I have the 2014 Sport 2.4L 6 speed automatic (Hyundai transmission, not CVT) that I bought new in 2013 and have maintained. Currently at 152,xxx miles and I still use it as a daily driver. It's been a great car for what I paid for it. Maintenance costs through the years have been very low. Only things that have needed replacing are a wheel bearing, shocks and struts, control arms, motor mounts, and serpentine...all very reasonable repairs for an economy SUV that's made it 152,xxx miles and 10 years.

I just sold my 2014 Jeep Patriot after purchasing it in the fall of 2013. Pros: The parts are fairly inexpensive to replace. Cons: After 80000 miles, you’re going to be replacing them frequently. Throttle Body, crank shaft and shaft sensor, rebuilding of entire wheel assemblies, suspension gone after 80k miles, radiator fan issues, and the worst interior as far as comfort goes in any car I have owned. My friends and I refer the patriot as a “tin can”. Avoid the cheaply made 2014 at all costs. Yeah d you do have one, sell it before the curve of repair costs resembles the COVID-19 infection spread rate.

Bought it relatively new, used for long trips back and forth about 400 miles total per trip maybe two or three times a month for the last 3 years. Uncomfortable ride that destroyed my back. Really awful interior and tiny cargo space compared to most SUV's like it. At 120k miles need to have the whole back redone, suspension issues, new breaks needed.. Super bouncy, grinding ride at about 90k miles. Lights are a headache to access and replace. Light above rear view mirror leaks in the rain. And the body is cheap, I barely brushed against another vehicle and it made a huge dent in my vehicle (not even a scratch on the other vehicle). Cheap plastic everything. Only benefit is its small enough to get good parking spots in the city lol

Poor performance. I already need new brakes (15,000 miles). Exterior seems flimsy and too light weight. Excessive road noise Definitely would NEVER buy again

I bought this car new in 2013 - the 4x4 sport manual with AC added - for $16k. Over the years, I have been so good to her. At every milestone, I take my Jeep in to a reputable mechanic to have it serviced. I've relied on biking and transit for the past 8 years, so I only use it for large grocery trips or highway drives. After almost 11 years of use, I'm at about 75k miles. Pros: I love a simple car. I love that it has crank windows and manual locks. I love driving a manual. I don't care that it doesn't accelerate quickly. I love the brake assist on hills - I have almost never stalled on a hill. The gas mileage has been really great for an SUV - I average 25-30 mpg. Back when I lived in a snowy suburb, it handled incredibly well during the winter. One year, we got 140" of snow - never once had an issue driving 7 miles to and from work. Cons: It has handled poorly in the rain. The more annoying thing has been driving in the mountains: I am in third on the highway sometimes just trying to get up a hill. I towed a small trailer across the country when I moved, and I couldn't have gone over 60 if I wanted to. Like others said, the body seems like it's made out of tin - a tiny bump makes a major dent/scratch. Repairs have been expensive. I had a small electric issue with the rear brake light that cost nearly $1,000 to fix. Last year, I had to get all new tires, brakes, shocks, transmission fluid, spark plugs, and I don't even remember what else for a little over $3k. And this year, I've begun hearing the dreaded angry transmission noises, and I am fairly certain I will retire this car before it even hits 90,000 miles. Was it worth $20k+ for ~11 years of very cautiously driving and very steadfastly maintaining a simple car? As someone who gets around on a $200 bike most of the time, no. Next time, I'll spend more to get a more reliable car. Update: Transmission is shot! It would cost $7k to repair. No thanks!!!
