Easy to drive, easy to love... If you like music

2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Touring 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

Got a good deal on Touring, have owned for almost two months. Taken it on several long car trips (one 400 one 700 mile) there and back. With the safety features it practically drives itself on the highway, is super comfortable and roomy. Sure- it’s not as peppy as the Ford Escape Hybrid (or the Rav4), but I can feel plenty of power off of a stop. I drive in Econ mode but if you’re concerned, throw it in Sport for a significant differnce and it’ll speed up very quick. Compared to those two other cars, the ride quality is noticeably smoother and its transitions are seem-less. If you want an easy driving car, this is for you. If you want something sportier, go for a CX-5 or possibly a 2020 escape if you want to spend less. If fuel economy is why you’re buying the car, it is certainly better than a non hybrid but doesn’t do as well as a Rav4, I’m averaging 33.5 around town, and 36 on long car trips on the highway. I drove it for a weekend in Chicago city traffic and all the sudden was getting 38. My area is pretty suburban and low on traffic, which I assume is why I'm seeing low city MPG. I didnt just opt for a hybrid for the milage though; I tend to like how they drive and in my experience they last longer with less issues. The biggest downside to this car; the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System. It sounds something like a spaceship or creepy church choir and is pretty loud in reverse. With the windows up, you can only hear it at stop lights if you know to listen for it, but with the windows down you’ll notice it. This hasn’t effected the score on my review for one reason; every single time I drive I play music, and with the stereo on you can’t notice it at all unless you realllllly try and know what to listen for. So as long as you like music, not a reason not to buy the car. The styling feels upscale and this car will do its job to get your family and your stuff comfortably to wherever you need to take them, weekday or weekend. I am a single adult but needed a crossover to carry friends and gear on weekend trips, which this car is perfect for. Get an EX-L if you want the best value.

2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Touring 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

After a long wait since learning that Honda had released a CR-V hybrid ex-US, I shopped around and purchased the CR-V Touring Hybrid in Sonic Grey in July. I was looking for a comfortable, quiet, fuel efficient vehicle for my daily commute in the San Diego area to replace my high mileage 2014 BMW 328d. After ~2000 miles I am nearly matching the 36-38 MPG that I got in the 328d in mixed driving. On my commute, however, which is mostly non-highway, I have easily achieved 40 mpg, so it is possible under real-world conditions to achieve the mileage listed. Since my previous vehicle was a BMW, I had the opportunity to drive several loaner BMWs over the span of the 130,000 miles that I drove the 328d, and in my opinion the CR-V Hybrid compares very well in several areas to a BMW X3. The spacious interior is really outstanding and very comparable to luxury brands - the seats, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, hands-free lift gate and door locks. Where it may lag behind is in acceleration, but my 328d 0-60 time was 7 sec, and the CR-V hybrid is not far behind at 8 sec. The CR-V does work harder on steep inclines, but that's to be expected. A noticeable feature of Honda hybrids is the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS). It is mostly noticeable at low speeds or while in reverse. Perhaps the ground clearance amplifies the sound a bit relative to other hybrids, but it is easy to get used to. Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and look forward to commuting with for years to come. Pluses: near-luxury comfort interior, cargo space, fuel economy, CarPlay integration Minuses: Acceleration past 40 MPH, voice recognition of GPS

My first inclination was to buy a new 2020 CRV EXL (gas), but test drove the EXL hybrid and the experience was wonderful. The leather looked great and was so comfortable. The engine(s) gave the hybrid some pep (I wasn't there to buy a Porshe), and I really enjoy playing with the battery charging paddles. Immediately after, I went to the Toyota dealer to drive the RAV4 XSE hybrid. The car had a great looking interior, maybe a bit more modern than the CRV. The outside of the car was nice, but it looked like something a teenager would enjoy. Driving the RAV4 was the deciding factor; it rode like my early 2000's Civic. I felt every bump, and it didn't feel sturdy like the CRV. I read every article that I could find, and the RAV4 kept receiving better reviews than the CRV hybrid. I drove the two cars-- I researched for days-- there is no way that I would choose the RAV4 XSE hybrid over the CRV EXL hybrid. Plus, if you live in an awesome state such as CT, the hybrid components are covered for 15 years or 150k miles! Btw....I did explore buying the EXL 1.5L turbo-- I could not get over the .5 second hesitatation when pushing the gas pedal. I know that I made the right decision

Options are very competitive for the price. Excellent acceleration and braking. Smooth ride. Very comfortable. Traded "down" from a Lexus with all the bells and whistles; this car doesn't have all of the features that I would like to have, but exceeds expectations for the features that I do have. My biggest "misses"-leather steering wheel and upgraded sound system. Owner's Manual is confusing or not thorough in parts. Choice was this car or Toyota Rav 4---for this trim level, the CR-V greatly exceeds the fit and finish, and the overall ride of the Toyota.

Rides well and passenger space is excellent. Get up to speed smoothly. Don’t stomp the pedal. Now to the lower rating. After 600 mile in an area where my 2016 CR-V fed averaged 29.8, the hybrid is getting 33.3. 4 to 5 MPG LOWER then EPA numbers. It will take about 5 years to recoup the added cost. If you just want a new vehicle, this is a nice vehicle. If you also want the high fuel savings, look other hybrid SUVs. Update: From purchase to about 800 miles I drove with Economy mode on, MPG 33.2-3. Turned of the Econ setting and drove about 90 miles, MPG 33.2. Cleared the trip computer, turned Econ on and drove 140 miles with abouT 15 in city/urban areas, MPG 37.3. I can only guess the engine computer needed to learn the difference. Will update if things go down measurably.

A smooth feel, What? No spare?

The lower packages do not come with fun colors but are still well equipped. Like about 80% of the cars in LA that are near new you can get white with a black interior. The drive train is astonishingly smooth and acceleration from 15 to 45 is awesome, but oh, once you start to rely more on the Atkinson cycle engine it becomes more noise than push.(new comment: If you put the drive train into Sport Mode, hold on! It gives a respectable response that certainly puts my '87 Lincoln Towncar to shame.) If you don't have it in Sport mode--beware of that drop off! I almost got crushed by a gas tanker semi! I usually drive judiciously so I would not withhold my recommendation. For an easy rider it is awesome! (New comment: The suspension is firm, the vehicle never leans; and yet, travel is astounding! I inadvertently dove into intersection drainage culvert expecting a bad jolt. Wow! It was silky smooth! 1)One big drawback is there is not a spare tire; there is a pump and tire repair kit. That is no comfort when you are on a hot desert road miles from cell service. Designers need to figure this one out. When that tire light (TPMS) comes on in the instrument display, my heart stops. I can put on a spare, I can't fix a ruined tire. ADDENDUM: This vehicle has been the most trouble-free car I have ever owned. It just goes with amazing reliability. WARNING: Do not use the Brake Hold system in the car wash line. What a panic that was! Cancelling brake hold in the middle of a crisis was not intuitive.

Cyclists beware/disappointing gas mileage

Solid Honda quality but if you are a cyclist who wants to use a hitch rack you are out of luck - the vehicle is not rated for towing and Honda apparently doesn't even want you to install a hitch for a bike rack. So if you want a small hybrid SUV that that is bike friendly, you'd better get a Toyota. 8 month update: I am increasingly disappointed with the mileage. I'm barely getting 35mpg overall than the 38mpg advertised. In fact, the car seems to get worse mileage on short haul, low speed trips around town. Also, I note that compared with the regular fuel vehicle there are much fewer internal storage options. So I cannot recommend the vehicle as a hybrid. Either get the regular gas version or, if you must have a hybrid, get a Toyota - I wish I had. 14 month review: Gas mileage has not improved. Still about 35mpg. It's a nice car. Just not a very good hybrid or SUV with its inability to handle a trailer hitch even just for a bike.

Do The Math Before Buying!

Do The Math before buying any Hybrid! Right now, the CRV Hybrids are going for sticker. So that’s $36,201 for a Touring w/ winter mats & wheel locks. I just bought a 2020 gas Touring (w/ winter mats & wheel locks) for $32,678. Difference is $3,523. Hybrid avg mpg estimate is 38. Gas avg mpg is 29. In 10,000 miles, the gas model uses 346 gallons. In 10,000 miles, the Hybrid model uses 263 gallons. So every 10,000 miles, the Hybrid saves 82 gallons of gasoline. At $2.50 a gallon = $205. At $3.00 a gallon, it’s $246. So at 100,000 miles; that’s 820 gallons; which saves you $2,050 if gas is $2.50; or $2,460 if it goes up to $3.00/gallon. And by the time you hit 100,000 miles, you’ll be replacing the high-voltage battery pack — a job that’s ~$3,500.00! So at 100,000 miles; the Hybrid buyers will have spent more than $7,000 to save themselves $2,000 - $2,500. NOTE: 100-mile trip in my 2020 gas CRV measured 36 mpg!

We chose the Touring trim because of all the features it came with. We traded in a same-year non-hybrid, also a Touring CR-V that was almost a year old. We loved that car but wanted to go with a hybrid and the fact that this has parking sensors that our non-hybrid didn't come with. With the uncertainty of where gas prices are going the future we wanted to get the best of both worlds. Having a CR-V and the Hybrid version.

Pros: - Quiet & comfortable cabin - Easy to get in and out of - Comfortable front seats and big back seats - Alot of safety content for the price - Good MPG - avg. 35 - Good initial acceleration due to electric motor - Apple Car Play integration is very good Cons: - Not many. - Engine drone - gets loud when you "floor it" for fast acceleration, but then quiets down at speed. - While strong acceleration from a start, looses a little steam above 40 MPG but sufficient. - Good acceleration in Sport mode, but since that engages the engine at all speeds, gas mileage suffers and will be louder. - Small 7" "high end" audio system display. Alot of complaining about this, BUT, once you set it, no need to delve into the sub-menus. Volume knob is nice, would be nice to have a tuning knob, like in the Accord Touring. In fact, that head unit should be used in the CR-V going forward. - No compact spare, only a can of good and an air pump. - Would be nice if you could get European features on the US CR-V: electric folding mirrors, heads up display and passenger outside mirror tilting down when reversing (on the Touring model).

I bought it new. In a lapse of attention, I didn't insist on Michelin tires and ended up with Hankooks, which are noisier, harder riding and may be less efficient. Otherwise, the car rides and handles fairly well. I like the hybrid for its low speed torque and city mpg, but most of my driving is on hilly 70 mph Interstate, and my overall mpg for 15,000 miles is only 31 mpg. Disappointing, but not my main complaint. What causes me to hate the car is the computer BS. To begin with, I keep the car in a garage, but no matter what state I leave it in, when I return it has locked itself. I can't leave the key fob too close to the car or it kills the key fob battery. Exasperating! Then there's the computer fooling with the steering. At first I thought that having it nudge me if I drifted out of my lane was good, but when I'm trying to avoid a semi drifting into my lane, I don't need it trying to push me into the truck. So I've turned that feature off. The lane keeping assist is worthless, since you still have to keep correcting it, and if it senses that you aren't doing so it will run you into the ditch in spite. The adaptive cruise control is mostly a help, but too often it will panic if the car in front pulls into an off ramp and slows down. It slams on the brakes which is not only annoying but can create a dangerous situation if some one behind you is a little too close. The fact that you have to use the touchscreen for too many functions is both annoying and dangerous. Texting or even using your cellphone is illegal, but you have to take your eyes off the road to adjust the heating, radio, etc. Is just as dangerous. Then there's the headlights. They have 'blinders' not only on the top of the lighted area for low beams, but top, bottom, and both sides on hi and lo beams. I live in a rural area and I need all the light I can get on back roads, but with POS I can't even see how to turn on to a side road. If I'm going to be driving at night, I just use another car. These are the major problems I have with the CR-V, and I have a few more less important, but you get the picture. I used to have great respect for Honda's engineering, but their computer systems department should all fall on their swords.

I needed a spare car for the the family and kids to drive to replace a 14 year old SUV that is leaving with one college bound kid. Something to haul stuff on weekends and safe for other kids to drive during week (or take school if COVID cooperates). Compared this and Hyundai Santa Fe but was unimpressed with Hyundai dealer and car felt too big and nice for or needs. And for price with hybrid and all features didn’t seem comparable. Drove a non-hybrid EX-L and while impressed didn’t like engine and CVT sound effects so tried the Hybrid Touring in the color we liked. Felt more solid in part due to extra 200lbs from battery and larger 19” wheels. Negotiated a 10% discount to match EX-L hybrid list and am very happy. I am shocked at how large the CRV is compared to mid size suvs. As much room inside and out as any other mid size suv we own. Performance in suburbia is just right but would like more power at speed on highway but we can deal with the hybrid’s daily capabilities. Oil changes every 3-5k miles is more annoying than the 10k we are used to but I believe this will last for many years without issue. Fully loaded Touring is only missing a 360 camera and panorama roof compared to luxury SUVs.

The CR-V offers the best value among mid-size SUVs

The 2020 CR-V hybrid is the first year of this model and it does quite well out of the gate. The CR-V feels solid and comfortable to drive, has ample room for odd-sized objects like large boxes and bags, and gets reasonable gas mileage of 35-40 mpg. While many reviewers have complained that the actual mileage doesn't match the EPA sticker estimate of 38 mpg on average, I will concede that mileage per tank can be quite variable based on the mix of driving on the highway, expressway, or city for a given tank of gas. Another factor is winter driving that is very hard on hybrid mileage (avg. 30-33) for this car. The Accord Hybrid suffers similar loss of mpg during cold weather getting down to low 40's or high 30's in temps below 40 degrees F. The driver's habits for accelerating forcefully or lightly, and use of coasting to an upcoming stop at a traffic light also make a difference. If you buy a hybrid to get the best possible mileage, you will need to drive with a soft pedal, use coasting extensively when approaching stops when you have enough momentum, and use Econ mode as often as possible. If you do need more aggressive acceleration, then Sport mode works very well to give the CR-V a much better acceleration boost to get to speed quickly. The Accord Hybrid gets 43-46 most of the time as a comparison to this car's 35-38 average. Considering this is an SUV with less optimal aerodynamic design, this mileage loss is acceptable considering the utility the CR-V offers for higher center of gravity and spacious cargo space. I have both an Accord and CR-V hybrid, so I can compare the experiences directly from my own driving. I got this 2020 Touring in January 2021 at a good discount and before the car shortages became widespread due to COVID-19 delays and the chip shortage. I paid around $33K for the Touring, but believe the car shortage will force prices much closer to sticker price at $38K for the foreseeable future. I have taken the CR-V on one long road trip from Ohio to Texas and found it to be extremely comfortable for long drives. After 11 hours of driving my back was only mildly uncomfortable, but I believe this was due to my own back problems and not caused by the seats or positioning of the lumbar support. The gas tank is only 13 gallons, so you'll usually only be paying for 10 or 11 gallons of fuel at a time. As gas is now at $4.50 a gallon, a fill up is about $50-55 compared to $100+ for most vans and pickups on the road. I have no real zonks against the CR-V with the exception that it is not certified for any type of towing or even rear-mounted racks for bikes or other cargo. You can still use the roof cross-bars to add a cargo box, but if you are a biker or camper and want to drive to remote locations with oversized cargo, you should stick with the gas model. Overall, me and the wife are quite happy with the CR-V hybrid and recommend it.

I was able to save over $4K by purchasing a leftover 2020 CR-V HYBRID Touring last month (January 2021). I had considered buying a 2021 Venza Limited but I didn’t want to spend over $40K on a vehicle. The CR-V Hybrid is smooth and quiet and handling is quite good. It’s a great sized vehicle. The leather seats are super comfortable. The backseat is spacious. I like the remote start, which will come in handy in the FL summer, automatic wipers and high beams, and all of the safety features Honda has placed in this vehicle. I also like the push button gear selectors. There are a few downsides in my opinion. I am not getting the posted average MPG as stated on the Window Sticker. The infotainment system is a little slow. It takes a bit for the directional guidelines to appear after you put the car in reverse. I wish the reverse camera was placed a bit higher on the back of the car so that you would get a higher/larger view behind you. The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system works totally different than other vehicles I have had and or driven. On other vehicles I’ve had, when a vehicle is fast approaching your vehicle, the BSM icon lights up prior to the car actually getting in your blindspot. The BSM in the CR-V only lights up when a vehicle is actually in your blindspot. I am still getting used to it. As a Top of the line model with a sticker price relatively close to $40K, I think all windows should be automatic up/down, not just the front ones. Ventilated front seats should be standard. There also should be a light in the glove box. Every vehicle has its pro’s and cons. There is a perfect one out there. If it weren’t for the big discrepancy regarding MPG, I would give the CR-V 4.75 stars

smooth ride very comfortable outstanding radio sound 5 miles more per gallon than non hybrid. I paid full list price for a Honda crv-EX hybrid model. Still only $31,000 including freight. The power, the gas mileage, all the safety features included, the 160 watt stereo blows the roof off. What about the sun roof-standard. Forget trying to get a discount, this car is worth a full $40,000. Did I mention all wheel drive included. It's called a small size suv , but beats all the other small and medium size ones on the road. Go down to your dealer, give Them $31,000 list for a Honda CRV-EX hybrid. Put in the bank the extra monies a Rav 4 or any other Suv you were considering, especially the so called midsize models. You'll be so happy, and loving your decision every day.

Great car, bad hybrid mileage

UPDATE: I don't own this car anymore. I had taken it in to get some routine maintenance this summer (2021), and because of the used car market being the way it was this summer, the dealer wanted to buy it from me. Since I was getting horrible gas mileage (as a hybrid), I said yes. They had an electric used vehicle on their lot with very low miles, so we sealed on that and I took it home. I cannot say I'm sorry to have gotten rid of the CR-V. Like I had mentioned originally, the mileage was not anywhere near the EPA estimate and certainly not any better than a gas CR-V. It was, in my opinion, a waste of money. ***** This is my third CRV after 2014 and 2017 models. I lease because I drive mainly in town, so the predicted mileage was very attractive. But it was also very wrong. I get a full 25% less than the advertised mpg: 30 vs the promised 40. That’s huge! My 2017 gas model got the same mileage as I’m getting now. Really big disappointment. I remember there was a settled class action suit against Honda for the estimated mileage of its first Civic hybrid. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same happened for the CR-V hybrid. I stepped down from a Touring to an EX-L. I miss the automatic wipers and hands-free lift gate, but otherwise this trim is perfectly fine. The suite of adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and other safety features make this car semi-autonomous. That combination saved me from an accident in my last CR-V. The CR-V looks sharp. I think the look will endure for quite some time. I have read in plenty of other reviews about its appearance, with comments that say it’s not as exciting as the RAV4. But in my opinion the RAV4 looks like something your kid would put together with a set of Legos. If you like that, fine. But I’d prefer something that looks more adult. The engine, while not delivering on mileage, puts out plenty of power. It can complain a little when you tromp on the accelerator, but I finally figured out that doing that is not necessary. Power is immediate and ramps up in adequate fashion, and you just have to let it do that. Passing ability was very surprising, as the car spurts forward when passing on the highway. If I had known the mileage would be way off from what is advertised I would have stayed with a gas version. But this is still a very enjoyable and reliable car. UPDATE: Something I should have mentioned in my earlier review is that the infotainment system must be one of the worst that's out there. In my 2017 CR-V the whole unit had to be replaced because it was defective. The one in my current 2020 model is also a mess. It is horribly slow, which can actually be unsafe, since one's eyesight has to be on the touchscreen so long because of the slow reaction time of the touchscreen. It is embarrassingly slow. The entire system freezes at times, making it entirely inoperable. It won't reset itself until the car is turned off and sits for a while, usually several hours. If this car was just a piece of technology I wouldn't even consider purchasing it. It's like comparing digital music to a record player. This car is a record player. My mileage is still atrocious. The onboard computer says I'm averaging 31.2 mpg -- not even close to the estimated mpg. It is not worth the hybrid premium one has to pay. Stick with the gas model.

I test drove a 2020 Honda CRV Hybrid. The all-wheel drive SUV was responsive with intuitive displays that provided on time feed-back. The performance was good with steady and controlled handling. I feel as the price point is very competitive. I decided that this late in the middle year it would make better sense to wait a few months of a 2021 model. I am seriously considering trading my 2018 CRV FOR A hybrid version. As always Honda meets a of my expectations of quality. The dealer in West Burlington, Iowa was very helpful and accommodating.

I have had a CRV Hybrid for 2 months and 5,300 thousand miles, so I can't yet speak to its reliability or TCO. Here is what I think as of now, though: PROS: Comfortable, feels surefooted, roomy inside (with many clever storage compartments), good suite of modern safety features, doesn't look weird CONS: Feels underpowered, the fuel efficiency is not great, the infotainment is difficult to use, there is no spare wheel (had to be deleted to make space for the traction battery), the manufacturer prohibits towing for a reason that is not quite clear to me. My prediction is that the CRV Hybrid will follow the footsteps of the Gen 2 Insight and Clarity EV: after 2-3 years of low sales it will quietly disappear from the US market, and no-one will regret or even notice this. <br> EDITED NOV 30, 2021: I got rid of the CRV after only 8 months and about 20K miles .... lost 9K vs. the purchase price, or 23%. And this is during the times when many cars and truck sell for more than they had been bought for.

Honda does not include spare tires in many models. Good luck if you get a flat out of range of a cell tower. You can be stuck by the side of the road for a long time.

I purchased Honda CRV hybrid 2021 just 3 weeks ago and find out that Honda Intentionally creates WRONG advertising. 1. Tank size 14 gallons (tech spec) - in reality less than 12 gallons. 2. Driving range 560 miles (CRV estimate) - in reality 430 miles top. 3. Economy (standard driving mode) 40 city 35 highway turn to be less than 36 mpg. 4. EV mode driving distance 20-25 miles (honda dealership) turn to be ~ 1 mile. So far I noticed only these differences.

The car is pretty. It's my first hybrid and there's a lot to commend it. It's comfortable, roomy, and performs pretty well. My biggest complaints are the mileage is not nearly as good as Honda advertises. I get about 35 in the city and 33 on the highway. I don't speed. In fact, I max out at 72 mph even if the limit is 75 or 80. I don't accelerate hard. Still, it's rare that I see anything above 35mpg on a tank of gas. On the rare occasion when I've needed acceleration, I've been sadly disappointed in the sport mode. This car has a nice even acceleration even when you need something more. I'm also rather disappointed in the electric mode. I'd hoped to get 10-15 miles when I hit that button but I'm lucky to get 5. I might as well have stuck with my Mazda CX-5.

This is my third Honda and second CR-V. The reliability and fuel efficiency keep me coming back to Honda vehicles. The CR-V Hybrid is more than I expected when it comes to comfort, power and safety. There is a slight learning curve when it comes to using the onboard technology interface ... other than that this is a great vehicle to drive especially in and around a city like Philadelphia. .

Smaller fuel tank and highway driving lead to more fill ups. Kumho tires are horrible(Noisy), and Honda, nor Kumho will do anything about them. Real world driving MPG( mostly highway) is about 29MPG

I've been driving Hondas since 2003 but this is the first one that I had to my car to the dealer because of warning lights during the 3 year warranty period. Twice the dash lit up with a Transmission problem and Blind Spot indicator problem. In both cases, no problem could be identified. It happened for a 3rd time and left it with the dealer for 2 days. They couldn't find the problem and they wouldn't even say it's safe to drive.
