Used 2018 Hyundai Sonata Consumer Reviews
Not a bad car.
Do't believe the EPA figures on this car. I've had 2 straight Sonatas, 2.4 engine. I get 16 city, 31 highway, always on ECO. THe car is comfortable, reliable and attractive. It is quiet. It gives you a lot of amenities but those darn mileage figures won't increase.
Not how bluetooth should work
Have a 2018 sonata se and I am disappointed in how the bluetooth works. On all of my other vehicles I can use the voice command to make calls . I am being told that this does not work on the 2018 Sonata SE. I am being told that I will have to plug my phone in every time I get in and out of the car and use Android ( Samsung galaxy 8) to use the voice command button on the steering wheel. We were not informed that this was how blue tooth worked on the 2018 Sonata SE when we bought the car. Had it to the service department and were told that the Sonata was the only Hyundai model that works this way. Other than this we are satisfied with the car.

Travel in style
I have driven many Fords in the past, and felt that is was time to drive something that didn't look like a police car. The Hyundai Sonata fit the bill. Great gas economy, a cavernous trunk, super insulation which make the interior of the vehicle very quiet. The Sonata handles great on the road, and the vehicle is stylish.

2018 Sonata se Symphony Silver
Reduced rating because of engine defect Extremely comfortable front seats. Slight road tire noise over rough pavement. Has actually improved with time. Pickup good but slight hesitation and vibration on transmission shifting about 40-to 50 mph. Has also improved, less noticeable. Dealership says it is normal but it still is somewhat annoying. Did not experience on other car makes Car looks great . Light grey interior looks luxurious as well as exterior. Looks like a car twice the price. Android auto uses only Google maps No built in navigation. price paid was 17600 (excluding sales tax and registration fees) plus 419 doc fees Above price includes $3000 rebate. Overall great car But downgraded due to an inherent defect in base engine. Poorly manufactured connecting rod bearings may fail prematurely. Hyundai has offered a lifetime warranty but does not soothe my concerns of taking a long trip and having an engine fail. They added software to car computer to monitor premature engine knock which would slow car down and warn driver. Does not fix the problem

Why must I accelerate in Sports mode?
I write this every time Edmunds asks. The answer is not going to change (why would it?) While this is truly the most beautiful and comfortable car I've ever owned, it's acceleration is dangerously unreliable and Hyundai refuses to recognize a problem that's noted all over the internet. The initial problem was an intermittent hesitation upon acceleration. I could go a month without this happening and then pulling out into a busy 2 lane road, get a long hesitation before the response. The service mechanics at the dealership said the computer diagnostic showed everything was 100%. About seven years ago I returned my Sonata to the dealer when there was a recall. It seemed to address the problem for about a year. When the hesitation came back the Hyundai technicians told me it was because the battery was low on my key fob - Yes they actually told me this! Recently, they said to put it in Sports Mode when I pull out onto a busy road to prevent hesitation. It's a freakin' middle of the road Hyundai! I have done that and even on occasion still get hesitation. But what an archaic way to drive a car in the 21st century. I really want to dump this Korean car and go back to my Toyotas, but with Trump's new tariffs on foreign cars, who knows. I got a Lemon. But Lemon Laws are too tedious and time consuming to pursue, and I can't afford to buy a comparable car in 2025.
