Great Vehicle
I purchased my 2004 Jeep Liberty Ltd. in November, Fortunately we have had plenty of snow for me to try this thing out. Found an empty parking lot with about 8 to 12 inches of snow in it and i was very very pleased at what this Jeep will do. With this motor it had plenty of torque and went through it without bogging down one bit. I currently have 5200km on it and have no major complaints. The only thing i can complain about and that most other people do is the gas mileage(20-21 imperial miles per gallon in mixed driving). The other is a small and useless glovebox. That being said i still would recommend this vehicle to anyone .
I Love my Liberty!
My Liberty is great. I have sunroof and satellite radio. I love the window controls in the middle now my kids will not bother the windows. I just look for excuses to leave the house so I can drive it. The gas mileage isn't all that good but I honestly don't care. Im for sure keeping my Liberty; no more trading in me if I do Im getting another Liberty.

It's a Jeep!
Having owned and off-roaded a Wrangler previously, when looking for some more practicality we chose the Liberty. It is quieter, more comfortable, etc. than the Wrangler, of course; but it is also a REAL off-roader unlike the other wannabes from Ford, Hyundai, Honda, et al. Fuel consumption is reasonable at 20.5-21.5 mpg with V6 and the 6 speed manual (who else has such an option anywhere?). Build quality is very good, structurally much tighter than what I have experienced with Explorers, Trailblazers even Discoverys. Finally, for all the discussion on gas guzzling and pollution, the 3.7l is an ULEV certified engine.
MY 3rd Jeep pc of crap
My Jeep is a pure highway vehicle, as my previous 3 were. My first 2 had $3K transmission problems at 80K miles, my 3rd, a lease, made several dealer repair visits. I bought the CRD because of the Mercedes built diesel but realize that anything Chrysler touches get messed up. I have 70K miles on the Jeep as it sits in the repair shop getting a new turbo. Stay away from Jeep, my 400,000 miles in 4 different models has shown they are recall/repair nightmares!
Happy Diesel Owner
I know have 42000 miles on this vehicle and except for the replacement of the ERG sensor at 8000, I have had no problems with the Jeep. I have gotten as high as 31 mpg in the summer but in the winter time (Upstate NY) it typically gets around 21 mpg. Workmenship has been good but the original stock tires are garbage. I would not hesitate to buy this vehicle again.
Jeep Liberty Diesel
This in one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. The desel allows me to tow a good size trailer and still get good mileage. I usually run bio-diesel that is an outstanding value. All in all, this is a great car and I would buy another one, if Jeep was smart enough to keep making them. It is a perfect size.
Awesome Ride!
I LOVE this car! I wanted something that wasn't too "soccer momish" and this is PERFECT! Handles very much like a truck, but that was also what I wanted.
I love my Jeep Liberty
today i bought my Jeep Liberty , and I had to drive it home from the dealership in a blizzard.. The weather was horrible, but I felt safe. I was very impressed how it handled the road.
Great Jeep
Bought new in 8/05 and have 70,000 miles by 8/09. Simply I have had no problems with this vehicle. The only work has been one recall and regular maintenance. The a/c works great, the transmission shifts tight and smooth and I've been getting 21mpg mixed city and highway. I like the heavy solid feel and great visibility. I have not taken the Liberty off road much but when I have it has performed well. Overall I could not ask for better.
iownajp
I love my JEEP; the only downfall is the gas mileage. Other than that, I am a JEEP lover.
Only in a Jeep
The Liberty follows the true Jeep tradition of unparalleled off-road capability. If you actually use 4x4 then Jeep is the only real choice. I'd never even consider anything else.
Great 4X4
I haven't owned a Jeep since 1985, but my new Liberty has made it worth the wait. This has got to be the most awesome Jeep ever. Look out Hummer!
Liberty CRD
Fun diesel to drive, lots of torque, good fuel mileage, but the seats are constructed out of park bench material. The hardest seats I have ever set in. Even my Wrangler was better.
Liberty 4x4
Love that Liberty. Great vehicle, good engine power, okay gas mileage, and never been stranded or stuck in the mud.
'05 diesel
Fit & finish far superior to other American cars (maybe the Benz influence?); diesel runs very strong, good mileage (average about 24mpg). So far (3500 miles) very happy with purchase; got rid of '00 Xterra.
so far, so good
I have only had my car for a month now. I am pretty happy with it so far. It's a fun car to own and to drive. I was very disappointed to find that the 20 mpg was a dream that I would never reach. I really hated my car in the beginning because of the terrible service of my dealer. I am still trying to get over it and not blame the car. This car is definitely not a car to be driven above 75 mph.
Liberty by Russian
Great price. Super solid -- no squeaks and no rattles, amazingly strong structure, no wonder great safety reviews, feel confident when my wife drives it. Rear limited slip differential is a must to put power down and for safe handling when raining. A little better material inside and 5-speed auto would make it the Mercedes Benz among small SUVs, but for $26k minus the rebates and dealer's discounts you can't blame them. Precise and fun car overall. Totally recommend it.
The perfect car for me
This vehicle is nice to look at and so much fun to drive. It is diffinitely not a bumpy riding car. There is plenty of room for storage.
Tough little truck
I'm quite happy with this vehicle. The full-time 4WD performs well in deep snow and on rutted, muddy roads, and also on wet pavement. The V6 is powerful and relatively thrifty given the weight of the vehicle (15.5-17.5 mpg city, 23 mpg on a long highway drive). The fuel economy improved substantially after 3000 miles. The brakes are strong and the optional ABS system has already saved me a few times. The vehicle easily towed a 1000 lb trailer and load. The standard factory stereo is decent sounding. The vehicle handles well on the road, but even better when things get rough
2005 Jeep Liberty Diesel Review
Today's diesels are nothing like yesteryear. They are fast, clean, quiet and efficient. I average 27 mpg with my mostly highway driving. Acceleration can give you *whiplash* About half of the local service stations sell diesel fuel and there is never a line to get at the pump. I'm extremely happy about switching to diesel. Hybrids are good if you live in the city with stop and go traffic. For suburbanites, diesel is the smart thing to do. Hey -- if worse ever came to worse, I could burn old french fry oil. :-)
Fun Machine
Great looks and fun to drive! I was really impressed with the way this compact SUV handles. It might be a little stiff in the suspension for some people, but it feels solid. The doors and hatch close easy. Fit and finish is great and it is a beauty. I have the Atlantic Blue color with a sun roof. This Liberty is one of the best cars I have owned. Road clearance is great without using a ladder to get into the drivers seat. The tires have an aggressive tread without producing the typical tire noise. A "Off road" beauty with comfort and style. Although I am biased, I am a owner!
First Jeep ever
This is my first Jeep ever, but second diesel powered vehicle. Have about 1050 miles on it and am still discovering the vehicle. Had a failure at 586 miles. A spike wiped the engine controller and it had to be re-flashed. Works fine otherwise. Construction of this Jeep is very robust and the fit and finish is on par with what the Japanese give you. Engine is strong with excellent power and smoothness. Transmission is generally smooth but a little harsh until warmed up. Great seating, once you get it the way you want it. Good handling and ride once you get rid of the Goodyear garbage tires that come on the Jeep. I would recommend this Jeep in a heartbeat!
Brakes
I have had concerns with the rear brakes so took it to Codiroli Service department. They checked it out and said they couldn't find anything wrong. Continued to feel something wrong with the way my car was acting when I used the brakes. Also, had a noise coming from the rear of the car. Sounded like something was moaning. This noise is loud when I first start driving and than gets less loud after I have driven it a few miles. Took car in for first service (3,000 mile) and was told there is a recall for the brakes but can't fix them until the recall notices have been sent out. I find this very upsetting.. This problem should be fixed immediately. Why do I have to wait? Other than this I like my car.
I love my Jeep
We got the car a week ago, our first SUV. It is great. Fun to drive, decent pick up, a great stereo, with steering wheel controls. The seats are comfortable and easy to see out of, even for my 5' 2" wife. Best of all, it's American, so the manufacturer offers lots of incentives - we got $2000 cash back plus 0% for 5 years.
best decision I've made
Well, this is truly fun to drive, with a stiffer but comfortable ride. Interior is well designed. The cloth seats are of excellent quality, appearance, and comfort. This is the first 4WD I have had and it's GREAT. Gets through snow and ice covered roads deliciously. Have about 700 miles on it, and I am getting better than 18mpg; not bad. My wife and I battle over who gets to drive it. (I win most of the time, I'm the boss and she said I could say that. PS: good power with the 3.7l!
Jeep Liberty
I love my Jeep Liberty. It is very reliable and suits my everyday needs. I am very excited about the new Jeep Commander. I can't wait to see it in person. I am seriously considering trading Liberty in for the Commander. It was love at first sight!
replacing great Jeep Grand Cherokee
I love it. I hope it holds up, I think parts and service could be costly with so few sold. $25.00+ for a fuel filter?
BEST CAR EVER OWNED!!!
I bought my jeep in 2009 with only 33,000 miles on it. I haven't had a single problem with it since the day I've gotten it, and I love it so much! I've had cars in the past that were awful, and my jeep is truly dependable and reliable. My family has owned jeeps, and will never own anything but Jeeps! If you are looking for value for your dollar, the Jeep Liberty Sport is worth every penny!
There's Only One
Without doubt or hesitation the most fun I've had in any vehicle I've owned in 25 years. This is a REAL off-road vehicle not a tall car with 4WD. The perfect combination of on-road manners and off-road go-anywhere ability. A bit thirsty but this is a tough, solidly built truck. I've driven past half a dozen broken GMC and Ford vehicles on trails and I'm sure they get worse mileage. This truck has taken some of the toughest trails in N. America (Moab for instance). Nearly all the capability of a Wrangler with twice the comfort!
Jeep Liberty, the reliable Jeep
This is a great car that goes anywhere in comfort and gets you back safely. It's small and agile, but large enough to haul anything for a house or cabin. In a year of driving many miles the only thing its needed is oil changes.
Diesel Liberty
Still too new to give a thorough review but love it so far. A little concerned about the care of a diesel and want to try the biodiesel fuel. Very fun to drive and with a bad back, its very easy to get in and out of. The CD player got very hot its first time out so not happy about that, but perhaps we played it too long? Although I don't think that should matter. My son is taller so he was not as comfortable.
Jeep owner
Absolutely love the vehicle, so far. Bought it in July. The only thing that I haven't really enjoyed is the fact that when I filled it the first time, and calculated the miles per gallon, it was at 15. I traded a Hyundai Elantra to get it, and I am used to about 25 mpg. It definitely does take a lot of gas, but if you don't drive a lot, it's the perfect vehicle.
Love my Liberty!
My Liberty is a definite upgrade from my '00 Neon that was totalled. I bought the Liberty based on exhaustive research and an excellent deal from being a recent college graduate (1% below invoice plus rebates). Got mine fully equipped with Sirius satellite radio, sunscreen tinted glass, power sunroof, and all-terrain tires. The V6 gives it awesome power. I don't really intend on going off-road, I just wanted a secure vehicle for New England winters, and I definitely have it!
2005 Jeep Renegade 4X4
I traded in my 2001 Camaro SS for this vehicle. I needed a practical vehicle for every day driving. It's awesome in the snow. I flew by other new vehicles which got stuck in the snow. It's great for when I go shopping with my wife. It has great room and very comfortable. I test drove other vehicles before purchasing this one such as the Chevy Equinox and Mazda 3. The Jeep outperformed both and is much more quiet and smooth on the road. The off road lights are very bright. Forget about xenon lights, these are much brighter! Ground clearance is perfect. Gas mileage is what you'd expect from an SUV. As long as you drive it normally it's good on gas. I really enjoy driving my new Jeep!!
I Love My Jeep
I had been wanting a Jeep Liberty since they first debuted. I can remember the first time I saw one on the road. I was like...."Wow." So it was really the exterior appearance that struck me. The front end is so gorgeous. Especially on the new ones with the chrome grille. (Mine is a 2005 Limited.) It runs well, accelerates well, and you feel safe travelling on the interstate at high speeds, unlike on some other smaller SUV's, where you feel like you are all over the road. I had a 2000 Chevy Tracker, and to go from that to this Liberty is a total improvement. It handles well. I haven't had a chance to test out the 4 WD extenxively yet, or operate in the snow.
Just buy it!
I have been driving Toyotas for years and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality, ride, power and economy of my CRD. I bought the Sport CRD with Tow package for $22,600 - brand new - what a bargain. Toyota can't touch that price. I get 23 - 28.5 mpg which is incredible for a true 4x4. So far so good!
Very Impressed
This is my first American car purchase in over 15 years. I was impressed with the Liberty right from the test drive. This is a fun to drive SUV, with plenty of power and refinement. This is also my first Jeep, and from the looks of it, won't be my last. I would highly recommend putting the Liberty on your shopping list if you are seeking a great little SUV. Even if you are skeptical of American made cars (like I was), give the Liberty a look, it will be well worth your time.
TOO BAD, SO SAD ...
Bought my Liberty CRD brand new with 222 miles on it. Within one year, had two recalls where I was without vehicle for a week w/ no replacement. Replaced EGR valve and sensor after 2 years, now 1 1/2 years later, have to replace again. Very expensive fix and Chrysler and dealer won't do anything about it. Why buy brand new (or from Chrysler) if their vehicles constantly are in the shop? Regular maintenance, tires, brakes, etc. understandable, but these big ticket items are ridiculous! Never again. (Too bad, though. I was soooo excited to get this vehicle! Always a huge fan of Jeep and Dodge, but this has completely soured my taste for all things Chrysler).
CRD - Lemon?
I was so excited about this vehicle when I read about it. Got one and it has not run right yet. It misses, surges, and gets poor mileage. Dealer service people are baffled about why. Am still working on the problem by checking fuel quality while limping the vehicle around. Had to be towed once, and it is so much fun driving not knowing when your vehicle will quit again.
Love My Liberty!
I am so glad I chose to purchase my 2005 Jeep Liberty! Driving the Liberty is a wonderful experience. It handles very well. With the weight of the vehicle and the 6 cylinder, I feel very safe and driving is a dream, whether going up steep inclines or just touring around. There is a feeling of proud ownership that comes with owning my Liberty. The color (Dark Khaki), is new for 2005 and what a classy color! I have added a few accessories which gives it my personal identity. I am totally satisfied. The dealership, the service, and the sales department have been wonderful. The Liberty is THE SUV!
To Be Driven
Excellent performance in and out of traffic, Wet road handling 4-wheel part time is outstanding!
love that Liberty
I am enjoying driving my Liberty for errands and long trips. All passengers are very comfortable. It's a real pleasure to go shopping. There is plenty of room for packages.
Jeep Liberty Sport
It is a reliable and dependable vehicle. The seating is comfortable and has a pleasing interior design. I am very disappointed with window switch location. Some better human engineering is required in arrangement of these switches.
Fun Ride
I loved the look of the Liberty Renegade vs the Sport and Limited. Stick with the V6, I find it to have better pick-up. Best way to go on this vehicle is when its fully loaded. Only mistake I made was getting it in black since it looks like its always dirty (but hey its a Jeep right? That's what gives it its character!) Very comfortable ride on pavement.
Jeep Liberty changed my Pure-Jeep mind
I am a hardcore Jeep fanatic. At first, I thought it was shocking to see Jeep was replacing the legendary Cherokee. Like most Jeepheads, I thought the Liberty just didn't belong in the Jeep family. However, after totaling my Cherokee I took a chance. The Liberty performs just as well as the Cherokee, but with comfort and style that the Cherokee lacks. (And it looks good next to my CJ-5 too!)
Happy.......with a few quirks
In the over-all we love our liberty! Mpg's are not stellar but considering she's a go any where 4x4 and 5400 lbs., not bad! No Major problems but the factory specified routine maintenance costs a small fortune. Fun, safe, peppy (3.7l) comfortable and capable on road and off. One annoying rattle emanating from the rear swing- gate/Glass region with no resolution to the problem in sight, many liberty owners with the same complaint! Very maddening considering a 24k price tag! Maybe "it's a Jeep thing" haha. Other than that we're pleased, let's hope it has the longevity of the Honda crv that we chose it over! Long live the liberty!
Lifetime Jeeper
I am a lifetime Jeeper owner. I had my Wrangler for 10 years before I got the Liberty. I think that I knew that I wanted it the second that I saw it at a local car show. This is definitly the "grown up" version of the Wrangler. It has more space, go power and overall class than the other compact SUV's. The Liberty has a style all it's own, and is simply unmistakable on the road. Simply put... It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand. :)
Very disappointed.....
I have to say I love the way the Liberty looks on the inside and outside. I was so excited to find an SUV that was so classy. Unfortunately, I have experienced some problems with the transmission/4WD. The car gets stuck in reverse. I then I have to turn it off and on. It's been in to get fixed and no one can find anything wrong with it. Although Chrysler does a fantastic job of making their vehicles look good, but the reliability is just not there. It's a shame! Mine only has 12,000 miles and I'm going to get rid of it. I just can't trust it.
I'm LOVIN it!
This is the most classy, reliable fun car I have ever had. It's extremely maneuverable and has a nice ride for being a small SUV. It's got plenty of storage space in the back considering it's a small vehicle. I have not had any problems in ANY type of weather and I've pretty much encountered it all (rain, snow, ice, strong gusts of wind, hail).
Life saver
Owned 10 or more previous vehs. (3rd brand new). Over 116k miles later wouldn't trade it for the world. The handling and stability saved our lives - kept us from even having the accident (another driver made left from oncoming lane 50-75 feet in front of us while traveling approx. 55 mph) I Love the tight steering. Original brakes went 84k and still had plenty left. Will be passing on to children.
