Wish I had Known

The Passport Touring has many good qualities I was looking for - made in USA, safety for all passengers and able to take off from a stop, quickly. Unfortunately I wish I had noticed the road noise on the passenger side when speed gets to 35 and increases in sound the faster I drive. While test driving my speed got up to about 45 but I did not hear anything due to talking with salesman. I brought to the attention of the noise when I talked with the salesman a few days after purchase. He states check windows and doors make sure completely shut, I had already checked. Took into service about a month after purchase to see if this was common thinking it may be rubber around doors not thick enough. After keeping for a full day, they state the roof rails was making the noise. On my way home my route took me onto new temp paving on highway - you guessed it - NO NOISE. I brought this back up with service and they stated all vehicles have noise. I am just glad I don't have to drive a far distance every day because this would be very annoying and would have to bite the bullet and find another vehicle. What is funny though the noise is not as loud when there is someone sitting in the passenger seat. As an update December 2019 - The noise problem is still there. I brought issue up with local dealer and Honda America. Honda America would not do anything unless local dealer saw problem. Local dealer of course could not hear anything. As speed increases, so does sound. The additional things I do not like but will live with are the push button gear/start and the auto idle shut off that I have to turn off each time I start engine. I do not have long legs (5' 6" tall) and find I can not place right foot on gas pedal comfortably. Feels like I am using my toes. If I have seat up any closer the steering wheel is almost in my chest. I didn't pay much attention while test driving thinking I could just move seat closer later. If I ever get another car I will definitely remember these things and double/triple check. Oh, also found out while looking at new cars that most of them have the sun/moon roof which I did not want. But in order to get the heated seats, memory seat location and GPS I had to get moon roof. Extra expense that I could live without. Overall I do like the Passport for what my needs. Update asked by Edmunds June 2022 but don't know if anyone will read - 1. Using navigation to route trip - Good for local, terrible for long distance. While trying to plan 2 trips over 500 miles away, could not route trip with our preferences on where to stop. Ended up using Google maps I printed from computer before leaving and using co-pilot on tablet. Useless on trip. But got good gas millage though. 2. We live in Florida so winter weather occasionally need heat and all others air conditioning. The temp is set to "Auto" so unit turns on what is needed. Only problem is it takes a long period of time for unit to decided. Ex: other day temp outside shows 90, inside temps set at 70. You would think that the fan at least would come on at decent rate to push hot air out of vents and start cool down. Nope, hardly any fan speed to clear vents. Took about 5 minutes to finally get some cool air and still fan not at high speed. I know I can increase fan speed manually but then what is purpose of "Auto". My husband had a Ram Pickup and now a Jeep Wrangler. As soon as they starts fan speed high and cool air less than minute. Same problem with Passport during winter with heat. Once engine finally warms up fan speed never increases, like it is set on medium or less and I am having to control. Now the heated seats I love! 3. The sensors on from and rear bumper work most of the time. I have had an instance with both where they did not pick up a vehicle approaching and one backing up on rear and an individual walking by in front.. I just wish they had put a middle sensor on front bumper for parking distance gauge distance to another car parked in front of you or sign. 4. Love the back seat fold down. Very easy when having to carry long items and flip back up for passenger. Would I buy another Honda? Probably not. Need alot of improvements.

What can I say, it is just about everything I wanted. Wish it had 360 camera though and I have a hard time seeing or hearing the signal. Still, love it just as much as I did our 2015 Odyssey.

Drove beautifully, quiet and roomy. I put myself at a disadvantage size wise because I wanted a 6 cylinder. The Passport has that and more. I will be driving it to Florida shortly; we’ll see how it goes.

I agree with everything Edmunds.com said in their review. Feels fun to drive and feels a lot bigger than it is. EX-L trim has a great sound system. Has several clever features that make Honda great like buttons in the trunk that automatically drop the rear seats flat, making loading large items easy. So far MPG has been a bit of a disappointment, getting around 12 MPG, but my wife mainly uses it for short errands around town so I’m sure it’s skewed due to that. Overall, I am very happy with this car.
