Unreliable
Purchased used from Ford dealership with 36,000 miles and the 7-year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, certified used by ford, whatever that means. This is a 2017 SE AWD 2.0 Ecoboost Within the first week of owning, noticed the coolant was low, seemed strange, thought maybe they just missed it on the servicing before I purchased, and I topped it off, few weeks later it was low again, then my wife was driving and it went into limp mode and shut down while she was driving because it was overheating due to low coolant, took it into ford, they just topped off the coolant. Few months later, starting getting misfires on cylinder 1 or 3, don't remember, kept happening, code indicated replace ignition coil, replaced the ignition coil, then within a few weeks it started again same cylinder, obviously, not the ignition coil. Took it to dealership again, they diagnosed as faulty ignition coil and replaced it again. It happened again, took it back, they went further this time, found coolant in the cylinder and said, engine needed to be replaced, wow, at 45,000 miles, it's still covered under original 60K warranty, so no costs except for the 2 times I went in before that and got new ignition coils. Year later, vapor canister went bad, at ~50,000 miles, $1,000 repair couple months later, panaramic moonroof stopped working roof leaks in multiple places Engine start/stop stopped working Year later at 73,000 miles, engine misfires start happening again, took it in for diagnosis, coolant in cylinders again, need to replace engine again. So over 5 years and 40,000 miles, I've gone through 2 engines, panoramic moonroof doesn't work, roof leaks in multiple places, fuel filler and evaporator canister had to be replaced which was a costly repair. Combined maintenance costs and loss of use, inconvenience of not having a vehicle for all the repairs even if they are covered under extended warranties is just not acceptable to me, I'll buy a Toyota next time, and I would recommend to all to avoid Ford.
Buy more gas than you expected!
Traded a Nissan Murano for a new 2017 Escape expecting better highway mileage. We were getting 25-26 mpg at highway speeds. The Escape goes through a gallon of gas every 22-23 miles! Very disappointed! The dealer told us that all the settings were correct and there was nothing that can be done. The gas tank is very small requiring more stops. We expected better. If it was not for the big discount, we would have purchased something else, probable next time. Having driven the car for 20,000 miles, we have found that the mileage has not improved at all!

Nice SUV for the price
A very nice SUV for the money . I am 6 ft 1 in. and the Escape is easy to get in and out of . Nice acceleration and low engine noise plus smooth shifting transmission . $17,000.00 for a lease car with 16,000 miles was a nice buy i thought . Everyone i know that owns a Ford Escape likes them . How it will hold up over the long haul remains to be seen . A lot of SUV for the money i thought . 7/19/21 and about 42,000 miles and still happy with the car. Only issue so far has been a pollution control that went bad. Covered under warranty so no big thing. 56,800 miles and still happy with the car. No major problems. Normal repairs such as brake pads and rotors plus tires.

After Driving the Ford Escape, I kept Looking
The cargo area is ok in size but the rear seats have no leg room. The front passenger seat sits too high and I felt like I was up against the headliner (I'm 5'11"). Other compact SUVs offer more features as standard than the Escape which drives the Escape's price up fast.

computer was bad
Well as much as I hate to say it I had a problem right off the bat. I bought a used certified pre owned from my local ford dealer. Car drove great in the test drive and really only Looked at the driving and handling not much else. I purchased the car the next day got home and everything felt fine this was mid day. I decided to go have a ride around the evening, when I went to do so I remember that I had never said up my bluetooth or the ford SYNC feature. As I proceeded to do so thats when the problems started. I went to touch the button for the settings and nothing happened figured ok maybe I did not press it hard enough pressed it again and nothing. After I pressed it several more time I finally realized something was wrong. The screen was not responding what so ever to my touch (full touch screen on this vehicle) and I had tried pressing multiple of the available buttons. I thought ok let me try some of the physical buttons maybe that will work, the problem was in those as well. No matter what I pressed nothing happened no response, finally I hear the sound from when you press a button go off about 50 times from all the pressing I had done. It was a horrible sound and then on the screen it attempted to bring up the setting or something could not really tell because it had fused multiple screens together words over other words and so on. Then the screen went dark and blank so i pressed the physical power button for it and nothing dead screen. I owned the vehicle for less then 5 hours. I shut the car off waited about 5 to 10 minutes and turned it back on, screen still dead. Turned it off and waited another 10 mins and screen came on and to my luck still not working correctly if I pressed the button once after a few mins the screen I was trying to go to would finally come up, but still very very broken. I had somewhere to be and decided ok let me try the navigation see how that it is and what a mistake that was. Took 15 minutes to get the address is because I had to wait for the button presses to respond then it took another 10 calculating the route, oh boy was I just ecstatic at this point. I started on my journey and everything seemed ok until I was coming up for the turn, now mind you I'm on the highway doing about 60. I looked at the nav it said 0.5 miles until the turn off well in about tht distance I looked at it again to make sure I was taking the right one and noticed it still said 0.5 miles to go. I blew past the turn off and it was frozen right in that same spot after about 5 miles it finally caught up. As I now watched the nav screen intently I noticed it was freezing every 20-30 seconds and skipping trying to catch up to where I actually was. That never stopped and I ended up shuting it off and using my phone. So all in all what a [non-permissible content removed], i bought this car with 25,000 miles on and within 5 hours the computer was broken. I have not been back to the dealership since this happened to me about 7 hours ago so I am unsure what the dealer will say to me, but first thing in the morning I will be there to tell them I want it fixed. So the two start review is because the car drives smooth as butter and the cabin is very nice and comfortable but I can not look past the fact that only 25,000 miles into this cars life its broken. So it gets two stars. Hope people actually see this who thing and make sure to check the computer before leaving.
