in and out of a lot because it tends to tear on the left side. My center console started to fall off and my cupholder (the ONLY one in the car) won't come all the way out anymore. Backseat -- crammed, is the only way to put it. Don't try fitting someone over 5'5 in there or they were be hitting their head on the rear window everY 2 minutes.

I bought my car 11 years ago with only 7500 miles on it. Runs great except for its bad weather handling which has resulted in two accidents. Very unstable with snow on the ground. Handles like an ice skate. Both accidents put me right into the curb bending the tire inward. Each repair was $3000 or more. Nothing is cheap on the car if it needs to be replaced. Expect on spending at least $400 anytime you take this car in for something besides an oil change (e.g. oxygen sensor replacement,$800; axle boot replace,$450). The car runs well otherwise, especially in cold weather (irony). But after 115,000 miles, AC, tape player, power antenna, air bag, pneumatic trunk rest, door locks don't work.

Got it used a few years ago. Radiator had a leak when I bought it, eventually had to replace that. CV joints went bad due to the boots leaking, but that's expected with a car this age. Idle pulley lost its grease and snapped a belt, but that's also just an age problem that is going to happen with any car. Slightly funky exhaust smell. But that's been constant. Uses/burns/leaks oil slowly. Guessing it's due to valve cover/oil pan gaskets. Transmission had gone bad and been replaced before I bought it. Overall, a good car. Sunroof is very slow to open. I haven't tried it in a year or more. I'm scared it won't close back. A/C has never worked. Main interior light burns out very fast.

A basically good, fun car. Owned 2. Both had early valve problem which dealer fixed under warranty. Had to replace head gasket in 1 to fix slow oil leak. Otherwise engine very reliable. Trunk lid pistons don't hold up the weight anymore.Other than that, a fun car, peppy and has lasted better than I expected. Interior has withstood 100k miles with minimal wear. Front seats are designed to be snug, work well if you like to push it a little in the corners. After 10 years, the seats a bit too snug. A ture 2+2 - not really usable back seats for more than a few miles. I have just owned 5 sp maunal, not tried auto trans. Fun car.

I've had my 93LS since college. At 115k miles now with next to ZERO problems (90k miles are mine). Great in any weather condition (get snow tires), trunk holds a LOT (I'm a keyboard player), is very fun and still looks futuristic. Torquey V6 is perfect for autocrossing. Fix squeaks and rattles with a strut tower brace at the front and rear. A strong online community of Probe/MX-6 owners have helped me through some little issues. Get one, it won't disappoint!

I am the original owner of a 93 Mazdea MX-6 LS. My Mazda is getting older and I'm thinking of replacing it, but I cannot find a car I enjoy driving as much. I love the handling (especially around curves) my MX-6 provides. Nearing 8 years and I still love it.

Its beauty grows with each passing lane. If you buy one, make sure to get the manual, because the gas mileage on the auto is 18/21 versus 25/28 with the manual. V6 is more fun.

I'm 19 years old and I bought this car instead of a Prelude(Which was too expensive for me). I bought it 6400$CND and it had 182k on it. Still, the car was in great shape. No rust, very clean inside. Once i tried it for the first time, i litteraly fell in love with it. It has alot of power, great handling and is very quiet. This car combines both performance and comfort at a very cheap price. I would recommend this car to anybody that wants power and yet enjoy his ride. But if you want to modify this car to look like those Civics, forget it. This car is very hard to please. Performance parts are expensive and more rare than any other import cars.

Don't buy this car unless you are willing to replace every single part of it which of course will cost you more than the car itself.

This was my first real car - now its my first lemon. I've put about 30,000 miles on it since I got it but I've also had to replace the engine, transmission, and various other expensive parts. And I used to make fun of people with Ford Probes (they share the same parts)...not any more. Whatever they're asking for its not worth it - do not buy this car! It will only lead to pain & suffering plus a light wallet.
