Smooth ride

I've had my 2020 GX for over a month now. I read lots of reviews on this SUV and could have changed my mind if I based my decision solely on that. The ride is smooth and solid. I traded in a 2014 Lexus LS so I know what a smooth ride is. The technology may not be as updated as other SUVs but it is more than adequate for me. I live in Florida and the mpg are running 18.6 city and 23 highway. Not great but when calculating the cost per year it's not a big deal. Besides safety and reliability are always the top priority.

Monster ride

This car is all black, even the wheels. Its a solid ride. The driver’s seat molds to your body. Playlist all synced in. This is the 3rd GX 460 for me. This one has the smoothest ride so far. I rack up the miles, so a very safe car is essential. I can’t imagine a car any better than this monster.

Reliable Luxury Meets Off-road Grit

Sam, 05/01/2020

If you are looking for an extremely luxurious SUV that can take you anywhere without breaking down, this truck should be the only one on your list. The inside, while on the traditional side, is classically ergonomic with an aura of luxury. The interior will remain in-style for years to come, while the flashy interiors in other luxury vehicles will quickly become dated. This vehicle is the smoothest SUV I have ever driven, and the V8 engine provides effortless power. I have owned multiple vehicles, including a Land Rover Range Rover and a BMW X5, and the Lexus GX leaves those cars in the dust in terms of overall visibility, quality, safety features, ergonomics, smoothness, and quietness. Even more so, this Lexus will last for years to come without any issues. With this vehicle being based on the Toyota Prado body-on-frame platform sold abroad, there is the promise of Toyota bullet-proof reliability, which is a quality that virtually no other luxury SUV can offer in today's market. While the truck is tall and large, it is surprisingly maneuverable, and it has an incredibly small turning radius for its size. I have no problem driving this SUV in cramped parking lots. The standard safety tech is more than enough to ensure you have no issues going from point A to point B. I personally believe the Premium Trim (which is the version I purchased) has more than enough features, but the Luxury Trim is a great option for those who want a little bit extra off-roading and convenience features. If you are looking for a vehicle that is flashy, new, and cutting edge, this truck is not the SUV for you. But, if you are looking for a reliable SUV that is easy to drive and that can take you anywhere (with tons of cargo) in luxurious style without breaking down, the Lexus GX is the only option you should consider.

Still a Real SUV After All These Years

Thanks Lexus for not messing up a good thing. For me, an SUV has to be able to take me most anywhere I want to go, not just to the mall. It has to be able to tow, it has to have 4 wheel drive, with a low range transfer case. I love the additional safety of full time four wheel drive. It has to have a V8 for towing and passing power when loaded. It has to be comfortable, safe, and have a real frame, like a truck. Most SUV’s today are car based, basically a car that sits higher. My wife drives one, a Lexus RX350, it’s her fourth one, she loves it, it’s nice and it works for her, but I’ll take the GX any day. There’s not many SUV’s on the market left like this and Lexus quality and reliability are as good as it gets. Some folks might call it “old school”, and that’s ok, I take it as a compliment. Update: GX has given me zero issues, running and driving perfect. Drove it 700 miles the other day and was getting 22-23 mpg, which I think is very good. Great SUV! Update: The GX continues to perform perfectly. I have had zero issues, the paint and interior still look new and no squeaks or rattles of any kind. It’s a pleasure to own.

Precious Cargo Hauler & Memory Maker !!

So let me first start out with saying I do not usually write reviews, and especially being 39 yrs old and having 19 vehicles since I’m 17, This is my first vehicle review. I have had range rovers navigators H2 Hummers Escalda, Yukon, Tahoe Mercedes GL and now my GX460. I have never kept a vehicle longer than 30 months. I lease, however this is the first vehicle I have actually not only fell in love with, so much that I don’t even want a newer model, as mine is a 2017. My lease is about to be up next Month and I have decided to buy it out. I travel with 4 adults and two children regularly and cargo and thus vehicle does it with class, safety, reliability and takes us everywhere and anywhere to make our memories. Off road and on. Long distance road trips and short term drives. Nothing better. Seats are comfortable, heavy vehicle that can take a beating handle snow and any other weather or terrain I throw at it, and know that my precious cargo is safe and will be able to give this vehicle to my 5 year old when he starts driving. If fuels economy and the latest tech are important to you then you may want to look elsewhere, but if simple buttons and easy controls, followed by all the comfort and luxury you could want with the great reliability in the industry with a need to go anywhere at any time, this is the vehicle for you. Classy and powerful, fishing the surf in the am and out to the theatre at night. This is a forever vehicle, my forever vehicle. My only regret is I didn’t buy a Lexus sooner !!!! Thank you Lexus for making a real suv !!! Great dealerships and amazing service !

I absolutely love my new gx460 I’ve had it for about 3 months and I find it very comfortable and a great ride for such a large suv. It is a very heavy suv and that proved how safe and well built it was when a guy rear ended me at full speed and I barely had any damage and hardly felt it.

Don't listen to negative reviews, i was shopping around Range rovers, Mercedes suv and this Lexus Gx since i drove a GS 350 which was bulletproof reliable. The range rovers have awful reliability complaints, mercedes are nice but don't hold their value well so i went to Lexus and test drove this 2021 Gx with sport pack and fell in love. The infotainment system is plain but works and im getting 14.5-16.5 mpg in city and 19-20 mpg in hwy which is not bad for a v8. Love the triple beam headlights ! it makes it look almost like a new bodystyle Gx even though its a refresh. This car with the sport package, 19 inch black wheels and white paint exterior turns heads. I was looking at 2020 pre owned and they are almost same price as the deal i got on new one, these hold value very well so you won't have to be thousands upside down when its time to trade like a range rover junk or mercedes and on top of that its bulletproof reliable ! Today is 3/1/22 and i still feel the same about my GX , great vehicle and such a mean looking presence with the sport package when i drive or see another on the road :)

Drives Smooth as butter and full of power

Out of all the vehicles ,over my life , that I have ever owned this is hands down my favorite. I have had a Honda prelude si, a 535i bmw, a gmc jimmy , a Kia Sorento and my last vehicle was a 2006 GMC envoy. Which I was very happy with but at 14 years old it was time for a safer truck with more airbags and a newer engine. I test drove a Honda Pilot which was great except the emergency break was placed awkwardly It is very high up but it also touched my leg when my foot was under it. I Had to really hike my leg up to engage it. Toyota 4 runner seems more for off roading. I was not very impressed with the interior. So it came down to the GMC Yukon and Lexus gx. I test drove the gx first, wow. There's no way you can't love it. She just glides. I read a review that said it was bumpy. He must have his trucks mixed up. The gmc Yukon was fine , very nice. Smooth but not quite as smooth as my Lexus., but very close. As I said I have had two gmc s in the past, but once you are spending this much money I felt it was a better investment to have a car with a better trade in value , not that I will trade it in. I'm keeping her but still a good idea. Also towing capacity is 6500 pounds. If I ever do decide to tow a camper it will easily tow the ones I looked at that I feel will meet my needs. And it has sway control. Also I did something that a lot of people think is unnecessary. They say warranties are rip offs. I disagree. It's just me on the road. I'm by myself so I bought the warranties for everything. That's it. I am done with having to ever put anymore money into my truck. EVER. I will have no repair expenses that might come up, all service recommendations will be done , loner cars, road side assist, a scratch on one of the seats. A tire or wheel ruined by pot holes, replaced. Everything except tires and brakes that each person wears out differently will be covered. Everything. So now I get to drive a car that I will keep for years worry free. I feel there's no price too high to pay for peace of mind. Lots of people take their chances but I am woman traveling alone and it is a great relief to know that by my buying the warranties that will end up costing less up than 100$ a month if I keep the car ten years , which I will, any Lexus dealership anywhere will take care of me. There's even a lemon clause. Not likely at all but if you get one that was put together wrong you get a new one. Key fobs replaced, the list goes on and on. I'm covered. Others have mentioned that the gas mileage is not wonderful. But you get all the power of the V -8. And the better towing capacity than most suv s. My friend rachel and I would like to do the camper RV trip thing in a couple of years. But I also want to drive a nice suv everyday so I don't want a huge pickup truck for towing incredibly heavy things. And our trip might not ever come to be. The gas mileage is the only down side for me and I don't care. Cosmetically the grille is huge. I would have made it smaller. But that really doesn't matter. Some reviews have said it doesn't have enough technology extras but I think there's plenty. Like no apple play for example. I don't care about that. I think that's being too picky. It plays all my songs off my iPhone so I'm fine. There are all the safety features you need like leaving your lane alerts and back up cameras and warning beeps if you are about to bump into something. All you have to do is drive it down the road 500 feet and you know it's the one for you. It is pricey for what I usually spend on cars. If the Honda had not had the horrible emergency parking break location I would have been more practical and bought it and been perfectly satisfied. it would have been a reliable suv and got the job done. But I am so glad it did have the break placement I didn't like because now I have the most awesome, perfect , favorite of all the cars I ve ever owned suv to drive. I get to really enjoy what I get to drive everyday for years and years. I also read that the 2021 is going to have some major changes. I'm better with tried and true and I'm glad I got a 2020. It can go off road. It has 4 wheel drive. I can drive over any curb I need to so I can parking lot hop if I want to with out having to drive the long way around , or I can go over island curbs. If you really can't afford it don't test drive it. It will be like breaking Lori s rule on " Say yes to the dress" if you try on a dress you can't afford , out of your price range, and love it which ever wedding dress you end up with just won't compare. This suv is a total dream. I could not be happier. I just bought her friday. June 5 ,2020

First Lexus in our household and chose this one over the RX-350. GX460 has more headroom and is a heavier vehicle overall. Ours has the Premium Plus package and Sport Appearance Group (black onyx/ecru) and looks great. The Mark Levinson sound system is outstanding and this vehicle will go just about anywhere in style. No, it doesn’t have all the latest tech features but we’re perfectly happy with the layout and ease of use of its controls and its suite of safety features is very good. Gas mileage is not great but safety and reliability should be outstanding as well as resale value. It’s definitely not a one size fits all SUV but for our purposes we think it’s a great choice.

I looked at the Mercedes GLE the Volvo XC 90 T6 and decided on the Lexus GX 460 2020 version the reason so is because this vehicle is the only true SUV truck frame out there and people say the ride comfort isn’t that great but I think they are wrong the right code for his Lexus standard smooth quiet and it feels like a quiet smooth tank

Lexus 2020 GX460 Luxury - Fantastic Vehicle

Love this SUV. It's built on a truck frame, it's built in Japan (quality), weights 5200 lbs (safe), is quiet, has decent power, easy to drive, great view of the road and has a great sound system (Mark Levinson). It basically is a Toyota 4runner on steroids. Bigger motor, better size, quieter. It's only issues that are significant are 1) no apple car play, 2) tail gate swings out like a car door and 3) poor gas mileage on premium fuel. It these 3 issues aren't a big deal, then you should buy this car. It's a reliable as them.

Nice looking, rugged SUV drives smoothly on the highway. Potholes are a non-issue and is quiet inside. I've had the car for 10 months and 10k miles and has been terrific. Considered Audi Q7, Range Rover, and MB GLE. Chose GX for reliability and (eventual) resale value. Confident I won't regret the decision. Safety tech is quite good. Infotech, as noted, isn't state of the art, but that wasn't important to me. I really hate non-maintenance visits to dealership which I expect will be minimal with the GX. Vehicle is roomy inside but narrow compared to other SUV's. Makes it easier to park but, if you're considering the GX, you should be aware it's a few inches more narrow than alternatives. I didn't opt for the Levinson-Lux package and am happy with the stereo as is. Car looks pretty cool with the dark wheels and am happy with white -- great combo.

Was looking for a 3 row SUV that could tow 6500 pounds. Not many options out there as most are now unibody and they top at 5000 lbs. The old school design is a plus for me. No turbos etc. will translate into many years of reliable service. This is much more important to me than the latest infotainment. Was concerned about fuel efficiency but in real life I get over 20 mpg in combined driving- pleasantly surprised! Full time 4 wheel drive will come handy on winter roads. Lexus reliability is unmatched.

2021 GX460 is the best luxury SUV for on/off road if you don't care about technology upgrades (apple play, etc..), although I believe the 2022 has Apple play so maybe that is no longer an issue. There is a reason they have not changed this car in 10 years, it works perfectly fine and does not ever break down. The interior is nice and very quiet when driving on any road. Great headroom for taller drivers and visibility is also very good. Center locking differential and high low/transfer case with 6,500/lb towing capacity is phenominal. LED headlights on 2021 model are super bright and efficient. The dynamic radar cruise control is so nice for long highway drives, I will never buy a car that does not have this option ever again. Gas mileage is 18mpg average with city/hwy, but small block V8 and very heavy truck = poor gas mileage. Overall this is a car that will not disappoint- unless you like sitting on the side of the road and waiting for a tow truck to come pick you up.

Ok maybe the technology isn't what BMW or Mercedes Benz has but the ride is comfortable, the seats in the front are soft and mould to your bottom for a soft smooth ride. The pickup isn't that impressive but your also driving a 3 ton SUV not a sports car. When it comes to looks I gotta say even though the design is a decade old it still looks good. I have the sport design package and I have to say, it REALLY LOOKS GREAT. I have two children 10 and 6 and they have more than enough room in the back seats for their legs. If you're looking for a smooth riding, luxury SUV make sure you give the GX 460 a look, you won't be disappointed.

Lexus continue to nickle and dime GX customers!

Someone at Lexus decided to remove the passenger side mirror auto-dimming feature from the 2021 GX 460 after having it available on a GX since 2010! My Father's 2006 ES 330 and my wife's 2015 RX 350 both have dual auto-dimming mirrors, but my $70k brand sparkling new GX doesn't because Lexus decided to do yet another cheap skate trick to their most loyal customers! None of the Lexus vehicle have the cult following like the GX do and yet Lexus continues to rob us of one feature after another. My 2008 GX 470 had air suspension and rear height adjustment standard across all trim lines along with the wood and leather streeing wheel...and a single $3k package automatically included Navigation, Backup camera and Mark Levinson stereo. Now in order to get all of the above-mentioned features, once must opt for the top of the line Luxury model costing nearly $15k more than the base trim and even then they must still pay extra for Mark Levinson stereo! And it's still not enough for the Lexus bottom line! Now they saved another ($100?) with the anti-glare removal from the passenger side mirror...something that is available on EVERY other Lexus vehicle, some selling for over $20k less than the GX 460! SHAME on you Lexus! You have lost a very loyal customer by your decision to save a dime! No more Lexus for me going forward!

I love my 2021 GX. It met my expectations and more. It doesn't have all the bells and whistle that I look for a in a luxury vehicle, but I still found it very well equipped. The sports design package really sets the car off with the larger rims and black accents. It is the best comparable SUV in terms of reliability and performance. No regrets.

I just got the 2021 Lexus GX luxury with the sport package, black with red interior. Previously I had a 2017 Tahoe. I like the look of the Lexus, the grille is not the greatest feature but I don’t have an issue with that. My issue is the technology. Compared to a 2017 Tahoe I feel like I stepped back in time. My first complaint is the lack of Apple CarPlay, the dealership said they could add that aftermarket for $1,600. The navigation sucks, even when I use the live person. The Alexa won’t send the directions to the screen. The “home” screen is never the Home Screen, the car always starts on the navigation screen. The gas mileage is awful plus it takes premium fuel. You would think for a luxury line vehicle it would have state of the art technology. I wanted this car for so long and spent over $70k and I’m so disappointed.

Issues with vehicle since the 300 miles

What a MISTAKE, 2021 GX 460 car started pulling to the right after 300 miles have to consistently bring car in line because of the pulled. Took it in Lexus West Kendall Miami Florida and nothing was fixed. Took videos with the tech they acknowledge the issue. however need to clarify issue doesn’t happen under 35 mph only after I star driving at higher speeds or I press on the gas. Driven BMW, Chevy, Range Rover and even the 4Runner never had issues with suv pulling so much. Story short it’s been seven times already issues still there last thing they said that the balancing is within specs. Really disappointed concern with the safety of the Vehicle. Will take it to a different dealership as recommended by Lexus HQ.

As a devoted Lexus customer since 1993, I looked forward a couple of years ago to trading my GX470 in on a new GX460. For the first time I was extremely disappointed. The 460 is underpowered, and the transmission inadequate. The seats are uncomfortable, and the ride and handling have not been improved since the 460 replaced the 470. The electronic controls are confusing and not well designed. The whole vehicle seems sadly dated and neglected. I replaced the 460 with a Ram 1500, which is better in all respects: seat comfort, ride, handling, gas mileage, power, transmission, electronics, and features. The value for the money was so much better. It really seems that Toyota stopped spending to continuously improve the model, and it shows. The worst feature of my 460 was the standard audio system. It was capable of reproducing sound effectively when attached to an external source. The internal am and fm, and satellite were strangely muffled on both talk and music. No amount of tweaking helped. The dealer claimed the system met factory specs. I was very happy to get a different vehicle with listenable satellite, am and fm.

I hate the fact that you have literally no cargo space if using the 3rd row. Stereo isn’t the greatest.

First, I own a Bentley Flying Spur (which I paid $240K for and don't drive) - money not the issue. For a 30th wedding anniversary, my wife and I traded our 2007 Lexus GX which served us well over the past 13 years. We chose the Lexus GX again (atomic silver with the red leather interior) as an anniversary gift to our selves. Why? R-E-L-I-A-B-I-L-I-T-Y. I have enough tech with the Apple watch. As for the Bentley, It has never seen rain and snow and the yearly oil change cost me $990 just for them to put 10 quarts of Mobil oil - but the V12 and 600 horse power makes me feel like a kid again.

They tout what a grand vehicle they produce but it has few safety options or bells and whistles. My friend has a Kia Sorento that beats this hands down. No where near the price either.

I own 2 GX 460's a 2020 and a 2022. I bought them because of the Lexus reputation for longevity and value. I have had all the fancy SUV's. Lincoln Aviators, BMW X5, Mercedes GLE. All had problems with computer problems, suspension problems etc. Toyota/Lexus make a product that lasts and make what it has better every year. And after you put 150k to 200 k on them they are still worth something and the other Hi Tech vehicles are in the Scrap yard
