2004 Civic Hybrid a winner!!!
The civic hybrid looks and runs like a normal civic. Pros and Cons are that other drivers don't know you're driving a hybrid. The performance and the dollars savings on fuel is worth a serious look at this environmentally friendly real vehicle.
This is a great car!
I bought this car used (w/21,000 miles) and paid almost the full retail of what a new 2005 goes for. Nevertheless, I'm completely satisfied with this Civic EX Coupe. The color (Satin Silver), the styling (the headlamps, taillamps, alloy wheels, sheetmetal creases on hood and down the sides), the value features for the money (cruise, 6 speaker stereo, ABS, sunroof, keyless entry) and then there's the great gas mileage! I'm average around 35mpg in mixed driving. Pickup and power are good for a car that weighs around 2600lbs. This is my second Honda (first was an '86 Accord LX-i hatchback) and hopefully this one will do 200,000 miles plus like my first one!

I only had to take it back once in 34000 miles. The plastic right front windshield post covering was rattling after 20000 miles of dirt roads. Fixed in about an hour. I get 43 to 44 mpg at 80M.P.H. on Interstate, and 49 to 51 M.P.G.around town. The best I got was in the Keys (54-56 M.P.G. (flat land below 55 M.P.H.) And yes, I would buy another one, my other vehicle is a 2003 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab truck.(17 to18 M.P.G.) 15 M.P.G. on the Interstate.
Civic si
The Civic SI is a very fun car to drive. I had a 95 civic ex I traded in on this car. Its diffentaly a better car.
Love the Hybrid--
Love my car although it gets great gas mileage, it's not as great as I thought it would be. More leg room would be nice.
Very Comfortable Drive
The most interesting thing about driving this vehicle is that you really don;t notice anything different about it. It handles like any other Honda Civic. Now, that bwing said, it is a little unnerving at first, when the engine shuts down at a light, but the car is so quiet that you normally don;t even notice that, or the fact that the engine starts again when you take your foot off the brake. I had an SUV prior to this, and only filling the tank once a month is a treat.
I love my Civic Hybrid
I get 47mpg highway, 39 city. It took a little getting used to driving a hybrid at first. The engine 'autostop' was a shocker. Who would ever think of an engine shutting off while stopped in traffic? And when entering a highway, going uphill was also a bit tough. In order to get more power, you shift into 2 for a few seconds, then just shift back into 1. (This is with an automatic civic sedan.) A few things I miss from my 2002 Honda Civic EX are the color. . I also gained alloy wheels, side impact airbags. In short, I love my honda hybrid!
best car yet
My daughter bought this car and has now driven 2000 miles. I went along with her for several rides. I found it quiet, and roomy in the passenger seat. When she finally let me drive it, I found it a bit underpowered, but thats a good thing for my Little Miss Leadfoot! All in all, its a stylish, comfortable good quality car. On a 1- 10 I would givr it a 9.
realy gets 36 mpg
Purchased new in 2003. 16 months and 24000 miles later no breakdowns, no trouble at all. daily 25 mile commute on coutry roads gets 36 mpg cruising at 65 mph gets 42 mpg, driving really hard trough the mountains with 3 people and luggage still gets 32 mpg.
great car....especially for the money
We bought this car a little over a month ago, so obviously we don't have much to say about reliability. But, this is a great car. First of all, it's beautiful (we got it in the green). Also, it has a very smooth ride, especially for a smaller engine. It accelerates very well, has an amazing turning radius, and gets amazing gas mileage. I LOVE the inside of it, very nice and sleek and uncluttered.
Honda Review
1st and foremost this vehicle has never accepted more than 11 gals of fuel, the most miles I have gotten to a tank was 385, I don't know how others can say they went 500 miles on a tank. 2nd I have been in two marble size hale storms and to my amazement no damage what so ever, call it luck, but that is amazing. Other than that I drive 114 miles a day and never had a problem thus far.
Still love it
After driving my Honda Hybrid for over 30,000 miles and to both coasts of the country, I still love it. Lots of pep and fun to drive. Two friends have already bought thier own after seeing and driving mine. Only draw-back is that it will need snow tires in prolonged winter driving conditions. It also was sluggish going over Vail pass, or any high, long, mountain pass.
i love my car
i love my car it is a great and very reliable car!!! :)
Good car, but no longer the best
I got this car mainly b/c I like the local Honda dealer so much. I retrospect, I wish I'd gone with the higher fun factor that you get with the Mazda Protege5 or the new 3. I would also like the wagon utility that the Honda doesn't have. The Civic has good ergonomics and a quiet cabin. It is easy to work on and gets great gas mileage. The 04 facelift is also far more appealing than the earlier Civics. On the down side the car is painfully slow due in part to the gearing which seems more interested in fuel economy than performance. The seats are also a bit uncomfortable on the long haul. Overall, the Civic is a good car but the Mazdas are a lot more fun.
Solid Economy
Although my Civic Hybrid does not get quite to mileage advertised, it consistently gives me mileage in the 40's and in the high 40's in highway driving. It is solid and has an excellent safety rating--which is one reason I chose it over the Toyota Prius. Its design is not pretentious, which I prefer.
Our First Honda
This car is a great car. I have always bought american, and was hesitant on going forign. I am very pleased with this car. I would recommend it to anoyne. I drive about 125 miles per day, and I am certain that this car will perform great, well over 150k miles.
Civic/Hybrid picture
Overall, an outstanding vehicle. Love how the engine seems to come to a complete shut down at stops when the electric motor takes over. So far, the mileage has not lived up to the advertising, but certainly much better than most other cars. The trunk is a bit too small, otherwise, an excelle
Honda still #1 - 6 Honda's later!
This is my 6th Honda! My first was an 86 Civic. I've had Civic's and Accords both. My family has had about 15 of them all together. You just can beat them for quality, value for the dollar, resale value, durability. I'd recommend them to anyone and everyone.
Certified PreOwned YEAR 2002
I bought this car in June of 2004. It was a 2002 Honda Certified Preowned Civic EX. I love this car. It is reliable and sturdy. The engine is a little loud, but what can you expect. I had a few problems when I got it- minor. The dealership paid for it and gave me a rental car. Things like the light burnt out, the battery died etc.. Just maintanace issues. Again, like I said it was paid for- and I was given a rental car for 100% FREE! If I had a chois to buy this car over again - I would say YES, with out hesitation. My previous car was a 93 Toyota Camry. I had to get use to the smaller size, however the quality and reliability I did not have to comprimise
Reliability Unquestionable
I just wish GM, Ford, and other American makers would make reliable cars of solid engineering ... this is my 4th Honda!
Laugh at the Gas Stations
As we pass the gas stations we laugh. Our Honda Hybrid gets 45 MPG and rides like a dream. It is fun to drive also. We really get a kick out of listening to the engine stop at stop lights. If you have a hybrid you know what I mean. Tee Hee
Love the gas milege too!!
WE THOUGHT THIS CAR WOULDN'T BE AS COMFORTALBE AS WE HOPED....WE WERE VERY SURPRISED WHEN WE TOOK A LONG TRIP TO CANADA IN IT. THE FIRST THING PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE CAR IS "I LOVE THE COLOR" (SILVER BLUE) THEN WHEN THEY RIDE IN IT, THEY CAN'T BELIEVE HOW QUIET IT IS! WE HOPE THIS CAR LAST FOR MANY YEARS! WE LOVE IT!
Best Car in Its Class
I just got a Magnesium Metallic 2004 Civic LX Automatic Sedan. Few things that made me buy this car: - Awesome refinement of the exterior and interior of the car. Sporty bumpers! I won't put some new skirts for a while. Blue speedometer and nice dash! Cool at night. - Built-in features: cruise control, power windows, side mirror, locks, keyless entry, cd player, window antenna - Known good resale value and reliability of Honda Cars - Most of all, got it a grand below invoice price and DC included!! alright! Do your homework! Haggle with the Internet Managers in your area. Goodluck!
Grrrreat!
Fun to drive! Onlly gripes: Too much body lean during cornering, RPM's too high at 70 mph (5-speed - @ 3500 RPM).
Great 1st car!
After thorough research on Consumer Reports and other car rating websites, I found the Honda Civic to meet my needs while cutting fuel costs and keeping the cost of my car under $20,000. With my job, I put on heavy mileage. I am very glad I bought the Civic EX. The manual shift may have been more fun to drive, but since I commute through so much traffic each day, it wasnt worth getting. Riding this car each day is fun, reliable and efficient. Id get it all over again if I were given the choice. Great first or commuter car!
Hybrid Civic
So, a change in outlook has taken me from a 15 mpg Durango to the 51 mpg Civic. I just love this little car so far. My new job is about 60 miles away, and I'll be commuting for a couple of months. This will be a great commuter. If I drive it on the freeway at 75 mph, I seem to get about 45 mpg. At a more leisurely pace of 65 and under, it'll pull down an honest (at least according to the digital readout) 52+ mpg.
Happy Shopper
Fernandez Honda is a new dealership in San Antonio, TX. They have a very professional establishment. I did a lot of research prior to buying the car and did very little negotiating. I set a price and stuck with it. The facility has free internet, popcorn, vending and movies availiable if you need any maintenance. A+ for the management.
major problem
the engine turns off when the car is still, so when you are parallel parking on a hill the car stalls and rolls.
Dependable car
I got this civic by tradigin it in with my two door '02 civic. I like the new design of the vehicle, its not as lop sided as the '01 body style, and the inside is essentially the same. Its a car I can depend on having for the next decade of my life.
Honda Civic Hybrid
I love this car. I bought it before the recent spike in gas prices and I'm glad i did. My other vehicle was 1 2002 Dodge Dakota and with 15mpg it was impractical to use it as my every day car. This vehicle gets in the mid 40's in the winter and improves to over 50 now that the weather has warmed.
04 Civic Review
I've only had the car for one month...Excellent car...great for short rides or long trips...depending where you live the rims on the EX are "very popular", but to me the EX is worth the extra amount
Civic hybrids
i like my car
I Love My SI
I have been wanting this car for over 6 months and got it at last on October 1st. Everything about this car is off the hook, good car for pople of all ages.
38 miles per gallon highway
I wanted something Sporty and the Honda 2 door 5 speed was nice ,but I had to think about my kids having to crawl in and out of the back seat. I settled for the Honda DX, I get good gas mileage, the stereo CD player sounds great and the cab is big enough for my family of 5. The only con I can think of is that there is a bit of road noise when the radio is not turned on. Another plus is the high resale value, compared to the other cars in it's class. If you but from the Tim Smith store on highway 98 in Ft Walton Beach ask for Alex...he is a great salesman and will treat you right.
great car !!
regular Civic looks, handling, feel, comfort. Great acceleration off the stoplights. Wonderful brakes.
2004 Honda Civic Hybrid CVT
I have to admit to being skeptical. I live in a mountainous area, so performance can be an issue. Not so here. This car is perfect! I can pass other vehicles uphill at 55 mph and not break a sweat! Fun and powerful, this is a great car. With the cost saving hybrid technology, I recommend this car for everyone.
very good car
This is my second honda civic , it is a 2004 si sedan. the buld quality is very good, but it is lacking power, especially when merging onto the highway.
Don't look like a "Mom" car anymore
Drives like a gocart, good gas mileage, after tinting and adding Sirius Satellite Radio, replacing entire aftermarket system, plus extras.. (Oh yea the Factory speakers are actually plastic frames.) I now have added rims off of a 2003 EX Civic. Now the car actually almost looks about right.. The original factory hub cap rims had to go... Brakes have a problem when going down a slight incline once in a blue. Almost feels like it wants to lock up, had Honda Tech check out but naturally no show on the problem. Would like to put a better brake system, when these wear out. For the price paid on this car they should at least have disk all the way around on an LX. 16K on a civic is too much.
Good car
i got this car as a high school senior and i thought it was the best automotive purchase i could have made. it is reliable, sporty looking, and has good gas mileage, and it is very roomy in the inside. it is very easy to handle and its and inexpensive to maintain.
Review
I have enjoyed the quiet, reliable, comfortable performance of this car. I get 40 to 44 MPG gasoline during the cooler months. People comment on the beauty and the quiet performance of the engine. I am amused every time someone asks me, "You don't ever have to plug it in?"
Best car for the money
This is the 3rd Honda we have purchased in two years. All three have proven to be outstanding vechicles. I highly recommend them.
Honda Sustain's and 86's
In a years time and lots of highway travel, we have enjoyed our experience. However, a few things that buyers should know. One is the brake pads. We had to replace them at the 20k mile mark and recently I over heard an Accord owner discussing with a service manager their replacement also at 20k miles. I've owned numerous makes and models. Ford brake pads lasted longer than this. And I drove that car harder and under more harsh conditions. The other complaint is road noise and handling. It's highway road noise shouldn't be over looked as well as its ability to handle like it should. Freeway ramps (clover-leaf style) you will have to slow down as others don't.
A Happy Little Car
Traded in Cadillac STS for this little jewel. A Cadillac it is not, but the steering is precise and it corners beautifully and I actually prefer the Civics firm ride. Fit and finish are excellent. It's power is adequate for the mountainous terrain here and the gas mileage (always 48 mpg or better) makes you smile as you pass the gas stations.Besides that, the car is just FUN to drive. I can find no fault with the car!
Honda civic more expensive, but saves
You get what you pay for rings true with the Civic! Sure you will pay $2K more for this car over comparable sedans. But you get a car that can easily go 200K miles without any major repairs just regular maitenence. You have a car that buyers will fight for when you are ready to sell it. High resale, no costly and timely repair bills. Much better quality. Plus those autos offering those huge 100K mile warranties. Guess what, the seldom honor them anyhow! Been there, done that too! I have owned Honda Civcs for 18 years, never had any major problems with any of them. My last one was 7 years old had 227,000 miles on it, and it sold for $2900.
great car
i bought a civic hybrid a couple months ago. the car is great and incredibly comfortable for a compact. although the car is in great need of more power it is great. i would say the only flaw of this car is the 95hp it has under the hood. I hope to purchase an accord hybrid soon.
Over the average
in the present market of models of this segment, this car has the best of each thing. A really good car
cool
Hondas run forever! The gas is great and you pay less for more!!
Happy EX Owner
This is a very reliable car that gets very good gas mileage. I am getting 41 mpg on the highway and 34-36 mpg city. I have the 4 door sedan that has plenty of room for 4 people. Trunk capacity is very good. Bought the vehicle brand new and now I have 45,000 miles on it. I have never had to take it in for service for anything more than the normal oil change and the regular maint. Resale value is great! I am a very happy Honda owner.
Love this car
I fell in love with this car the first time I ran it up through the gears: the steering is tight, the gear pattern is tight, the suspension is tight and feels right with the rest of it. Sporty feel. Gas mileage is better than stated: we're getting 27-28 city, 32-35 highway. And those highway miles are at well over the speed limit. Plenty of power for passing up-hill. Stable at speed and doesn't get blown around by trucks.
Bang for the Buck
Talk about a getting the best deal! I locked in a deal $400 above invoice with 2.9% financing and with Edmunds help, negotiated away all the fluff such as extended warranty. This is by no means a performance car at 115 hp but it really is fun to drive. I had a 97 Volkswagen Jetta before that really cost me a lot of maintenance fees. This Civic should last a lifetime and if I ever want to sell it, I know I will get a good value.
