I drove an automatic 02 focus hb for 10 years and LOVED it. I thought I was upgrading with the 2013. If you are used to a manual transmission this would probably be ok. It has the same shuddery jerky bumpy shift and backwards roll features that are on a standard transmission. I had it under 2 months and bought a different brand. It was that bad.

A car designed with contempt for its purchasers

I bought a 2013 Ford Focus as a new car eight years ago. Prior to purchasing, I had read some favorable reviews about the Focus and it seemed to be a good value. At first, I loved the vehicle but soon noticed that it shifted strangely which improved a little after a computer adjustment was done at the dealership. After owning the car for about a year or so, I started to learn that many other Focus owners were having transmission problems. I also discovered that it the transmission was sealed so the fluid could never be changed. This sounded absurd to me and certainly an indicator of planned obsolescence. As someone who normally keeps vehicles as long as possible, I realized then that buying the Focus was a terrible mistake. Since I no longer have a daily commute, I have put little mileage on the vehicle in the past four years. Due to limited driving, I managed to get eight years out of the vehicle. A few months ago, the clutch had to replaced at around 60K miles. Last month, the transmission control module failed and the car has been sitting at the shop due to the part being on back order. If it ever gets out of the shop, I plan to sell the vehicle although it really should be taken to the scrap yard since it is likely to have endless transmission issues. Like the exploding Ford Pinto back in the 1970's, the Focus was a car designed with contempt for its purchasers. I have absolutely zero confidence in the Ford Motor Company and will never consider buying one of their products again.

Pass the blame!

My 2013 Focus had the severe “shuttering” issue when I purchased it used in 2016. My salesman told me” it’s supposed to drive like that. Just drive it like it hot”!! I had it looked at on 3 separate occasions because I knew the shuttering wasn’t normal. Each time I I was told ( by the Ford dealership) that the transmission was running “normally “. Finally, in 2019, the transmission was recalled and Ford fixed the transmission and clutch. So now, a little over two years later, the shuttering is back. I’m told by a Ford dealership that the clutch needs replaced…again. But because it’s been over 24 months since the last replacement, I am responsible for the clutch replacement now. So essentially, their products can’t be expected to last more than 2 years!? My car has under 100k miles and isn’t driven rough so I don’t think it’s acceptable for Ford to expect me to pay $3k to replace their junk work/materials that were recalled???

MORE TROUBLE THAN WHAT IT'S WORTH

You will have to take this vehicle to the dealer for repairs numerous times. I have had to take my car in at least six times in less than two years. It has several recalls and needs several other recalls done to make it safe to drive. The transmission computer module reset had to be done on my car several times, Ford reset it twice and replaced it three times on my car. It is in again with transmission issues that was not part of the recall by they are replacing it free of charge. Parts for this vehicles have been on back order numerous times leaving me without a car for several days up to a week without a vehicle. I have several children and this car makes me afraid to transport them in the car. It will not accelerate when you need to at times. I have been getting onto the highway, pushing the gas pedal as far as it will go and it refuses to go. This car is a DANGER TO THE OWNERS AND ANYONE ON THE ROAD. There are very few good qualities about this car so it is not worth the hassle and risk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON THIS CAR!!!

Horrible purchase. I previously owned a 2001 Ford Escape and experienced no issues, so I figured I would stick with a Ford vehicle. I have a long commute and decided the 2013 Ford Focus would be a practical choice. 3 months after purchasing it, the heater needed to be replaced. Ford also decided to replace the clutches in the transmission as well since it was very noisy when accelerating and shifting gears. Vehicle was returned to me and the transmission problems still existed. As of right now, it's sitting at the dealership waiting to have the power steering rack replaced...I've owned this car for 18 months, and have driven 54000km....brutal.
