Sports car w/GREAT reliability
Owned it for over 3 yrs since new. It has not failed me once. Its classic styling (esp. the headlights) grow on you. 200HP is not high for today's stds but power isn't everything. It is such a well-rounded sports car that does everything well, with handling being its best attribute. If you want a FUN and exciting car to drive w/good utility and great reliability this is it.
SWEET....Collectors Car to Be
I don't understand why Honda quit making the Prelude. The profile is very sporty. It is strong, with near 200hp from the DOHC, 16 valve, VTech 4 cylinder engine. The low profile tires and the suspension system make it stick like a race car in a tight corner. Handling is superb and the 4 wheel disc brakes will flat stop you.The overall quality is what we have come to expect from Honda. The price was right for the upper end performance of the 2001 Prelude

Farewell to an old friend
I bought my 2001 Prelude to replace the 1985 Prelude I'd owned for 14 years. Obviously I'm a big fan of Preludes and was disappointed that they have now been discontinued. This version of the Prelude is a bit larger and has much more power. Other than that, it is surprisingly similar to the old one. But after all, why mess with success. It's an incredibly fun car to drive and handles extremely well. I never had any mechanical problems with my first Prelude, and after 3 1/2 years have had none with this one either. About the only downsides to the 2001 Prelude are in the area of fuel economy; both the fact that it runs on premium gas, and that mileage per gallon was only average.
02 Accord EX-V6 to 01 Prelude base 5spd
97-01 Prelude (5th generation of prelude) is a great car overall. It is stylish, yet sporty, and its got some punch to back it up. 200hp/155tq, its a great H22A4 engine. However, vehicle is too heavy for its kind (3000pds). Handling is still one of the best out there, ATTS is great too, but known problems need to be carefully reviewed. Interior is too out-dated, however, it is simple and easy to use as sports car supposed to be. Rear seat/Trunk space is useless, but hey, its not a family grocery getter sedan. If you are in the market right now for a reasonbly priced, reliable, stylish and powerful sports compact that will seperate you from others, this is the car for you.
I love my Prelude Type SH!!
I purchased this car used from an owner who had done all of the routine maintenance (oil changes, etc) on time , at the Honda dealer in Kirkland, WA. The auto had 42,000 miles when I purchased it in Mar, 2006. No "dings" and no apparent mechanical problems. It had an excellent stereo (Alpine. I recently replaced the original equipment tires (205-50r 16) with 225-50r 16s and like them more. I have driven back and forth from Las Vegas NV to Seattle WA 3 times and averaged 28.9 MPG-at an average of 70+ MPH! I drove thru Oregon (US 395) which is a fun highway for a sports car and had a ball! So far, I have had no problems to report and I have changed the oil as required.
what a beauty
This car is beautiful, its design asks nothing of way more expensive cars, this car is elegant and sleek. It handles like butter. Just one of the great cars of all times, too bad Honda stop making it.
best Honda ever
Prelude is the best honda ive ever driven. Love the HP, love the way the VTEC screams from 5200 up to redline, feels like ur in a formula-1 car. Good brakes, good mileage on freeway, excellent handling. very exciting car, would recommend to anyone.
honda prelude will beat any U.S. 6cl
people say that the prelude does not have so much torque, but mine woops but on cameros and mustangs and if you want an extra kick for $3,700.00 turbo/w everything installed will bring you up to over 400hp.
I love this car.
I just love the way this car drives. It handles so well and the power delivery is so nice, that I enjoy every day with it.
Great Car
This has been a great car for me for the past 5 years. It has never had any issue with reliability or handling, braking is brilliant and performance very good. It even has room for two young kids in the back seat. Basically this car gives solid performance with all the little things thrown in - mine has cruise, power everything, sun roof, sports gears etc..
great
very superb, and very exciting to drive
Not Sorry
Bulletproof, better in many ways than our 2001 BMW 3 series.
2001 Honda Prelude
Zero service issues. Great quality and reliability.
Sleek, sporty car
With its stabiliser bars and double-wishbone suspension, this car provides sporty driving enjoyment. Exterior styiling and the 200 HP Vtec engine really turn heads. Prelude is 100% built in Japan, rare these days; the Japanese assembly and parts are totally superior to every other maufacturer in its price range. Heavier body and lower profile set Prelude apart even more.
Great car!
I love the Prelude; excellent car. I'd only get rid of this car for a 6th Gen Prelude or a GT-R (R35).
The Best Handling Car I have Owned
This car was bought to replace my wrecked 2000 Civic Si. So far it has been the best car I have owned. The handling is superior to other front wheel drive cars. It is also solid in construction with great attention to detail. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a truly fun car.
Gone, but not forgotten!
The Prelude exemplifies a time when Honda was still building cars to a specific engineering goal and not to a price-point. The cabin materials are first-rate, with comfortable seats, good visibility, all amenitites a serious driver needs, and nothing he or she doesn't. The handling and ride still are the standard for the FWD sport-coupe class. The brakes are better than the average Honda's, as well. The Prelude's appeal is how the suspension, brakes and jewel of an engine work so seamlessly together. It is a tool for carving corners, but is also quite pleasant for long trips.
Very nice car
I love my prelude. I has very good performance stock. Also you can buy many upgrades to get more power. Its pretty comfortable, sometimes my back starts to ache but maybe its just me cause im 6'3". Fuel economy is good but im always in vtec so it sucks up gas. Its very fun to drive just becareful for popo. Interior is plain stock but that will be fixed with some new seats. Builty quality is good and its very reliable. I only had 1 prob with tranny. I think it was a faulty part
one nice sports car
its been a nice ride and fun to drive i would recommend it to anyone lookin for a nice car with good speed and reliable.
Beautiful!!
The best car anyone can have for such a price! The handling is great and so is the hp. I would recommend this baby to anyone.
Incredible!
I'm a resident of Canada. I purchased the Type SE Model of the Prelude. Honda discontinued the SH Model in Canada for 2001 so my only option was the SE. The SE comes with everything the SH comes with except no ATTS was equipped. This is my first car and I am very impressed with it. I test drove the Toyota Celica GT-S. I found the Toyota to be very small and compact inside, and I found the clutch very hard to work with. The Prelude's clutch however, is extremely smooth and the interior offers a lot of room. It is unfortunate that Honda discontinued the Prelude. Its design is original and the drive is pleasurable.
2001 Prelude
An excellent buy for the money. Strong performance, points very well and handles predictably. I really like the car--its stacks up well against other sports cars I owned such as, Datsun 280Z, Sunbeam Tiger, a couple of C3 Vettes and a Jag. Have noticed that the 5th Gen Prelude tends to use oil. Mine uses a quart every 2,500 miles, which the dealer indicates is typical and not a problem.
WOW
this is car is by far the best car i could get...the power, the handling, and everything about it is the best...and the amazing part about it is that it wasnt expensive!...my advice to anyone that wants to buy a car is to get a honda prelude!
Prelude Junkie
I bought my first Prelude when I drove my 2001 Silver Coupe off the lot. Although I totalled it in 2013, it was the best car that I ever owned. I now have my third manual 5 speed, and I love it the same as my first. Wonderful handling and style.

2001 Honda Prelude SH
These cars are very reliable and have a sleek look that turns heads everywhere I go. I have had mine for 5 years now, and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! The VTEC gives it that extra pull that is very addictive. But beware, the VTEC will make your rear bumper black from the oil it shoots out and they eat oil much more from the VTEC. This is relevant if you just finished washing it and expect it to stay clean for a couple of days. I usually VTEC when it is a little dirty or on my way to car wash! It does use about 1 qt of oil every 2 weeks or more depending how you drive. It does use premium gas, but not to bad on gas mileage if you keep in within legal speed limits (Not). Easy to maintain and very comfortable inside and good size trunk. Only problem I occurred was the catalytic converter going out on me after 25,000 miles. Fun, fast and good looking for under 5K. Good for the young and older folks! No more CIVICS!!!!!

My blue Honda Prelude
Parents bought me this to go to UCSD. Great car, fantastic handling (through the corners). Although I was disappointed about the interior, but it's not too bad for a Japanese sports car. Very reliable, passed smog and everything... a very fast car and sometimes with the blue color it attracts a lot of attention. I love this car.
Prelude Review
excellent car. interior and exterior looks are appealing. Icing on the cake would be, of course, optional v6 manual transmission.
Best car that I have ever owned
This car is the best car that I have ever purchased. The dealer was great. After the break in period the car ran better then ever.
