Frustrating infotainment and safety features

LAF, 04/27/2023

Unless you want to be Googling “Hyundai Tucson CarPlay not working Reddit” every week, save yourself a migraine and do not get this car. The infotainment system is some of the buggiest tech I’ve ever used. The aux cord and Bluetooth rarely ever work consistently if at all, so be prepared to unsafely hold your phone up with one hand if you need GPS. Based on my many Google searches, this seems to be a consistent bug with this car. The safety features are too “smart” for their own good and lack intuition. The sensors will detect obstacles that definitely aren’t there and force your car into a full brake which has ironically forced us into unsafe scenarios. I 100% regret getting this car and wish we could break our 3 year lease.

Fell in love in 10 minutes

Two years ago I traded in my beloved 2012 Subaru Outback for a Tucson Hybrid Limited in Amazon Gray. 10 minutes after leaving the dealership, I had a new fav. The Tucson Hybrid had a more comfortable ride and more power than the Outback. The advanced safety features were worth every penny. The styling elicited many favorable comments. Mileage may not be the best in its class, but 36 mpg ain’t bad.

2022 Hyundai Tucson POS

I bought my Hyundai Tucson in Aug22, I immediately had issues with the transmission or something shifting too early, car's RPMs would rev high into red zone when I accelerated and it had no power. Edmond Tucson in Oklahoma was no help at all ... took it to dealers a few times and got the run around since diagnostics showed nothing. Fast forward to May22, my navigation panel goes out. Tulsa Hyundai reset the computer and it worked again. Now, in Nov23, my audio went out ...today, my blinkers aren't working. My theory is that the 2022+ years Tucson vehicles are Covid cars...low supply of parts resulting in low quality parts. I even test drove a few Tucsons that were on the lot after I bought mine...they had the same transmission issues. Hyundai is aware of the issues but isn't doing recalls. You need to take the vehicle in for the same repair 3 times before you can take action. But hey, if the " diagnostics" are within the permissible thresholds, you are on your own to fight for what is right. Never will I buy a Hyundai again!!! Even corporate Hyundai did not help me.

Terrible MPG

So I thought at first it was my dream car then after having it for six months I found out a few things. The sound it makes when it backs up is really obnoxiously loud, embarrassing. The touch screen is beautiful but I miss having buttons, also the screens collect a lot of lint/dirt. The leather is not very durable I already have a small hole in the back seats. The back seat cup holders only hold small kid size cups, very annoying! When backing up even without a vehicle in the way if it has even a small sign of a vehicle it will slam on the break, also annoying. Now the MPG issue I have never gotten the advertised 38 mpg! I average 27-29 in the city/highway, not what I was expecting- I could have spent less and gotten a gas vehicle with similar mpg!!! I also had to wait 6 months to get a spare key because they were on back order through Hyundai. The car is pretty and functional even though sluggish but most hybrids are. The backseat has good leg room. I wish it got the advertised mpg- very disappointing!!

Bluelink not working!

Danielle, 11/09/2022

My Bluelink wasn't working from the start (February 2022). This is not a feature I was particularly concerned about, but since I had just bought a new car I felt it was important that everything was in working order. After a few calls to Bluelink things worked for a short while. When it failed again (May 2022), it took many calls and many hours and 4 weeks to get my car to the dealer (June 2022). It then sat at the dealer (Lia in Albany, NY) for nearly 3 week before the dealer and Bluelink could get their acts together and replace the head unit. In September of 2022 I noticed Bluelink wasn't working again. I waited until October to submit a new ticket because I knew what a headache it would be to deal with them. Hours spent on the phone again. I was told it needed to go to the dealer. More calls unreturned from Lia Hyundai in Albany. An appointment made and cancelled because they can't provide a loaner car. I called to get a new appointment. No return call again. The whole experience has been awful. I owned a Tuscon from 2005-2020 and loved it. This has been so frustrating.

Hybrid Limited Trim but Unlimited Quality & Value

As gas approaches $4 a gallon again this summer, this safe, well appointed, extremely quiet SUV delivers high mpg (35 to 37) with all the bells and whistles anyone could possibly want. Update at 10500 miles: this is a well designed, fun to drive medium sized SUV combining a terrific hybrid with a turbo that produces the 36 to 37 mpg mentioned before. Only improvements I would make to this vehicle would be better nighttime driving lights, add fog lights, and get a real shifter not the electronic one.

Wish I would have waited…

I watched a ton of reviews and decided that this was going to be my next vehicle purchase. It has a lot of bang for your buck which is nice, however my car has been in the shop for a check engine light 5 times before it’s first oil change. It drives extremely well and visually I think it’s an eye catcher. If I stick to freeway driving I can get 32 MPG’s which I would consider pretty good for it’s size and original MSRP. In town it can drop to 22-24 depending on traffic. It does well in the snow and hiding the windshield wiper under the top of the trunk lid was a gift for those who live in the north. It doesn’t ice up! If you’re looking for a small SUV with a ton of features for a reasonable price this may be the vehicle for you! However if check engine lights make you concerned maybe proceed with caution until the bugs get worked out. I certainly hope they do because I would like to keep this vehicle for awhile.

the good and the bad

I got this car at the end of january, until recently I had no issues and it is an awesome first car. While driving one day, when I was backing out of my garage the engine started revving for about a miniute and it eventually subsided, but as soon as I got on the main road, the car would not accelerate. I made sure it was in drive multiple times and even if I floored it, it would not go over about 10 miles an hour. Really strange and scary and unpredictable. This car only has about 1000 miles on it so really surprised. Overall this car has been a dream besides this incident.
