So I've been shopping for a new SUV for almost a year now, I've looked at everything from the Ford Bronco Sport to the Toyota RAV4. I decided on the CX5 premium plus and so far couldn't be happier! It's fun to drive, very comfortable leather heated and ventilated sears, a great sounding Bose sound system and on and on! Definitely check this one out.

Just helped my in-laws buy the new 2022 CX-5 Preferred trim. I did a ton of research and Mazda came out on top for compact SUVs. it is loaded with all the safety features and fun to drive. In addition, the Preferred trim provides all the upgrades needed including full leather seats. I hope I get to borrow it once in a while!

I ended up driving the 22 Carbon Edition for 20K miles before trading it in for a 23 CX-5 Premium. There were several factors - One was color ! We felt the Carbon Edition with red interior was very nice and ended up being to flashy for us- to much attention ,and it was no longer a unique color combination as Mazda just couldn't resist continuing to crank out that color on the CE and the new CX-50 and other Mazda's - blah - Mazda once did make special edition cars in combinations of color and trim and then that was it ,,,now if it sells they just keep cranking em out til buyer burnout happens- We also decided that Bose speakers and Paddle shifters were other options we wanted - The instrument cluster on the Premium is also a bit nicer than the Carbon Edition with more analog gauges. Also the 23 has about a 50+ mile range on the gas tank which is nice . Also the grill size was reduced looking more subtle and streamline. My 22 had some transmission sofware issues which was apparent from day 1 and got better , but it initally had a habit of not shifting into 1st at a stop and then after accelerating it would lunge back into 1st and it didnt seem right - I called my Mazda dealer and they said that's the way it is ? It went away - Then there was a jumpy feel when the car was at low speeds as if it was trying to find a smooth place- I solved that with premium gas . These were things that were common on very tight new cars and they did get better - then I had a knock noise in the suspension occasionally when going onto uneven drivewaysat an angle - Just one pop and gone ? Then nothing for weeks - Then again ? I went in for the scheduled 15K nut & bolt chassis tightening - paid by Mazda hoping it would settle the issue - It didn't and after the whole suspension seemed to " off " I would not do that again - _ I was not happy at this point knowing that I had minor transmission software issues, and the not so smooth drive at low speeds , now the suspension. I live in a state that comps you your sales tax from a year old new car to trade in on another new car..so I did it . I upgraded to a 23 CX5 - premium edition , which has to many things different to clog up the 22 review - so look for that review of the 23 vs 22;,,,,, I traded in the 22 CE for the 23 premium ..wow there was a HUGE difference and ALL those issues were solved as I demo drove it prior and it was like a BMW or MBZ - no lie - I'm not saying the 22 CE is a bad car as I loved it , but It seemed like there were some software issues and suspension tweaks that needed attention . MY wife said she noticed nothing ! So I, having had a plethora of new cars and many new Mazdas , am a bit more sensitive to minor things - Many people just fire up the radio and drive --end of story - no problems -- I dont do that - I drove in silence near walls and thru tunnels with the windows down to listen for noises . That said, Im sure that 22 will run for a long time with no issues . .

Transmission to be replaced after 3,500 miles

Transmission is defective on our new 2022 CX-5. Bought new and has been back to the dealer couple times to to shift issues we noticed at 2,000 miles. Mazda finally “approved” replacing transmission. Initially was told we would need to wait 5 to 6 months for it to be replaced under warranty but after we pushed they are now saying 5 weeks. Engine is weak and loud. Infotainment system is poor and not user friendly. Car looks nice and interior is nice. Will never purchase another Mazda again.
