FROM GT 3 to CE 5
We have a 2010 Mazda 3 Gt 2.5 Hb and considered it the all around greatest car we have ever owned . With 145,000 flawless miles , it did all things very well yet none the best- ? Handling, reliability , fun , utility cargo/people hauling , cost to own , and still elevates my heart rate with each turn of the key . So attached we couldnt trade it in - Its a 12 year old car that looks as if it were designed yeaterday- Then I drive by my local Mazda dealer ....and they literally have ONE new car on the lot due to supply issues . Its a 2022 CX-5 Carbon edition with Red leather interior ...and the only question was ...is it avaliable ? - Yes it was just delivered and had 02 miles on the ODO ...and a big beautiful " J " at the beginning if the VIN #. 1 hour later ..rolling down the fwy in a car I never test drove or did a bunch of homework on and when home after a lengthy , every road everywhere Sunday drive - A huge smile was permannetly affixed to my mug - I then read the 2022 reviews - and they were all right - 5+ stars - and drives like a vehicle double the price ...and instead of other drivers responding to the envy/hatred associated with many european cars ....drivers would slow down and drop back to get a full 360 of this magnificent work of art ...the cistine chaple on wheels. These were not envyous haters ...they were gawkers of admiration ...jaws on the dash ....and nods of acceptance and wonderment . Mazda struck and minted a thing of synergistic beauty - that requires no ,research , no calculating , no comparing ...just the intuitive voice of conscience followed by the affirming experience of driving - silence is all that remains - because there is nothing more to say except - I will take it , and the thought : how fortunate am I to have this vehicle - looking in my rear view mirror at yet one more Japanese car dealer ....with NO new cars left on their lot .

The best car ever!
The car is very solidly made and beautifully designed. Everything is large, durable, of very good quality, pleasant to the touch and very nice. You can feel that this is a premium product in the full sense of the word, not only in terms of price. The car, design and equipment is very practical and thoughtful - someone devoted a lot of time, attention and heart to refine this car from all sides. I am personally captivated by the design - both external and internal, an amazing and very sophisticated combination of elegance, style and modernity. This is a level or two levels of design higher than other SUVs. Operationally, the car is very smooth and very high in every aspect, balanced to provide a very good overall impression, not just to focus on one aspect.

6th Mazda - 1st CX5 Signature
Alas...a year ago in May, I purchased a 2022 CX-5 Signature. I was lucky enough to find it as a CPO with 6,000 miles...costing me $33k OTD. I was concerned about gas mileage, yet over 9,000 miles later, my average is 30.7 mpg. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic, & I use the steering wheel to drive for over 95% of the time. MRCC and traffic jam assist make this a very relaxing vehicle to drive, & whenever I do need to make a pass on the freeway, the power is always there. Sport Mode really does make this tall wagon feel like Touring Sporty Sedan, but mileage does drop a bit. Worth every penny. HD surround view is a feature I never knew I needed...but I do now. I already know this is the safest CUV I've ever owned based on me walking away without a scratch after a head on collision in my 2019 GT Premium CX-5. I hope Mazda continues the CX-5...even though it's a 10+ year model with a '17 & '22 refresh. It has aged so well...call it the CX-40 or whatever is necessary to keep this best seller for Mazda around for another 10 years.

Nice, but not without compromise
Jumping from long ownership of Chevys and Lincolns. That brings ride stiffness to attention, also steering is very responsive, but twitchy for my taste. Corners can be taken very quickly with this SUV compared to competitors. Engine is very revvy and likes RPM, it lacks some power, but makes it up in responsiveness. Exceptionally well handling on the highway, super easy to get the car over limits and have A LOT of fun at it! Very good transmission, however feels a bit direct, like a manual… it is due to its design, not in the bad way though. Super quick to shift and get the car taking off. Sport mode in standard 2.5 gets RPM to 3k and makes car noisy with a raspy note, definitely not made to be used for prolonged periods. I keep getting around 28mpg hwy and over 30mpg on rural roads, even though it is AWD. Seats are comfy, however do not hold well in corners, yet car has the zippy image. Now the bad. One issue with car fixed on warranty. Roof rails cap cracked and started getting wind noise over 40MPH. Tech misdiagnosed it for bad differential, but once opposed, dealer involved another tech and got it fixed. Space, plenty in front… legroom in back is a bit tight and seat again does not hold well in corners. Infotainment… it must be a Mazda thing. Using radio/player is not intuitive and often needs direct attention for desired results. No touch screen takes time to adjust to the joystick. That includes CarPlay/Android Auto. Another personal annoyance is the thin steering wheel. Overall I think it was a good choice and I will be shopping Mazda when the time comes. Update: oil changed... that is all this car needs... :-)

No zoom zoom for me
3rd Mazda I've owned. Bought 2021 CX5 awd in Jan 21. Have 26 k trouble free miles on it already. Just got back from cross country trip from NY to CA and back. Avg. about 28mpg driving with a load and keeping up with the traffic. Sounds good so far. However, now for the reality. The vehicle is really uncomfortable for me and the wife. Seats have all the adjustments but none work for us. Maybe cloth would have been better. Sunroof and windows are useless when going more than 20mph as they beat you to death and make it so loud you can't hear the person next to you. I think the radio stinks and the controller in the middle to adjust anything on the dash screen is a nightmare. On a positive note the price was right for the vehicle and it has all the annoying safety nannies you could ever ask for. The hood on this thing weighs a ton and trying to get your fingers to the latch requires mouse size hands, and the prop rod never wants to come out of it's hole without a lot of frustration. The cargo area is on the small side but it has 2 big positives. It has a temp spare and it came with a nice cargo cover as part of the deal I made. Back seat room is also lacking if the front folks are bigger than 5'10. All in all the CX5 just is not the exciting thing I hoped it would be. One last good thing it has an auto tranny no cvt and that means a lot to me. To many gizmos that weren't thought out that well. So I'll rate it 1 zoom but definitely not 2 zooms.
