I bought this Trooper from the original owner who had 6 vehicles (different makes). The Trooper was given mainly oil changes, new clutch, radiator flush and that's it. When I bought it the odometer had 132,000 on it so I invested $3,500 in new B.F. Goodrich tires, re-wiring engine wires that gone bad, new a/c compressor, new shocks, TUNE-UP and a few other things that needed to be done. I change the oil every 3,000 miles, get good gas mileage especially on the highway. I've only driven on pavement and dirt roads but haven't taken it on the hills yet. But, I can say after all is said now, this is a great well built SUV to own!

These things are indestructible!! It’s more than a boxy suv on wheels. I bought mine used with 78k miles on it in 2001. Still have it and it has well over 200k miles on it and still going. Air is still ice cold, stereo still works great, it doesn’t leak, use or burn oil. Amazing. 4x4 still engages perfectly. I have the 2.6 model that is pretty bare boned with a 5-speed tranny and the gas mileage is still about 26 on the highway. The only problem I have which is common on the first gen troopers is body rust. I have rust around the wheel wells but not much and it’s easily fixable. I love this suv and if I can find another one (they’re popular with enthusiasts) I’d buy it in an instant.

Well what can i say i have owned two Isuzu's a 1990 Trooper that has 199,000 miles and a 1999 Rodeo With 102,000 miles these are great suv's I am only 18 years old and have grown up around cars ranging from Fiats to Mercedes (first car-300SDL). Don't get me wrong i'm not saying that an Isuzu can equal a Mercedes in anything except price but for the money spent there is not better automoblies avalible.

Super Under-rated Vehicle

Trooper XS- 2.8L V6 Manual. I have 4 wheeled throughout the west. Bought used in Aug. 2000 @ 157,000 miles. In Spet 2002, it has 205,000. Same complaints as the others (low highway power, poor cornering etc). As long as I drive it like a truck and not a coupe, it runs well. It burns 1 quart oil/1500 miles. Gets about 16-20 mpg. In sub freezing weather, she takes a while to warm up, but runs without a problem. I towed a trailer with about 1500 pounds of stuff, cross country with my only problems being lack of power over the continental divide (I did this in August across the southern US without overheating). Overall, above average vehicle.
