Used 2002 Honda Civic Consumer Reviews
Great Little Car
This is my first economy car after owning ford and chevy pickup trucks. The ride is very smooth and the the 1.7 liter vortec has enough power( remember that this is a economy car and not a sports car) so don't expect it to be fast. The rotors do tend to warp, So expect a pronounce shimmy while braking at high speeds.
Great Car
I've had my 2002 Civic for 3,000 miles and absolutely love it. I went from a '96 minivan to this and wow what a difference. Obvious improvements in gas mileage and reliability; I don't why I stuck with the van for so long. 5 speed's got plenty of kick. A little problem with misc. rattles on right door and windshield visor. Plenty of room for transportation in back seat and a surprisingly large trunk.
Whitney B. Walker
I got a civic because my previous car was an unrestored 64 ford mustang (that needed a lot of work) and I just wanted a car I didnt have to worry if it was going to overheat or use a tank a day. I go out of town often with my civic and even with 60000 it still gets almost 400 miles to the tank.
I love my honda civic, but
I love my honda civic, but Since I bought it new in 2002 i have haad a few problems with it. At my 15000 miles check they had to change the strut. At 29000 they had to put in a new altinator. My defogger does not work well and who knows what else will begin to happen after the warranty runs out in a few months I have 33000 miles on it so 3000 to go I hope it last nice car but not as well built as I thought
great on gas.........will save you money
great car............will same you money on gas
Suspension ON my 02 Civic LX
Within 5 months of buying my Civic I had to have both front struts replaced. I love my Civic but I hate the suspension. I have had my car in the shop at least 10 times in 2 years for the suspension! I love the look and the drive of the car! They could offer more color choices! It gets great gas mileage! Other tahn the suspension I have no problems with the car! Thay are great little cars!
Great car
I bought this car new 1/2002. It has been the best i have ever owned. Great performance even though only 115hp. Good in all weather and rarely gave me any issues. Recently traded it in at 175k miles as the A/C went and i didnt want to pay to fix it though it would have went for another 100k miles. Great MPG and reliability. Traded it in for a BMW 328i which is what i always wanted but i felt so bad trading it in.
Losing it's shine
I have had no major mechanical problems with this car in 21k miles in 20 months, but it is literally losing it's shine. The paint seems kind of dull, I always thought it was applied rather thinly. Way too easily chipped and the body panels are showing lots of dings from rocks and parking lot incidents. Doesn't take much. My biggest concern is the rattle from the dash. It used to be intermittant but is now a constant nuisance. My car and a friend's '03 both share the same rattle from the exhaust near the muffler.
Nice Ride
Yup, bought a Civic 2dr EX. Just like them all, had front struts replaced under warranty. No problem now. Solid ride, good interior room with large enough doors to get in and out (other car is 90 Miata so this one feels huge...) Hauls lots of stuff when I need it to. Good in the snow or with sunroof open in summer. Driver gets wet when it rains and windows are down a little (wish it had rain rails) Outstanding reliability. I think I'll have this one for a while...
I love my AMERICAN built Honda
While there are a few features of the Civic that still need refining overall I think youll find that this is a great car for the money. I didnt buy the car to get rid of it; I bought it because I knew it would be reliable and last a LONG TIME. Has it been reliable? At 67,000 miles performance is nothing less than flawless. My fuel economy is outstanding even with slight motor modification (40mpg hwy). I'm amazed at the lack of maintainance this thing requires - it just keeps going. The improvement suggestions below are significant but overly 'picky' when you consider the price of the car.
