Amazed by my Ioniq

In April of 2019 I traded in my 2014 Accent GLS Hatchback 6-speed for a new Ioniq Hybrid Blue. I loved driving the Accent, but found the cargo space to be somewhat limiting at times, and this was my main reason for the "upgrade". So far, I have been very impressed with the Ioniq. The car is very comfortable, quiet, and easy to drive, and the mileage has been nothing short of amazing. I used to get about 5.5 L/100km in the Accent, and to date I am averaging 4.0 L/100km with the Ioniq -- amazing considering the Ioniq is a considerably larger car than the Accent. On one particular trip across Toronto in the heart of rush hour, the dash display was showing 2.9 L/100km -- that's 81 miles per U.S. gallon. I was somewhat disappointed that the Blue trim did not include the cargo cover, and the price to buy the cover in Canada is insane, so I ordered one from a U.S. dealership close to the border. My only other complaints are that the stock radio does not sound very good, and I would have liked fog lights, and a tachometer in the display, but I consider these to be minor gripes. I am surprised that I don't see more Ioniq (of any "flavor") on the road, as from my experience at least, this is an exceptional vehicle. *** UPDATE - 1 year later *** I have owned the Ioniq for over 1 year now, and this car continues to impress. The mileage is not as good in the cold weather, but after a full year, my average fuel consumption is 4.5L/100km. I would not hesitate to recommend this car to anyone. *** UPDATE - year 2 *** The Ioniq is still running great. I took an all-day trip a week ago, and when I got home, the display was showing 3.7L/100km. With the way gas prices are going (thanks president Biden), I am sure I will appreciate the great gas mileage even more. Great car! *** UPDATE - year 5 *** After 5 years, I have yet to have any repairs required, other than regular wear-and-tear repairs. The car is great in all weather conditions, but this may be the last season for the original Michelin low rolling resistance tires that came on the car. The odometer is now showing 77,000km. My mileage record was obtained on a trip to Belleville (a trip of about 300km) where the car achieved an overall rating of 2.9L/100km, which is about 97MPG. After 5 years, the car has a couple of minor dents and scratches, but overall is still looking and driving great!

2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid SEL 4dr Hatchback (1.6L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid 6AM)

Great value for the standard options on the SEL model I owned a 2017 Prius and it was a great car better hybrid gauge layout better braking regeneration and great suspension the Ioniq on the other hand has a very rough suspension lots of road noise overall the car is great but it misses on a few things I paid 5k less for the Ioniq so just that alone is very impressive the Ioniq feels more like a sports car and is fun to drive except on rough Los Angeles roads another thing I wish it had was fog lights but other than that it's a great car but I'm only able to average roughly 47 mpg city

I agree with edmunds that this is NOT a performance car. That being said, if you put it into sport mode it has plenty of “go” to get it moving at a decent clip. Fuel economy is unbelievable! We are getting around 650 miles per fill up. Seats are better than I thought they would be. Not luxury car seats, but not bad either. Our model doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles. We got this as a commuter car. We have taken it on one long distance trio, and had no regrets in doing so. Hyundai needs to advertise this car more than it does. At the moment it’s a hidden gem. Looks better than a Prius, and a lot cheaper too. BTW, the drive battery has an unlimited mileage and time for the original owner of the car.

This is a great car I really wanted the unlimited package with the limited trim and I finally got it, it's outstanding its not far behind or on par of usual luxury brand entry models, the electronic gearbox changes are a little bit rough sometimes but overall it's outstanding to withstand the los Angeles traffic, I drive almost on electric all the way thru the traffic, it's extremely efficient the acceleration to brake to regenerate ratio is outstanding, beware that you don't get the best juice in normal driving if you want better responsiveness and fast acceleration you have to use sport mide and you will be ok with the torque this baby generates, the intelligent cruise control is fantastic a little bit scary sometimes you have to get use and master the tactics haha, hyundai I love my hyundai!

Within the first 3 months of owning this brand new vehicle, I've had 3 major malfunctions. First, unexplained engine warning lights, second, unexplained flat tire. Then the water pump failed, was obviously defective to begin with, and corruded other parts. Hyundai didn't even have the parts in the United States to replace the defective ones. Took 2 days for a dealter in Baldwin, Missouri to look at car then 7 days to get it repaired. Auffenberg Hyundai in Cape Giradeau, Missouri said they would arrange for the vehicle to be transported to my home but reneged on their promise. This is my update at 7500 miles and about 9 months of owning this car. Gas mileage has gone from 55-60 mpg to 40-45 mpg. Now there's no technician at the Cape Giradeau Missouri dealership where I purchased who can work on this new car. For me more lies and failed commitments from Hyundai. From 3500 miles to 19500 miles, I've had no further problems, still get 55-60 miles per gallon in warm weather, 40-45 miles per gallon in cold weather. Since my last update, I've had no further problems. The lack of a spare tire is very concerning though as other people have documented with this car and others. I will never forget the despicable customer service I received from Hyundai during the first few months of ownership.
