disapointed with gas mileage
I lover the vehicle. It rides real nice. Handles the road well and looks sharp with the spoiler. I love everything about it except that I was very disapointed with the mileage. I ride mostly highway and have filled up the tank several times and I am averaging 27-28 miles to the gallon. This I found very disappointing because I only baught the car to save gas and I thought that I would get better mileage than this. But I do love the car.
Great car!
All the reviews are right...great value for the money you pay. This is the best affordable car out there right now. You can't find any better.

Love My Civic
I traded in my 1998 Chevy Cavalier for a gently used 2004 Civic. My husband is all about Hondas (he currently drives a 2000 Honda Accord) so it wasn't hard to convince him that the Civic would be a safe and reliable purchase. It is easy to handle and is great on gas. I drive the highway a lot and there is minimal road noise inside the passenger compartment.
Nothing beats a Honda!
we own 2 of these a 2001 and 2004 and have had no trouble with either one.the dealership is the best run dealership I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. my next car will be a Honda again!
Civic Si
Fantastic car. Only averages 28 mpg though. Beautiful from every angle inside & out. No mechanical problems at all. Stiff ride for Detroit roads. Great in the curves. Does 125 mph with ease. Super quality materials inside. Made in Europe. Great value at $17,200. Hondas hold their value great. I'm already ahead of the depreciation curve after only 1.5 years.
2004 honda civic lx sedan
traded in my 2002 honda civic lx sedan for a 2004 honda civic lx sedan. Basically afar improvement.
Best engineering ever
In terms of meeting expectations, this vehicle is the best I've ever owned! We're delighted to be getting 40.1 mpg (36,000 mi) in reasonable comfort and variable driving conditions saving more than half the monthly cost of gas relative to our SUV (which I still use for off-road work).
A perfect 10
I am 100% satified with this car and Fernadez Honda gave me a great deal on it.
nice car for the money
Great gas mileage. I was going to get a VW TDI Jetta, waaaaay too much $$$. I paid 12200 for my Civic with only a few options. Even at 2$ a gallon it would take me 10 years to make of the difference in price. I test drove the Jetta, It wasn't that powerful of a car. Think twice before you are willing to fork over the extra cash. I also drove the Toyota Corolla, and Focus. The Focus remided me of my of another Ford great, the Pinto. They wanted 16k for it! Overall I liked the style of the jetta little more, it wasn't worth the extra $. The Civic also did very well in crash tests.
outstanding!
I have the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid and it is great!Looks and runs outstanding I get more MONEY in MY pocket. The mpg on my car is 46mpg to 50mpg AND I do NOT have to plug it in,just drive it like any other car BUT! watch the money build up in YOUR pocket NOT the Gas Companies pocket.I think the WORLD should buy this "NOW" car until a better model comes along.....MS
2004 Civic Hybrid
We haven't achieved the mileage advertised, however, it is satisfactory. 43mpg on a trip is the best we've gotten, and that's good considering your foot is in it on the interstate system. I'm a big man, so I could use some more room. Once in position, I'm all right. Comfortable ride considering the size. You must drive knowing your capability when merging at high speeds. This isn't a race car. The transmission is very smooth. The radio is from hunger. It's the poorest thing about the car. Using the cruise control gives best economy on the highway. Would get another one without concern, but would barter on the price more seriously. May save $1K, but don't expect to save more.
Buy one
This car is Great, It fits anyones needs and is a true turn key car! Great on gas with lots of room I'm 6' tall and a big guy I fit in the car very nice and still have lots more room. Oh one other thing it has lots of get up and go power for a small car.
Best First Car
This is my first car and i love it! My parents wanted me to have something reliable, but stylish.
my favorite car
In 31 years of owning and driving cars, including trucks, a 4wd wagon, and a sporty hatchback, this is most definitely my favorite. I am averaging 45.4 mpg overall in mostly short city driving. The electric motor gives a peppy assist on acceleration, and the frugal 1.3L engine barely sips the gasoline. It is a civic so it is a fun car to scoot around town in, and it is a honda so it is reliable. As sort of a nerd I enjoy the new technology and the instant MPG readouts. And it is satisfying to try to do something to ease our country's dependence on foreign oil. It is a fabulous car and I look forward to the days ahead when all car models are offered with hybrid technology.
I love my Honda!
I rave about this car so often that two co-workers have purchased Honda Civic's also. It is one of the best cars I have ever owned. And it is simply one of the best cars on the market. It looks beautiful. Runs wonderfully. Has a good stereo. Comfortable seats. Great visibility. The materials are top notch and the fit and finish is exceptional. Reliability has been perfect. I would buy another one without hesitation.
Honda All the Way
I have owned my 04 EX 4 door for four years now and I can't say enough about the kind of car Honda builds. All I have done is regular maintenance and tires. Averaging 32 mpg and the car is still worth $10K on trade. What a car, my wife has a C-RV and my next car will be an Accord. HONDA ALL THE WAY!!!
Best Compact car for a reason
I purchased my car from Tempe Honda, In Arizona and and was extremely pleased, it was no pressure, and my salesman Brian could not have been more helpful. I looked at the other cars on the market and the Civic was by far the best. It had the best safety, best fuel economy, and best looks, although that last one is a bit subjective. I purchased one of the first of the redesigned 04 civic's. I have had no problems, and because this is not my first honda, I do not expect any. Overall, like the title says, it is the best compact car for a reason.
Awesome
Honda Civics are awesome. They are the best cars out there. The power steering works great and it handles well. It definitely draws attention whereever I go.
all out great car
I bought the LX because it doesnt have the V-tech engine. (I plan on throwing the 2.4 out of a CRV under the hood) Its a great car. Everything you do to the engine adds power. I definitely recommend this car to anybody. Whether you wanna make it fast like me or just drive it to work in the morning.
There is nothing better than this!!!
I have owned a BMW before I can attest to the fact having a reliable car is more important than having an fancier car. This car is a very simple car thus everything works as advertised. I have owned this car for almost 3-yrs now and I haven't had a single mechanical problem. Also trade-in value of this car is about $11000 even though I only paid $14500 for it about 3-yrs ago. This is not a performance car but it is an everyday winner. You can easily own this car for 10-yr worry free with regular interval oil-change and stuff. Just remember Honda's specialty is engines and these things live forever. I just love Hondas.
10
this is the best ever
Special and Fun
I traded an '02 Si for this '04 and I love the larger wheels and the sharper design of the headlights and taillights. Handling, cornering are fantastic. Engine noise. What engine noise? The engine loves to rev so even city driving is fun.
william
Best vehicle I have ever owned. I sold New and Used vehicles for 8 years and this Honda Civic LX Coupe is the best Value. In all categories-ride, gas mileage and performance - this car is the "Best I Have Ever Owned".
Worth Buying
I recently purchased this car, and the quality of the materials in the interior is great (radio/cd player could use some styling to go with the gauges). For a compact car there is plenty of room in the rear seat and trunk. Gets great mileage and is priced very reasonably when compared to the Corolla when evenly equipped. Thought about the Mazda3, but we all know Honda's hold their value much better than just about another other maker.
do I like it or don't I?
My first manual transmission in almost 4 years. I like to drive it mostly... I hate it when I'm stuck in traffic on the highway and it's stop then go up to 40 miles an hour then stop. That's a headache.
You get what you expect
I sold my Wrangler (which I loved) because of a new long commute to work, and needed economy. Si wasn't my first choice, but only because I hadn't thought of it and was looking into more common cars. What I like about it is that it isn't so common. I've noted it on the street before, and it seems so much nicer-designed than a base Civic. I feel small inside, considering it *looks* small on the outside. To me it is very quiet, smooth, adequately powerful. My beefs are with ergonomics and design. The big silver swath that is the center console is cheap/ugly compared to the nice materials used throughout the rest of the cabin-it looks like an afterthought. Its great overall.
get what you pay for
I bought this car as my 02 accord v6 came off lease. With the price of gas figured the civic would treat me better, and it has. My complaints (which seem to be redundant) come from the cheap bits and overall inexpensive feel of the car. After 7000 miles I also have "heel holes" in the driver's floor mat. The passenger window doesn't close (started after 4000 miles), the cloth armrest is beginning to form a hole where my elbow goes, and, after being hit in a parking lot, I am looking at replacing the rear bumper. Hey things happen, but at nearly $400 estimate for the rear bumper ... come on ... I thought this was an economy car! By the way, there is no power lock lever on the passenger side?!?!?
Great car
Super little car that performs like a much higer priced car. You can just feel the quality of this car.
Perfect Car
Great Car, I bought a honda after hearing such good reviews from all honda owners, this was the best car I could hae put my money into, Everything is just where it should be without anything extra to get in the way. I am for sure a Honda customer from now on.
Fun with current gas prices!!!
Honda built a fun reliable little car. I threw some 18" wheels and sport tires on there and it handles 100% better than stock. Be careful with the side skirt mouldings, they are held on with double sided tape ... cheap!!
Driver
The honda civic hybrid that I have looks exactely like a civic modle just that it is a Hybrid. The driving is GREAT and I do NOT have to worry about the battery charge, the car does ALL that for me, I just drive the car.
A blessing, but a mixed one.
This car is roomy and comfortable, and drives and handles well. However, there are a few bad points. The dashboard materials creak and rattle when the temp. is below about 40 (indicating poor workmanship to me). There is a slight vibration in the steering wheel ataround 68-70MPH. The car has a slight hesitation until it warms up fully, inexcusable in a fuel-injected car. And the engine is not quiet during acceleration, including a low-level high-pitched whine (though idle is smooth). The dealer says these are all "characteristics of the car" and will not "fix" them. But reliability, fuel economy, overall comfort and driveability are typical Honda. More plusses than minuses here.
Don't look like a "Mom" car anymore
Drives like a gocart, good gas mileage, after tinting and adding Sirius Satellite Radio, replacing entire aftermarket system, plus extras.. (Oh yea the Factory speakers are actually plastic frames.) I now have added rims off of a 2003 EX Civic. Now the car actually almost looks about right.. The original factory hub cap rims had to go... Brakes have a problem when going down a slight incline once in a blue. Almost feels like it wants to lock up, had Honda Tech check out but naturally no show on the problem. Would like to put a better brake system, when these wear out. For the price paid on this car they should at least have disk all the way around on an LX. 16K on a civic is too much.
Civic Coupe Review
I'm fairly happy with the car. However, the power to gas milage ratio is disappointing... Avg. 25 mpg at freeway speeds with A/C on (rated at 38 mpg).
A thrilled owner
I love my EX coupe, with a spoiler and a sunroof, and alloy rims. Though recently I have had to crank it for 2-3 seconds on a cold start. But mine has 90k miles on her, and i kinda beat the hell out of her for the entire time. And I bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty, so I'm not too worried. The seats are great for long trips. Large trunk for an economy car. And I'm a college student so that is important. I always tell my friends to buy a Civic. They are the only car that actually lives up to its reputation, for the better
FINE RIDE
I have owned 24 Hondas in my life and this is by far the best. Excellent mileage, never been to the shop. Has 63000 miles on it now. Honda has really hit the jackpot on this one. Too bad the public doesn't know it.
Great Car
This car is one of the best cars I've owned. Almost no complaints. Great gas mileage, almost 35 mpg, looks greats and runs amazing. Off the line it can keep up with most 6 cylinder cars. Mine is only a 4. The tires that came with it were too soft. Needed to be replaced way too soon. Also, it's hard to see out the back when backing and there's a big blind spot when changing lanes. Not the best winter car. My gas line constantly freezes and since the car is so light, it can be very hard to keep control in snow. Suggest putting a little weight in the car for snow. Otherwise the car is great. During summer, can open sun roof and windows, and enjoy a nice drive. All in All, great car!
Excellent
The car is awesome.
2004 Civic LX Sedan AT
This car is pretty fun to drive. The acceleration is decent, and the ride quality is smooth. I'm not getting as good of a gas milage as I wanted, but it's good enough(around 26 mpg). The exterior is candy for my eye, I love it. The interior looks clean and there is a lot of space in the front of the car. The rear is pretty tight but I've had 5 people in the car a few times and no one complained so I guess it's cozy back there. The build quality seems mediocre. The hood bends in and out a little bit if you press it.
my lifesaver
ive had this car for 7 months...and it is so much fun to drive and i drive alot....the first week i had i drove to virgina from florida and back..and several times to orlando and i have had no problems and the milage is perfect for what i use it for.it was everything i had wanted and more
Honda Civic Hybrid
Fun to drive, lots of room, great gas mileage, excellent price!!
Good car, but no longer the best
I got this car mainly b/c I like the local Honda dealer so much. I retrospect, I wish I'd gone with the higher fun factor that you get with the Mazda Protege5 or the new 3. I would also like the wagon utility that the Honda doesn't have. The Civic has good ergonomics and a quiet cabin. It is easy to work on and gets great gas mileage. The 04 facelift is also far more appealing than the earlier Civics. On the down side the car is painfully slow due in part to the gearing which seems more interested in fuel economy than performance. The seats are also a bit uncomfortable on the long haul. Overall, the Civic is a good car but the Mazdas are a lot more fun.
my honda civic
The Honda Civic LX is a peppy car. Can get up to speed quickly for highway driving. The car is easy to park and has very good visablity.
Great Value
Car packages your body in a comfortable and safe position. Very good visibility from all angles of the driver position. Excellent fuel economy. Quiet ride except on roughest roads. Climate control is at your fingertips. Radio/CD player provides good quality sound
very good car
This is my second honda civic , it is a 2004 si sedan. the buld quality is very good, but it is lacking power, especially when merging onto the highway.
Reliable Honda
The Honda Civic really is the best value. I wish it had more horsepower. However, horsepower or not, in a few years it will be worth more than all other 2004's in its class.
A gentle, smooth and responsive car.
Outstanding appearance has brought many positive comments from others. Everything works and there are no rattles. Severe bumps give a mild thud rather than a bang and crackle. Steering excelent, responsive and easy. Very good radio with high frequency units up at ear level that is nice for one with a hearing deficit. Interior is larger than I expected and a big trunk space. Engine is very quiet with a very smooth idle.
2004 SI
Overall, I absolutely love this car. My only major complaint is that there's occasionally excessive cabin noise from the brakes. I also wish that the gear ratio between first and second was a little closer. Aside from that, I get better than posted mileage (I average 31 mpg mixed, 34 if I'm only driving highway), the seats are extremely comfortable, the handling is close to perfect, the design is original and attractive.
Da Coupe
This car is a great car from Honda. I have owned two civic coupes and both have been great. The coupe I have now is manual, and suggest folks to get the manual if you like stick and sporty fun. Gas mileage is great also. Overall, a great car for any age. Performance and economy all in one.
Whats Not To Like?
This car never lets me down. Excellent quality build, decent performance for the size of engine and fabulous gas mileage. I am very pleased with this car, wish I'd been driving Hondas for the past 30 years instead of a series of disapointing North American vehicles.
