Engine failure after 160000 kms

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 4dr SUV AWD (3.3L 6cyl 6A)

We bought this car new in 2017 and have enjoyed it until now with nothing needed other than oil changes, brakes and tires. We hit 160000 kms and started getting a knocking noise from the engine. Dealership says it's caused by the engine bearing having failed, and now I need to buy a whole new engine for ~$9,000. There are recalls in the USA for this, but not Canada yet, so I'm stuck with a massive bill on a car that is likely not even worth that much. Was shocked by the response from Hyundai on this, when it's a known issue with their engines (a manufacturing defect). Will never buy a Hyundai vehicle again.

Still hate the Voice recognition

I have used navigation systems in the last 4 cars purchased. My 2011 Nissan had a better Nav than the Santa Fe. The voice recognition is slow, requires several steps to get your destination and many times it doesn't recognize the command. I have had to the dealership 2 times to look at and they tell me the software is current and the system operates as designed. I can't believe that with todays technology Hyundai can't come up with a better system. My wife has driven the Nissan Murano, Mercedes GLC, GLE and the Honda CRV. All have a great navigation system. If Hyundai wants to keep me as a customer they need to fix this navigation issue. I love all other aspects of this vehicle, the ride, it's quiet, the features, the design and the comfort. I'm a little disappointed that the steering tilt is manual and the passenger seat doesn't have lumbar support but the navigation is irritating!! UPDATE....I complained to Hyundai. They told me to take it back to the dealership (again). They checked the microphone and said it was ok and checked for updates (none) so they said it operates as designed. Well, they need a new design!!

Worst car manufacturer

Just a warning to consumers, please review all comments online on multiple platforms about Hyundai. I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE ultimate with the 3.3 l engine. I have spoke to many people that have had these engines and many people have lost their engine between 90,000 miles and 110,000 miles, including people with the four cylinder engine. Hyundai will not stand behind people and replace the engine. I just had to pay $7,000 for a remanufactured engine and labor because Hyundai doesn't want to back their equipment up. Hyundai has got to be the worst manufacturer knowing all the failed engines around the world and they don't want to claim any responsibility even though they have the same symptoms of engines losing power all of a sudden and shutting off. Then to realize there is no oil left in the engine because somehow it blew through the exhaust with no warning. I will never recommend Hyundai or Kia because they make the same vehicles. By all means go buy one if you like spending money on engines. I have had many vehicles in my years and have never in my life had an engine fail at 90,000 miles I personally know a gentleman that lost an engine at 110,000 mi. I know another gentleman in Massachusetts with a 2015 3.3 l that has gone through three engines. Just look at all the reviews and do your homework, look online and let all the forums And you will see how many people have had Hyundai engine problems. Hyundai has taken pictures of the internal engine issues and all they say is there was nothing wrong. They are so full of it. Do not ever trust Hyundai. Trust me on this. I will buy any other manufacturer even if I do not like them but at least they last. Hyundai will never ever be a suggestion I will make because of their poor quality and customer service. Worst vehicle I have ever had for reliability!!!!!!!

Its been almost 20 months since I brought this car. The features are really good for the price compared to competitors.I really like the smart cruise, sunroof and DBL features and the warranty is really good. Smart cruise makes driving easy during traffic and long journeys
