Major electrical issue

Just purchased a brand new 2019 Range Rover sport and the car has had a complete electrical/ system failure. Tried to start the car and nothing works. We had the car towed and the dealer has no solution except to wait until corporate engineering finds a solution. The car has been at the dealer for a while now and others have been affected for over a month with no solution or fix on the horizon. From what we have learned this seems to be a much larger issue.

My new 2020 RR PHEV had engine light still turned on after 3 times back to dealer service with changing parts. Now in service 4th time and they said that all this model cars in the world will be recalled for new hybride software that will be ready at the end of September 2020. 3 mo ths after buying a new very expensive car, still stuck to service and my lowyer has been dealing with manufacturer. UNRELIABLE CAR!!!!!

Electronic nightmare

If all you had to do was look at this beauty in the parking lot or sit in it, it would be fabulous...unfortunately, you also have to drive it and that's where the romance ends. I purchased a P400E, the plug in hybrid, which purports the ability to select a "full electric" drive setting. Despite selecting this drive mode, the car has never driven under full electric at any time. Typically, only 25% of any trip is under electric power when selecting the "full electric" "EV" position. Land Rover has tried to explain the car has "certain algorithms" that force it into gas engine mode. While I agree that my Volvo PHEV also turns on the engine for a short burst if I accelerate hard, it turns it off fairly quickly and returns to full electric mode. This cannot be said for the Range Rover Sport which seems to turn on the engine randomly in addition to a hard acceleration. Black screens. The Sport's two center information panels also have a mind of their own turning themselves off at will. Occasionally, the screens reset themselves after a few minutes at other times, one must turn off the car to reset them. Additionally, under normal operation, they are slow to respond making access very clunky. Back up camera. Another feature that works about 90% of the time, but when you spend 90K for a vehicle, you would expect something 100% reliable. Other issues...throttle response inconsistent, parking brake occasionally activates by itself at when leaving a parking space, electric plug sometimes does not release (locking and unlocking the car a couple of times usually fixes it). Bottom line, pass on this vehicle. If you are really need this brand, skip the Sport as I know other people that have returned theirs due to similar electronic gremlins. If you're looking for an SUV PHEV that works, try the Volvo.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CAR!!!

I bought this car in March of 2019. I really loved the look and was excited about having a luxury vehicle for the first time. This car almost cost my daughter and I our life. Within months of owning the vehicle this car stopped without any warning in the middle of a five lane highway. The car completely locked up. I couldn’t even shift the gears. Cars were speeding up on us and my daughter was screaming from the back. I called 911, but it took the police a half hour to arrive because of the holiday traffic. Once they arrived, it took two tow trucks over two hours to figure out how to unlock the wheels to put it up on the bed. I filed a claim with corporate. The advisor James Rochester said they would review the case and get back with me within 30 days. Almost 60 days later he sends me a letter stating that they were sorry about the inconvenience, but because they fixed it they are denying my claim. It took them two weeks to fix the engine failure and they added 50 miles to the car to make sure it was ok. My car has a warranty and The added mileage was on me. He stated it would have to be a repeat incident and possibly they would reopen my case. They did NOTHING!!! Not even a Reimbursement for the two weeks or the mileage. A repeat case??? I also found out that the engine failure was a recall one month before the purchase of my vehicle. I was never notified!!! I do not recommend ever purchasing a car from Range Rover.

Everything you’ve read about Land Rover is true. This is my second and last Range Rover sport. There’s a ton of electrical glitches, fuel system sensor issues, braking issues, and now 3 of the 4 door locks needed replaced. $2,700 and of course they refused to cover it. Really? I don’t even think a Kia has ever had 3 door locks fail simultaneously and then tried to claim it’s not a bad batch of defective parts. The dealership rips you off as much as possible, and Land Rover USA is worthless. It’s a gorgeous suv, but it’s a nightmare to own. And ridiculously expensive. Bad company, bad service, and overpriced. Will be selling this thing and getting a new hybrid Lexus suv. $30k cheaper and way more reliable. Do yourself a favor, ignore the great looks of range rovers and buy something else.

This is an updated review after 6 months of owning 2019 Supercharged model. I am still very satisfied with the performance of the V8 engine, the comfort and looks of the car as well. No mechanical issues at all. Had a flat tire and it was nice to have a full-size spare with matching rim in the car. Unfortunately, things I am not satisfied with are several. - Inappropriate low-profile tires in this capable off-road SUV. It defeats the purpose. - The large panoramic moon-roof allows in too much heat, even after installing window tint on it. - Back up camera: low resolution and most likely wireless connection as it breaks up. The camera itself is mounted off center to the side of the license plate which distorts the dimensions when trying to back up. - The SIM card never worked. AT&T did not even recognize the car VIN number. - The car does not save my settings, simple things like A/C temperature, Wi-Fi password, or last audio channel I used. - The car does not have CD player. Trying to play music from USB stick does not work well as system will always restart in FM next time, and when going back to USB it will always start from song number 1 and will never recall where it left. - Rear entertainment system: this is subscription service over AT&T. No actual DVD tray. Connecting external DVD player to HDMI port did not work well. Very disappointed children. - Navigation system: Hard to zoom in and zoom out in as it is completely touch screen. The map graphics are not the best. The navigation screen is wide but too short (about 3-4 inches) only showing a small stretch of the road ahead of you. The font on the map is too small. - Auto start-stop function would have saved some gas if it would last more than 10-20 seconds with the engine off. Apparently the battery is not sufficient to power everything and the car restarts itself very shortly after a stop on a traffic light.

Complete Junk

Other car owner warned me to stay away from Land Rover. After owning 3 previous models with little or not issues, my wife and I got talked into a new 2020 LR Sport Phev. It has been a complete nightmare - electrical, braking and electric motor issues. I do not think the electric motor has ever worked, but maybe the jet airplane noise it makes is actually the electric motor. Also, random trim pieces on the interior and exterior completely come off for no apparent reason. The vehicle has been in the service department more than our garage. After LR claims to fix the vehicle with a computer update, it has the same issue within hours. The vehicle is unreliable and unsafe to drive - the tow driver knows us by name. Dealing with LR corporate is even worse than the vehicle. Weeks and months with no response. We are now on our 5th LR representative with no results. This company is a complete joke. Stay away from LR at all costs!

Looks nice but piece of garbage

Nick, 03/06/2021
2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Supercharged Dynamic 4dr SUV 4WD (5.0L 8cyl S/C 8A)

Bought a 2019 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged back in august of 2019. First few months everything was pretty good besides a sunroof rattle from the day we picked the car up. Around January 2020 everything went downhill from there. “Sport” badge painted in black on the tailgate began flaking off. Sunroof rattle was fixed by replacing sunroof rails. A clicking noise on the outside of the car when turning the wheel at low speeds was fixed by needing a new upper control arm (about 15k kilometres on the car). The screens in the car have gone black while driving and the reverse camera has stopped working with it also being stuck frozen on the screen after multiple restarts of the car. Have had suspension and other related warning faults (collision warning unavailable, suspension fault drive carefully, reduced traction). The sunshade feature where you wave your hand to open it stopped working and the sensor needed to be replaced. One soft close door motor stopped working and needed to be replaced. For about 6 months now have been dealing with a buzzing/ rattling noise coming from the trunk area which it has gone to the dealer now 3 times for. The first time we were told it needed a new exhaust muffler on the passenger side. They ordered it from the UK and when it came in they installed it but did not install the muffler correctly so it was bouncing around over bumps (muffler was loose) and drove back to the dealer to get it fixed. The dealer and technician who released the car obviously didn’t car because that’s a safety issue where the muffle could have fallen off since the wrong clamp was installed. Buzzing/rattling noise came back and now are told it needs a new catalytic converter which it currently being ordered from the UK. The check engine light came on around 22k kilometres which was caused by a faulty O2 sensor. The rear passenger seatbelt latch broke and seatbelt would no longer latch which is a very concerning safety issue. At the same time this passenger seat motor fan for the heated and cooling seats was jammed and stopped working. The brake pedal inside makes an awful groaning noise when applied and clicks when applying sudden pressure so the brake pedal actuator was replaced but the issues still persist. Other issues that have not been addressed are some rattles upon status when engine is idling high inside the cabin as well as very annoying engine vibrations around 1200rpm which can be felt throughout the cabin. Not sure if it’s the transmission but at low speeds and especially in traffic when easing on and off the gas there can be many times a sudden jolt and thumb under the car almost as if there’s a disconnect in the drivetrain which can be very abrupt at times. Keep in mind the car is only a year and a bit old with 23k kilometres to date. For a 120k dollar vehicle it looks great, the interior looks very nice but frustrating and constant issues is very annoying. Can’t wait to give the car back in thank god it is a lease. Won’t be returning to the brand since we have never had so many issues with a vehicle that is only over a year old. The quality of the vehicle is a piece of crap and also the dealers service has been garbage. Have had better quality and service from much cheaper cars like a Nissan Altima. Definitely not worth the money to spend on such an expensive vehicle that spends most of its time at the dealer. Better off getting a simpler and cheaper vehicle.

I love the comfort and ride. I have had absolutely no issues with electronic screens or camera, though I understand that updates were made. I'm not towing or driving off road but I am impressed with the fit and finish, comfort, trying, technology and ride. The supercharged 6 provides plenty of power and torque. UPDATE....The automatic engine shut off when you come to a stop is a major annoyance and you can only disengage it for the current ride, not permanently. The park assist feature is not near as good the technology on most every other brand of car, it is very basic and ineffective technology. The process of changing the various dash screens is not at all intuitive and forget trying to update the home screen. Clearly wish there was a click in the dash, as the small font digital time reading on the screen is not easily seen.

calling it a high end vehicle and pride - sadly this model has thrown it all up against all the previous models I have owned and driven - wont always allow you to open the doors - the car decides if your key fob should work or not and several visits to the dealer has had no fruitful result, not to forget it at times wont start saying key not found. real frustrating - rear trunk foot opening - again the car decides if it should open for you or not - while the infotainment screen will glitch up some item be it music / navigation / cruise control (oh that too it decides when not recognize your wish to resume) - Even the exhaust showing twin tail pipes but only one is active - What a fake deceiving view and function - Frankly I am done with Range Rovers - next vehicle I change will definitely not be this

Honestly, I was hesitant at first, but instead of buying the car I rented the car from enterprise at least 5 times. Then I rented other luxury SUV's and decided to lease the Ranger Rover Sport. I must say it was the best decision! Obviously the car isn't great on gas, but to be such a large SUV it actually has pretty good gas mileage especially on the highway. The technology is great, the interface is great and the cabin is luxury. Smooth ride and great off road. I haven't had one issue with this vehicle in terms of maintenance, although the car is still less than a year old. I highly recommend this car, especially for families who want something sporty, fun to drive with all the features of a luxury vehicle in a SUV.

We bought this suv in spite of being skeptical after hearing endless horror stories about how poorly its made and than how when t does break and it does that land rover will hit you real hard to fix all that does break. Lets start with wind shield wiper motor breaking , door panels falling off ( they are snap on body panes yes snap on). In addition to this the inside instrument panel and ac broke. All under 30,000 miles. Than the real kicker there brake system completely falls aprt at about 30,000 miles which ours did, there mechanics said this is normal lololo. Than they say with a straight face two ceramic rotors( landrovr uses these disaster and they cant be cut need to be replaced with all new pads ,,,cost about $2000 plus tax for brakes alone. Will NEVER ever buy a land rover again.A Horrible company making unsafe Suvs that fall apart and than they ream you as hard as they can when they do!

For the price that is paid, one would expect monitor interface that does not lag, a back up camera that does not black out, a basic features such as an easy entry option for seats and steering wheel. Instead, the opposite is found with the Range Rover Sport. In addition, the car name "Sport" is misleading. Pressing on the gas, one feel no power despite the gas wasting turbocharger. If your interested in useless widgets and add-ons then look no further.

My wife loves her 2020 RR Sport PHEV and it is a nice vehicle, sitting in it, it feels well made, quiet and smooth ride, overall, a luxury feel when driving for sure….. Here comes the HOWEVER…. However, it has some serious issues that cannot be resolved by the LR service folk. We bought the car brand new in January 2020. Currently, the car has under 10,000 and is exactly two years old. Over the past 4-6 months, on three different occasions, my wife will be driving and the vehicle will lose power in that she can press the accelerator pedal, there is no response, a complete lack of power. The engine doesn’t rev and she can move at a literally 2-5 mph; this happened to her on a road below our neighborhood where the speed limit is 40 mph and she was so scared. It gets worse. The same thing happened, we went to the dealer, they couldn’t replicate the issue so after it sitting at the LR dealer for two weeks, we took it back. Less than a week later, it happened to her again on the highway, speed limit of 70mph and almost got ran over by an 18-wheeler. She was beyond scared so back to the dealer it went (flat bed tow trucks) and after having it for 10 days, informs us that they are replacing the ‘power cable’, not sure what that means? Is it a wire harness? Some other issue? No one will tell us but because it is on back order, we need to wait at least another two weeks. She is fearful of driving her car again. Be aware of this issue and see if this is the best $110k you can spend on a vehicle.

I love this car. I purchased the V8 supercharged dynamic. The coach work is impressive, as the interior is inviting and sporty. The driving characteristics of the car especially in the dynamic mode allows you to have a sports car while driving an SUV. I really enjoy the sound from the Meridian system. It makes you want to listen to most of your music loud. I love the Apple CarPlay feature as it allows me to use all of my Apple features hands-free. The heft and the solid feel of the car makes you wonder is built from the solid block of billet aluminum. I find not much to be offended by, I drove all of the new SUVs before buying this one and I have disappointments. It has a ton of eyeball and the sound to go with it. Looking back I would’ve opted for a few more features, but this one is nicely equipped. My previous rover was the V6 with the supercharger and there is no comparison. I also had a Porsche Cayenne diesel which I loved as well. I thought about the diesel motor again for the Rover, but I wanted the sports car feel of the dynamic V-8.

After driving the redesigned new BMW X5, the Mercedes ML, the Lexus RX back-to-back, the Range Rover Sport's driving characteristics simply left all the others behind. While looks are a matter of personal taste (and we love the Land Rover lineup), handling can be measured and what this SUV achieves - on- and off road is simply amazing (as fast a a race Mini-Cooper on the Nürburgring in Germany). This is our 5th Range Rover and none has disappointed.

I owned several car in my life but this is the worst one ever charging issue and when you push gas it jerks. Took it down to Reno Nevada for a service three or four time but no help. I am just going to give up on Range Rover service and trade in for something else. I am so angry about the service at the range rover but I am going to stop right here and they do not deserve one star.

This SUV is great in every aspect. Electronics could be a bit quirky but I'm not losing sleep over it; they sufficiently provide the functions needed consistently enough that if exceptionally something fails I'm not upset at the world. Lots of luxury, utility, technology and plenty of power. Having said that, (i couldn't stress this enough) KNOW what you're buying, test drive it before buying. If you hear people complain is either a) lemon b) their sheer inability to understand options, failing to test drive or going for the base model to save money... (Facepalm)

Absolutely amazing vehicle. A masterpiece of form and function. Dealer experience was first class and is what car buying should be, effortless. The quality of this RR is amazing, top notch technology, built like a tank, a monster of a V8 engine that is every bit as efficient as a high compression turbo charged V6, a testament to British engineering. I am usually an American car buyer but deviated to support our most loyal ally and trading partner, the good people of the UK! Thank you Range Rover!

Plug in hybrid needs electrical engineering. Car has too many problems the dealers can’t fix. When car works it drives great but not worth the days in service. Check ratings before you buy!!

I’ve now owned 3 Range Rover Sports. Prior to this I was a BMW guy for years . But the Range Rover is more classy. I also had a Porsche Cayenne but missed my Range Rover. What I really like about these vehicles is the relaxed way I feel driving it. I also like knowing it’s not just a SUV it has real off road capabilities. I’ve never had a problem with any if my Range Rovers. Classy relaxed capable.

Range Rover Sport Autobiography

It’s basically the best SUV period always will be and there is litterally no reason to ever think otherwise. The only actual competitor the Range Rover has is the G63 AMG, and that’s really for those who just want to try something different because they have owned multiple Range Rovers in the past or want second SUV. Even when compared to high end Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Lamborghini options. None ever come close to what a Range Rover offers as an entire package, IF YOU HAVE THE V8 SUPERCHARGED/AUTOBIOGRAPHY/SVR. The only issue which technically is a positive for some, ALL Range Rover Sports look alike. The upper models base price are 87,000 for supercharged and 97,000 for Autobiography/ SVR starts at 113,000 (estimated for 2019 models I’m not 100% sure off the top of my head exactly) ALL but the SVR when you compared it to the cheap HSE model look IDENTICAL, I MEAN IDENTICAL. I can easily pick apart difference in all porsche generations and models, and these ranges are completely the same. I’m 32 and my second car as a family car spending 104,567 msrp I really would have preferred to stand out from the generic HSE for 70k. Although to be fair that’s more of a personal vain issue. While it is a massive personal annoyance, I appreciate the fact I fly under the radar completely. Because 94% of Range Rover Sports in the DMV area (dc Maryland Virginia) are HSE. 4.5% are Supercharged 1% are autobiographies and .5% are SVR’s The HSE model are for people who want to say they have a Range Rover and not much else. Options for that engine size is also limited. For Example, you WILL NOT be able to get 22 positions seats with Massage unless you’re spec’ing an Autobiography. 6 cylinder for a car with curb weight wel into 5,300 pound range AND qualifies for over 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight being powered by 6 cylinder 300ish HP, just get out and push you’ll go faster, the worst part is you can’t even bring the luxury level up to anything acceptable at that price point. So in summary, if you buy the HSE, you will get a average product that everyone who understands knows you’re just a poser who can’t afford a “Real Range Rover Sport” aka the V8 versions. Because with 517+ HP and a 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds ( that’s faster than a 996 porsche Carrera) or 4.3 with the SVR ( faster than my 2013 E92 M3 with DCT) PLUS the luxury PLUS the world class off roading. It’s not a choice it’s a no brainer. Lambo suv will be faster but less comfortable for all passengers and worse off roading performance and probably less comfortable seats. Bentley will be way worse off-road, marginal upgrade in comfort at best most likely no difference just style, better performance and way worse styling. Rolls Royce is just No! It’s really just an oversized phantom. G36 Amg is 167 (with options) shorter no air suspension more road noise and equal or better off road. So if you have, as near as makes no difference 100k to spend on an SUV buy a Range Rover Sport 2019. Yes there is some lag with the infotainment (but it always ends up working) but reliability is much better than expected from multiple stories of people owning older Rovers (2016). The Range Rover Sport and full-size is simply the greatest SUV ever created by man in the history of man. While all other car makers try and replicate it and come up short

So far, so good. Just what I expected. Used to own a 2006 Range Rover Sport which was purchased one year old. Minor issues and overall liked the car. This one is light years ahead of the old one in every aspect. Fingers crossed over future issues. Disappointed there was no remote start or read heated seats which were standard on my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Seems like that would be standard fair. Otherwise, I'm very happy.

First, it’s the best looking SUV on the road with classic lines and simple elegance. It’s anything BUT simple, however, and it’s capable off-road and provides a smooth ride for long trips. The fit and finish should be a little better for the price, but it’s still head and shoulders over the other vehicles in it’s class. The hybrid works best if you drive short distances often. I’ve noticed a substantial savings in gas because this is how we use it. I read above where someone has a problem with the engine light going on. We have this problem too. I figured out it means nothing. I think it has to do with the air intake, and the quality of the air. It goes away and then doesn’t come back on for many months, so just an annoyance and one I can easily live with. Same with the plug-in. Make sure you see the white lights on before plugging in. The driving performance is excellent, with a quick response and tight steering, especially with the battery charged. The biggest mechanical complaint I have is the way the car will lurch unexpectedly when reversing at times. It scares me because you think you hit something. The high ride and excellent visibility make this car a pleasure to drive, which no other luxury SUV could match for us. My single biggest complaint—I think the standard vanity mirrors should be much better than they are.

I have had my Range Rover for like a year now and no issues screen glitches some times in 100+ degree weather at times but other times it’s a great car.
