Used 2005 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
First Explorer
I am delighted with this SUV. I previously had a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 2WD and a Chevy Blazer 2WD. The V-8 power is great. It far surpasses both the Montero and the Blazer. The luggage area is bigger than all of the other SUVs we looked at. The Explorer has all of the features of a luxury car with the towing ability and 4x4 off-road features.
Solid Reliable Truck
We've had the truck since 06 with 20,000 miles we now have 100,000 and have only changed the fluids on it regularly. We had one issue with the heating dial on the dash, but otherwise has been one of the most reliable and solid SUV's we've ever owned including our Toyota and Nissan. We'll probably just keep it, put another 100k on it and pass it on to our kids!

Former Police Car Now Great Daily Driver
I bought my Explorer at a used car auction from the small town Sheriffs Deputy who was there to sell it. It had just over 150,000K miles on the odometer (which is the reason for its sell) and came complete with coffee stains on the front seats and holes drilled in the dash and inside top of front door jamb from where the police radio, computer terminal and red and blue lights had all been attached. Other than those changes it looked like any other car on the road as it had been an unmarked vehicle with an all white exterior. I got a good deal and bought the car intending to flip it for a profit. But after driving it around for awhile I realized I really liked it, so I kept it for myself. That was six years ago. It’s been my daily driver and it’s still going strong. I’ve replaced the brakes, and had some minor issues with a back hatch that likes to open on its own while I’m driving (it has a latch that doesn’t always lock completely). I’ve also had an issue with the headliner separating and dropping along the top of the windshield. There was also an issue with a sensor (not sure of the details) failure that coincided with the problem of a noisy transmission. Replacing the sensor stopped the noise. Other than that it’s been a nice, reliable vehicle to own.
Awesome!
I was pleasantly surprised when I test drove my Ford. It has everything I need or want in a vehicle - with the exception of good gas mileage. I can now take my whole family on road trips! I traded in my 2005 Mustang for the Explorer and I am very happy - they get the same gas mileage anyway - and I will be safer in the winter when I can take full advantage of the 4WD and there is sooo much more room!
