We had our car for 3 months and it was great. We seldom filled it up with gas and as we mainly drive around town that was not too often. I was also very surprised that they hydro actually went down compared to the year before so it was not too hard on the hydro bill. But then one day I was dropping my wife off at a friend's place and when I went to reverse the car it went into neutral and would not leave. I had to have it towed to the dealership and that was over 2 months ago and they are still telling me it might be another month before I get it back. I have been told that it is a 300 amp fuse that needs replaced but first it needs to be built in South Korea. Hyundai Canada has provided me with a rental car in the meantime, but I do miss my Tucson.

I've only had my Tucson Ltd PHEV for 3 months and so far it's been much nicer than I could have imagined. I've had 2 RAV4s a 2007 and a 2017 Ltd Hybrid. This Tucson is much better than the RAV's in every way. The ride is more comfortable, smoother & quieter, the sound system is way better, has a great panoramic roof and the technology is far more advanced. On a 1000 mi round trip (Palm Springs to SF Bay) ventilated seats, assisted cruise control & steering plus the great sounds - the trip was easy & enjoyable. Hyundai's 10y/100k power train & hybrid/electric sys., 5y- 24/7 roadside assist, 5y/60k new vehicle, 7yr/unlimited Anti-perforation and 3 yrs free maintenance. Other's can't match it. My only complaints are: 1. The small 11 gal. gas tank; it would have been better if could managed 2 or 3 gals more to increase total range. 2. I regret paying way over MSRP. Since it was the only Ltd PHEV (in the color & interior we liked) available within 300 mi of my car search. However, as gas keeps raising and with the $6587 Fed Tax Credit. I'm feeling much better. This is my first Hyundai and I'm impressed by build quality and technology of the Tucson. Time will tell but I think Hyundai made an great SUV.

Update 3/8/24: We've hit the 2-year mark, and just under 20K miles. Continue to be very, very happy with it. The Tucson PHEV is a great way to put your toes in the water with EVs - being able to do full electric for up to 33 miles, while having the flexibility of an ICE for longer trips, is a great balance. We're adding solar at our home this spring, so we traded in our other car (2023 Elantra Hybrid) last week to go full electric with a 2024 Kona EV. Don't get me wrong - the Elantra was a great car. But being able to drive on sunbeam power that we'll be producing, was a big draw to jump to the Kona EV for my daily commuter. If you're thinking about the Tucson PHEV, go check one out and take a drive. You might end up taking it home like we did! Update 8/29/23: We now have about 15,000 miles on our 2022 Tucson PHEV Limited. Very, very happy with this car, easy to drive, great in the snow, comfortable on long trips, great safety features. We bought a 2023 Elantra Hybrid Limited because we were so happy with the Tucson, and we're loving the Elantra as well (getting over 55mpg with the Elantra during the summer). Really appreciate the high-end features like heated AND cooled seats and all of the driving safety features on both cars. Well done, Hyundai! Original Review: We bought our 2022 Tucson PHEV Limited in March, and have put 6000 miles on it thus far. We’ve had many cars (this is car #22), mostly Hondas/Acuras; this is our first Hyundai, and it’s fantastic. So many high-end features, great hybrid mileage, and even in fully electric mode, it just zips right along. Very happy with this car.

We’ve had our 2022 Hyundai Tucson plug-In Limited for a little more than a year, and we love this vehicle. During the time we’ve had it, our Tucson has averaged nearly 80 miles per gallon. Most of our driving is around town, but we have taken two or three trips of several hundred miles each. I usually go a month or more before having to buy gas. With the high price of fuel, we have saved hundreds of dollars on the first year of ownership. What is especially nice is that besides the impressive fuel economy, the Tucson has plenty of power, is fun to drive, looks great, and rides very smoothly. The Limited model comes with nearly every safety feature ever invented, a great sound system, and nice features such as a panoramic sun roof and heated and air conditioned seats. Because it is a plug-in hybrid, the Tucson qualifies for full-time access to HOV freeway lanes, so I zoom past congested traffic with a smile on my face. We paid approximately $46,000 for our Tucson, but with state and federal rebates and incentives totaling $10,000, we feel like we got a good deal on an excellent vehicle. Also very nice is the knowledge that we are using far less gas than we used to, significantly reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.

Flawed vehicle, go with the Rav4 Prime

I owned a 2023 Tucson Limited PHEV for seven months. I had high hopes for the vehicle but it disappointed me in several ways. Some of its flaws didn't become apparent until I had driven it for a month or two. First off was the suspension. The thing feels like a cheap economy car when you are going over rough pavement, not like an SUV. I don't know if the suspension is too tightly sprung or what not, but even little imperfections in the pavement impact the vehicles steering and are not becoming of an SUV. It is surprising that it feels this way given that the car appears to have a robust suspension. The second big thing that came up with this vehicle was a slight pause in acceleration when you come to a stop. I live in a very busy urban area outside of Boston and it is simply not acceptable for the car to 'stall' as you are trying to quickly make a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. That is a serious safety flaw in the car and I think a recall should be made to correct this. Hyundai dealers will tell you this is 'normal' and the way the car was designed, and basically dismiss your concern because that's the way they operate. Online forums indicate that this issue is widespread with Hyundai hybrids/plugins. The car doesn't have a heat pump for heat. If you live in a cool/cold climate that means that your gas engine is coming on/off over and over throughout like 60% of the year if you live in the Northeast. The engine MUST come on to heat the car even at 55 degrees. I found myself turning the heat off even on chilly days as the engine coming on was just annoying and I bought this car for the purpose of NOT burning gas around town. That is the reason you pay the premium for this car over the regular Tucson, so it basically nullifiies the utility in the plugin setup for half the year. You might as well buy the Hybrid Limited for $5k less if you live in a cold climate as you aren't going to save much more on fuel. The car has 260 horsepower but you wouldn't know it most of the time. It seems to have an issue fully engaging the electric and gas engine especially off the line, and it seems to have different ways of dealing with a demand for more power. Things to not work smoothly between the electric, gas and auto transmission. I traded up to a Rav4 Prime and this thing is a dream in comparison to the Hyundai. I find the interior much easier to manage, the car has 40 more horsepower but it feels like 80 more horsepower than the Hyundai. This thing is incredibly fast and smooth. It has TEN MILES more EV range than the Hyundai! That is a big deal with a plug in, and puts this thing in a whole different class amoungst PHEVs. Everything works exactly as you want it to. The car has a heat pump and has never turned the engine on for me when the battery is charged, even on a 20 degree day. The suspension works just as you want it to and the thing literally feels like a Tacoma going over bumps. Bumps are appropriately muted and smoothed out by the suspension. There is no annoying beeping when the car is backing up, all 4 doors engage the unlock feature (great with kids), there is a heads up display and rearview mirror cam. The heated seats are MUCH better than those in the Hyundai and the seats are more comfortable as well. This is a stellar example of a PHEV and it is unbelievable to me that Edmunds ranks the Toyota at 6 and the Hyundai at #1. Doesn't make any sense. The Toyota might cost a little more (not currently as Toyota offering $6500 lease and immediately buy option, making car like $45k with the premium package), but will hold its value MUCH better than the Hyundai. Hyundai PHEV values drop like A ROCK. Lastly I will mention that Hyundai Service is absolutely horrendous in many areas. I checked with 5 different dealers in the Boston area and they are all backed up for like 2 months with recalls and warranty work. They might have a 'great warranty' on paper, but don't be fooled, their service is awful with long waits, limited customer support and oftentimes no loaner cars even offered let alone available. I have never seen anything like this with Honda, Toyota, Subaru etc. 6 week wait for any of your Complimentary Maintenance with Hyundai, even oil changes. Their fail rate also seems to be much higher than other car companies as well, especially their EVs. Edmunds, please rethink your ratings with the PHEVs, they are off!

This is a quick impression of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson plugin hybrid with Limited trim. This vehicle has lots of technology and many safety and convenience features which take some time to learn. I don’t recommend this vehicle to anyone who is not willing to spend the time learning these features to include studying the owner’s manual. Otherwise, I recommend that you consider a lower (and less expensive) trim with fewer capabilities. The owner’s manual can be downloaded here: https://owners.hyundaiusa.com/content/dam/hyundai/us/myhyundai/manuals/glovebox-manual/2022/tucson-phev/2022-Tucson-Phev-Owners-Manual.pdf Styling The styling of the vehicle gets mixed reviews and is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I think it has an attractive appearance that is distinctive but doesn’t look like a Star Wars stormtrooper helmet (i.e. Toyota RAV4). But that’s just me. What’s important to me is that the interior is a pleasant, comfortable, functional, and attractive place to be. There is a risk that a driver new to this car could easily be distracted when trying to find certain controls while driving. I recommend first learning the basics like lights, wipers, etc. that may need adjustments while driving, and practice the other controls while parked until you become very familiar with their operation. Since you paid for the Limited trim, take advantage of all the tech. Safety Tech The list of safety features is long: • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian (FCA-Ped), Cyclist and Junction-Turning Detection • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) • Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) • Driver Attention Warning (DAW) • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) • Lane Following Assist (LFA) • Highway Driving Assist (HDA) • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control with curve control • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) • Safe Exit Warning (SEW) • Ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) • Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist – Reverse (PCA-R) • Parking Distance Warning – forward and reverse • Surround View Monitor (SVM) These features can be turned on or off in the settings menu. This vehicle is rated as Top Safety Pick Plus by the IIHS, and as of this writing the plugin hybrid is not yet rated by the NHTSA. Convenience Tech The list of convenience features is even longer. You plug in to a Level 2 charger for full battery charge in about 2 hours, or you can plug into regular AC for overnight charging. A full charge gets 33 miles of electric-only driving. After that it runs in hybrid mode (gas + regen) I’ve been averaging about 37 mpg in hybrid mode. There is a trip computer and other energy displays you can use to monitor battery usage and fuel use. Overall Impression My impression is biased because I’ve only had this car for about a month and I’m still experiencing new car euphoria. That being said, this is a really exciting and enjoyable ride. I discover new features all the time.

Buy the car a year old and certified. I paid $33,000 when the original msrp new was $46,000 and mine had roughly 6k miles on it. These vehicles tank in value which makes them great when you buy them certified instead of new. And you still get 9 years left on the warranty like mine. The vehicle is easy to drive, it gives the impression its bigger than it is but it drives similar to a sedan because it's a compact suv. There are some great things and some not so good things. Cons: Mpg is terrible on the highway when the battery is depleted. If you drive the speed limit between 60-75mph you get less than 30mpg. If the battery is charged you can get over 80mpge but only for short distance road trips. The range and mpg is greatly impacted in the summer. The only way to get it to a decent mpg is to drive with the ac off which is impossible in desert cities in the summer. The piano black trims and media console are prone to finger prints and scratches. I highly recommend getting after market trim covers to do a piano black delete. Otherwise just don't touch anything in the car and you will be fine.. No wireless android auto. For the price, they really ripped people off on this one. You have to use a USB cable to use android auto which is a bummer and when you do use it, you can't go in full screen, a portion of the screen is cut off by hyundais software. Checking the charge level on the bluelink app is horrible. It doesn't show in real time, so you have to refresh the app and they only let you refresh the app x amount of times a day before they lock you out. I contacted the app developer and told them they need to fix this issue and remove refresh daily limits. The car has this proximity unlock feature, but they for whatever reason chose not to do walkaway lock feature. That decision makes zero sense. And the proximity unlock only works a handful of times, and when it doesn't cooperate you look dumb and end up having to get the key out of your pocket to unlock it anyways. No puddle lamps! No option for auto dimming exterior mirrors, be prepared to get blinded at night when someone is driving behind you. Pros: Auto dimming rearview mirror works well The diffuse ac control is nice when you want to stay cool but don't want to have the ac blasting on you. The car auto stops charging at 100% which saves the battery long term and helps with you electric bull The blue link app allows you to set charge schedules and to set to charge during off peak hours automatically The seats are comfy and the lumbar support is adequate, but it only moved forward and back, they should've made it 4 direction not two, there's a significant difference in comfort. The auto exit seats are convenient with 2 memory settings for the driver The built in navigation works better than the competitors as sometimes better than Google maps. The sound quality is pretty good. I have driven many cadillacs with the upgraded sound systems and although this doesn't match that caliber, it's sufficient enough to enjoy your music on long or short trips. The regen brakes work well, it actually does its job and will continue to charge the battery, little by little. The cabin space is really good for being a compact suv, including leg room in the rear seats. Heated rear seats are a huge bonus. Even my fully loaded cadillac ct5 v did not have heated rear seats. The Ventilated seats don't have the strongest force of air, you barely feel them, but they do still make the seats significantly cooler to the touch in the summer, you just don't really feel the air blowing on you which isn't a horrible thing, the audi q5 vent seats make you feel like you peed your pants when it was on, so I'm fine with the amount of air flow that the hyundai gives. Cabin and engine noise is significantly reduced compared to most cars. It's not cadillac level but it's not too far behind it. Insurance is super inexpensive. And the electric range might seem small but it's enough for regular daily use if you live close to work and in town. The only time I even use gas is on long road trips, which is exactly why I bought a phev instead of a full electric car. The only real downside is they put a tiny fuel tank in this suv, but it's definitely significantly faster to pump gas in it then it is to wait for a full ev to charge which still makes it a convenient option to do electric, combo, or just gas. But keep in mind that if the batter is not charged you get about 300 miles of gas/hybrid range. The extra 120 miles is only available if the battery is charged and it's in auto select mode on city streets. The 360 cam works extremely well and it makes this vehicle so easy to drive through tight areas. Makes it feel like you are driving a compact car. The smart park is convenient in situations where someone parks next to you and leaves you little room to get in the vehicle, but this does not have auto park! Come on hyundai!! Catch up to toyota. The pearl white looks great, I highly recommend that color over any of the other options, the car always looks clean. The vehicle brakes nicely and it responds quickly in emergency situations, you can glide nicely to a stop as well so you don't make your passengers nauseous or give them whip lash like my previous Cadillacs did. The storage in the trunk space is good. There's additional storage under the cargo floor matt. Mine has michelin tires, I highly recommend upgrading to them, they perfected the already good ride quality of the vehicle and reduced tire/road noise significantly. The handling on this car is also relatively good, it will have some slight body roll but it's very minimal, for the most part it holds its ground very well. The panoramic sun roof is a really nice feature, the glass itself only opens about a quarter of the way, but it's enough to make it useful. The blue link app shows you everything about the vehicle from which door is open if the hood is open, if the trunk is open, break fluid info, if the car is running or not, if it's charging, etc. My only complaint is there is no ac controls to change the temperature or turn it on or off, at least not that I could figure out. Over all is this car worth it?? Absolutely, and this is coming from someone who has owned many luxury vehicles, this might not be a luxury vehicle but it is fully loaded and has more luxury features than most luxury cars on the market. It's also easy to drive, inexpensive to maintain and has a low true cost to own. Unless you are planning on keeping the car for the full 10 year warranty, I would recommend buying one that's a year old to save around $10,000.

After picking up my new Tucson Plugin, I drove 500+ miles back home and it handled great. The lane correction was there in case I got drowsey but luckily, it didn't happen. The battery was not charged for me at pickup so I drove home on hybrid only. The mileage increased with each stop. Two things that are not there as with my Sonata Hybrid Limited (and this is a limited also) is 600 miles possible before stopping for gas and the center above sunglass holder! Also, I had to read the manual to find out that the charger is set to 6amp charging with takes forever to charge the battery. I know now that you can charge at 6, 8, 10, or 12 amp speed. Love the automatic windshield wipers! Even better that intermittent setting. Apple play is great with cordless phone charging as well.

Just purchased 2 weeks ago, love it. The tech is what had me choose it over the competition. Specifically love the cameras for parking that not only show the back of the vehicle, but also the front, and the blind spot cameras that pop up live video in the dashboard when you put the turn signals on. Oh and heated and cooling seats. The remote start with forward and reverse when you are near the vehicle, but parking space is too tight to get into the vehicle. Other highlights, it has good power/pick-up. Has lots of interior space. And nice small interior and exterior accent lights. Negatives: the side mirrors do not have motors to fold them in, you have to move them manually. (Not great when someone else folds it in and you are already driving when you realize you can’t use your passenger side mirror.) No space for a spare tire- the batteries are positioned in the middle below the trunk space, if they had been positioned to one side a spare would have fit. Also would love a bit more range on the battery, or a bit faster charge, or both. And I would love a bit tighter turning radius, it’s not bad, but tighter would be nicer.

We bought the Tucson Ultimate Plug In. Definitely not what we expected. Overall a nice riding vehicle but that’s about it. Too many screen distractions. GPS is horrible - we were told we would need to upgrade the GPS at a cost of $400…we just got the car (new) 6 months ago. Ongoing discussion with Hyundai. Not good on fuel at all and we alternate using the battery. Drove it to Florida and it seemed we were constantly filling it. Only 53km on electric. Nowhere on cluster can you check oil life and even though using synthetic oil, has to be changed every 8,000km. Already had a thermostat replacement (9,000km in). Does not compare to our other car - a Honda Civic. Would not recommend to anyone nor would I buy another Hyundai.

The Tucson has been trouble free and the complementary 3 years of maintenance is a plus. The LIMITED trim has all the bells and whistles available and they all work well. Its just under 183" length puts it under most mid size sedans and parking is easy with all of the cameras. The only downside is the MPG in HEV mode on the highway and a small gas tank. At highway speeds the MPG hovers around 25 at best and nowhere near the 36 advertised. The 11 gal. tank limits the range and even with the battery fully charged I have yet to see 300 miles between fill ups without the "low gas" alert warning.

Very satisfied. Great acceleration, good mileage, rides very smoothly but with good road feel. Takes a long time to recharge at home.

When I read the C&D review for the PHEV I was more than surprised at its 9 outta 10 rating. Now, after 6 months, I fully understand why. This tech machine is a dream to operate. It’s many driving modes and features are seamlessly integrated into a comfortable luxury environment that makes getting to destinations the best part of the trip. I'm very happy with my 2023 Tucson PHEV (SEL model). It is a quiet, smooth riding car. All the tech works well. I'm getting great mileage. The gray trim interior with gray seats is very stylish. The car is very enjoyable to drive.

It was missing a feature that i needed which the limited has- other than that drives comfortably, pretty intuitive controls and good features.
