Never had a problem in 3 years. Started without any problems every time. Only complaint is there is not enough room for front passenger's feet with legs stretched forward and I'm short. Minor shortcoming however and would definitely recommend. Sat in back seat a few times and was surprised how roomy it was.

Less complicated and no PHD required to operate. Just drove a Prius and the instrumentation was not only confusing but distracting. HH gauges simple. Mileage and interior room good. Trunk bigger than Prius and enclosed. Better for the person who likes to drive without bothering with glitz. Radio only fair. I have the upgraded model and did not switch to an added cost radio.

05 Civic LX

2005 Honda Civic LX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 5M)
1 of 1 people found this review helpful

I purchased a 05 Civic LX with the 5-speed about a week ago. I really enjoy it, but if you can afford it go with the EX for the extra power. They get equal fuel economy, but at a $3K premium it might be worth it. My LX is ok but I do long for the V-TEC, and the moonroof. I would recomend the Honda service plan. It cost me $1K but is bumper to bumper for 5 years or 100K miles. The coupe is a lot of fun to drive, it is sporty but a little under powered. This is the second Honda I have owned, and have nothing but good things to say. Very reliable, and very good with resale price. Check your insurance rates before you buy. There are a lot of security features i.e. computer chip in the keys.

Reliable transportation but little else. Starts, goes, stops just fine, and it looks okay. Absolutely terrible ride quality (harsh, bouncy, crude & unrefined), sun visor fabric is rotting away, door fabric coming unglued, hole in driver's floor mat at 5,000 miles, thin paint on thin sheet metal, crappy speakers already failing, no lock on glove compartment, no tint strip at top of windshield, no passenger door power lock button, loses power steering fluid every 6 months, too few features for the money overall. Because of this Civic, Honda has lost me as a customer for good.

The fit and finish on this car is incredible for an 'economy-type' vehicle. The seats conform to the body extremely well; the car handles turns and curves like it is on rails. Value Package boasts a nice a/c, dual vanity visor mirrors and cd player. The maintenance schedule is remarkable: 10k miles between oil changes under normal driving conditions? WOW! 110k before scheduled tune up? Now that's what I'm talking about. 29/38 MPG? I have only had the car for four days, but I am excited to see how much $$ I will be potentially saving by not having to visit the pump as often.

I have driven Civics for 15 years now and they only get better. This car just feels fun to drive, almost like a sports car, yet a fraction of the cost. It is also easy to tune because they are so popular that every after- market company makes compatible parts for the civic. Overall I give it a 10.

We used to be brutalized on gas costs for long trips with our Dodge Ram Van. This vehicle has the pep, room and gas mileage that is just excellent for its size. I made an 800 mile trip from NJ to South Carolina on 17 gallons of gas. It is not unusual to get 500/540 miles safely from 1 tank. The government tax incentive of 1500 dollars was nice too. I am going to save a fortune in gas costs in the coming years. I also purchased the bumper to bumper 10 year warrantee. I figured the tax incentive was a fair exchange. Get this car and become part of the solution to global warming, pollution, rising gas costs and have a little fun with the science of the law of conservation of energy.

We bought our car new almost 4 years ago and we love the vehicle. Good gas mileage, very reliable (such a pleasure after the horror we previously drove), good looks, no rust, interior is larger than it appears from the outside. My only gripe is that the top of the foot space for the front passenger is very low and this can be uncomfortable, especially if you're a woman wearing higher heels. Apart from that, nothing but praise for the Civic.

Well, here goes. I bought in '05 because i had a low self esteem. I wanted a car with a seat so horrible, i would hurt when i got to where i was going. And i got it! i also wanted an engine so small that 1967 beetles could outrun me. guess what, i got that too. i was also so totally looking forward to cramming me and three of my 6'3" buddies in the car to see if the performance got noticeably worse and how uncomfortable we could get. and how well the brakes worked when we now essentially doubled the weight of the car. actually the brakes are good. it didn't have ABS b/c it's not standard and i hate ABS. the gas door release broke, passenger window broke, and a flat - totally Honda's fault.

After recently dealing with the dreaded "blown head gasket" @ 105k miles, I'm stopping by Edmunds to read other's experiences. I can't believe how many people have had a blown head gasket on low mileage Civics. This is my second major complaint with the car ... the first being the air fuel sensor giving out a couple of years ago and the $400+ dealer quote on the repair. Honda should have covered both of these problems with recalls. Note to Honda marketing: *We WON'T be buying another Honda*.

We brought this car for a number of reasons, all of which are on the Lefty side of the political spectrum. We are not disappointed. I drive this car 56 miles every day to and from work, most of it is highway with a ten mile jaunt through a small semi-rural town. In the summer I was getting 42 mpg while in the winter it fell all the way down 31 mpg. You will find that the car's engine will not shutdown at stops when it is cold out which can be a bit of a problem up here in Minneasota. Further, when you have the defrost on the econ system, which makes the car shutdown at stops, deactivates. All in all I'm overjoyed with this cars performance on the winter roads, it handled like a dream!

Vehicle is dependable, quick and agile, economical to maintain. We drive it for our errands and we drive it a little less as we are getting older. only has 74000 miles on it and it is 13 years old. We have actually had people offer to buy it when they see it. The vehicle is never out of the garage unless we are driving it. It has value to us and as long as it looks good we will keep it. It has alloy wheels and is in good mechanical condition. Air condition system is good. We did not give it to our eldest granddaughter as she has turned 16. felt that it was a little small and she was inexperienced for this car.

You have heard about the Honda Civic lasting forever... think again. This has been the worst car I have ever purchased. My problems all began when I had to take the vehicle to get the rotors resurfaced at 7800 miles. They told me it was because of wear-and-tear. BULL. I had to replace the rotors three times w/in 50000 miles. I had to get the carpet inside replaced twice because it was getting a hole under the clutch because there was a piece of metal underneath that was not smooth. I also had to replace the button and locking mechanism for the lever that opens the trunk and the gas cap. That happened twice. The worst was when I tried to unlock it and the whole thing came out.

I bought a 2005 civic ex coupe brand new from my local dealer, and at first it was really not that bad, however after about my third fill up i realized that i was only getting an average of 22 miles to the gallon in town, i was told i would avarage 30 in town, then on cold days the car didn't want to start, took it to the dealer and of course they said they could not get it to act up, then i had issues with the passenger door panel failling off, finally i decided to trade it in for something better, which ended up being a 2000 bmw 328i the best car i have ever owned, i will never own another honda or will i recomed them to anyone.

The Hybrid is a terrific car. It's quiet, rides well and handles nimbly. I traded a Volvo 960 for this car and am very satisfied with its power and comfort under all road conditions. It is extremely well designed and engineered. Take it for a test drive and see for yourself.(The Prius is crude and clunky compared to the Civic.)I can cruise all day at highway speeds in comfort.

I hate this car. I cannot tell you how much I extremely dislike this car. Metal is way too thin - I have 3 major dents from damage in parking lots. When you let the windows down to clear off dew in the morning, the rubber gasket doesn't make contact with the window so it does not clear off the dew. Makes me wonder if rain is running straight down into the door. I have a vibration that started at about 5000 miles and I have had to have it fixed 3 times. They tell me that the AC cable that is running in the dash just behind the speedometer keeps coming loose and vibrating against the firewall. R rear window has a whistle (air leak) very annoying. of course thats a gasket problem - not covered.

Just for the record: "this was my wife's car before we got married, I would never have bought such a tiny little plastic car." Honda reliability everyone says? At about 10k miles the car wouldn't start, the lights and dashboard lights were flickering on and off every time I would try to start the car. This happened about 4 times. Every time this happened I needed a jump start, and had to wait about 1/2 hour for the car to calm down so I can restart it. About 1/2 a dozen times the car just would not start (even after replacing the battery). The interior? as cheap as they come, non- stop squeaks throughout the winter, NON-STOP! At about 40k miles the gas door would not even open anymore.

I love my Civic Hybrid. I am getting 47 MPG in mostly city driving. I commute about 20 minutes one way, all city streets, and it does great. Had it in Texas over the Holidays and it started without a problem at 15 degrees F, completely ignoring the cold. Good lights, great seats (easy to clean), good low end torque (can squeal the tires at startup). All in all, the Hybrid does everything any other Civic can do, just better (except for hot rodding.)

This is a fantastic car. Beautiful inside and outside: clean, simple, and effective. The control is nice and tight and the transmission, even for an automatic, is very smooth--both typical of Hondas. The EX model comes very well equipped with sunroof, 127 hp, alloy wheels, 6 speakers, CD player, ABS and a myriad of little things that make the entire car worthwhile. Gas mileage is great: 31 City, 37 Highway. I got the car perfectly content without any of the dealer installed options like foglights and interior trims. The foglights would be nice but the installation fees are absurdly high.

I have had my new Honda now for 3 months. I went from a Toyota Camry which I loved dearly until it was totaled in May. I had about a week to find a new car that I liked. I have always been a Toyota girl, until I started driving my Civic. I love it. The guys at the dealership were great even though they knew I was going to have to purchase a car. The dealers at Toyota were not very nice at all. My car is awesome!

I purchased this vehicle due to ever rising fuel prices and I just don't like handing my hard earned money over to the middle east. So far I am extremely satisfied with the perfomance and fuel economy of this hybrid. It rides pretty good for a smaller vehicle and handles very nice. I don't know if I will come out ahead of the fiel costs due to having to replace the main battery in 8 years or so but having the peace of mind that my money will go into the vehicle battery instead of polluting the environment satisfies me. I also have peace of mind that I am in a very safe vehicle every time I get behind the wheel too. Overall I feel that this is one of the best new vehicles that I purchased.

I'm a life-long Honda owner. I had stints with Plymouth, Subaru, and Jeep but always go back to Honda. This little car is the perfect example why. Although not as flashy (Mazda 3), Luxurious (Toyota Corolla), or fast (Dodge Neon) as other brands, this car offers a complete package and does it VERY well. No other model can touch the the design and ergonomics of Honda. Only Honda and Toyota offer top notch quality, safety, reliablity and resale value. If your priorities are reliability, fuel economy, quality construction, and roomy interior, this is the car for you! If you want a car that is fun to drive but drops in value like a concrete balloon go with almost any domestic sedan.

I previously owned a V6 Accord but with fuel prices so high and my fuel economy so low it was time for a change. The switch to the (ULEV)Civic was the best move I could have made. It has all the features I expect along with great fuel economy (Sorry large truck and SUV folks 12 hwy/8 city is NOT good gas mileage) and is very quiet to drive both in town and on the highway. I'm saving about $15-20 per week on gas vs. the Accord so far and have never looked back. So if you need a great small sedan to zip around town or for those weekend getaways I would highly recommend this car.

Driving position feels like a coupe. Tight build quality. Great fuel economy and quality meterials used throughout. Far superior to my '98 Jetta. While not a performance car, the performance is evrything I expected from a Honda and more. Very comfortable feeling from the brakes and no jack rabbit acceleration. A truely refined compact. I used to own a 94 accord that never had any problems other than rust (289,000 miles), so when I bought my newish car I only looked at Honda's. Mistake. The car's quality is not very good. The cable for opening the gas tank broke recently so I have to open the gas tank door through the trunk $200 to fix). Car has a strange overheating problem that the dealer cannot diagnose, not good soundproofing in car, engine is loud, The warranty on these cars in crap, does not get that great of gas mileage, maybe 25-35. This car is boring to drive, especially in an automatic. However the car handles nicely in upstate NY snow and I feel safe in it. I think Honda is riding on their laurels...

Purchased new 05 Civic LX. Exterior is fine, looks good, drives good, the tranny is smooth, (a little slow) but smooth. Good braking, solid little car. Decent room for a small car, interior layout, nice, good seats. But, the interior pops like a bowl of Rice Krispies and it's very, VERY annoying. Test drove Corolla, did same thing on test drive and I didn't purchase because of the popping. (Civic didn't do this on test drive) Had 02 Camry did same thing. Looks like Japan is going the way of GM with the rattling interior. Why can't auto makers make vehicles that don't snap, crackle & pop when you drive? Honda gets a "D" for the interior build of this Civic. Thank goodness for a good stereo!

This is my second Honda Civic EX Coupe. I decided to give the Civic another chance as a commuter car. My other cars are an 05 EX Accord and an 05 EX CR-V. So far so good, no major complaints. This is a very good car within limits. I've owned 12 cars in the past 25 years. It doesn't matter if they are domestic or imports, there's problems with them. The Hondas I've owned have been no more reliable than Fords or Chryslers. People need to realize these are machines that can break down regardless who builds them. They're cars; take them for what they are, not who builds them!

I purchased my Civic in July and then left on a 15000 mile cross country trip. As a four cylinder car, it doesn't shoot up the mountains but more than makes up for that in its handling ability. On the highway at crusing speeds of 75-89, it was wonderful and with cruise control on, the gas mileage was top notch (regularly 41 mpg). The interior of the car is spacious, given the compact size of the car and the features (radio, AC, etc.) are convenient and easy to reach.

The 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid performs as expected from a Honda product, but has a battery located behind the back seat. The battery provides additional power to the small but adequate gasoline engine. As a manager I purchased the automobile for frequent short distance trips and have been very pleased to find out that the fuel economy is enhanced by stop and go driving. Each time the vehicle stops, the battery charges and is used to boost the gasoline engine. The most interesting part of the vehicle(s), we purchased two, is that when it is at a stop, you cannot hear the engine at all. The ones we purchased have all of the bells and whistles of any other car, but is very practical.

2005 Honda Civic EX 2dr Coupe (1.7L 4cyl 4A)

I bought this car for 2 things fuel economy, and reliability. Based on those 2 things I am very happy with this vehicle. My main down point on this car would have to be the complete lack of any get up and go. Off the line starting power is poor, while the motor does pretty well at speeds in excess of 55 mph with little struggle. I don't think that this car is worth what it sells for, but so long as I can get 7 or more years of reliability out of this I will be pleased with my purchase.

The Honda Civic EX special edition 4door manual is a really fun car to drive. The interior of the vehicle is also extremely nice. I have only noticed a few minor things that I don't like. For example the paint on the front bumper is peeling but other than that problem it's a great car. I can't wait to get another one.

The shifter is really nice and the feel of the shift engagements are superb, even for a cable shifter linkage. Almost as nice as my friends S2000, which has direct mechanical linkage. The handling is very neutral, and the OEM Michelin tires feel as grippy as the Kumhos Ecsta 712s on my previous WRX. At least, the handling is very similar if not better, than the mentioned WRX. To me, it feels like there is morepower at mid RPM than WOT.

Gas Company Approval for Home Filling

2005 Honda Civic GX w/ABS 4dr Sedan (1.7L 4cyl CVT)

The quality of the US built CIVIC GX is excellent. The rear seats only two people and the trunk space is smaller because of the CNG tank. The fuel mileage is close to 31 mpg. Do not forget to get approval from The Gas Company before purchase if you plan to install the PHILL unit (home fueling) The selling dealer may not tell you about obtaining approval from the Southern California Gas Company. The PHILL can not be installed in all areas because the Natural Gas may not be approved for use as a motor fuel. It took 21 days for the Gas Company to approve the gas delivered to my home for use as a motor fuel!

I just bought this car this weekend. Beautiful on the outside, very plain on the inside. Rides very smooth and provides a nice acceleration. Great value but nothing special in the package. This is a great commute car, but not nice enough for a family car. With a few extra purchases at your local auto store you can make it like the upgrades for a lot less. Auto doors, remote starter, remote trunk pop for $179 at your local auto parts store. If you no someone who can put it in for you, you will have the next upgrade for a fraction of the cost.

Bought this car because I wanted something sporty but with a useable hatchback/cargo area. Gotta tell you for a small car, the cargo area is surprisingly large. Love the midrange acceleration and the way the car hugs the curves. Friends are impressed with the sporty appearance--haven't gotten one comment about the mini minivan look. Would buy this car again in a heart beat!!

Car handles great. It's responsive and stops on a dime. Head room is low and driver's seat for tall driver has to be slightly reclined to be comfortable.

Daughter bought this car new and it now is just passing 30,000 miles. Drove it back and forth to college, and we are very comfortable in knowing that since it's a Honda, it will give her years of dependable driving as she gets settled in her career. Had a problem with the cruise when she first got it, but was covered by warranty. Gas mileage is excellent! 40 city/45 highway. Had AC installed at the dealer. No complaints with the car at all. Put new tires on it recently, so she's good to go till she hits 100K. Don't see too many HX models on the road, but hers was reasonably priced and worth the investment.
